Both historical drama with good blend of lightness and serious/sombre scenes. Has a main girl and many visually pretty/handsome guys. Overall it gives the same vibe but different plot.

Jumong might be too long for Sungkyunkwan fans, but I think its worth for new fans of Sageuk from those who watched Sungkyunkwan to try watching a historical drama that was considered one of the best in the previous decade (2000s).
Here are the similarities:
=> Jumong is one of the few dramas BEFORE Sungkyunkwan Scandal was aired that shows a "romance" between two male characters
=> The same gender relationship in Jumong is more two-sided than the one in Sungkyunkwan
=> Like Sungkyunkwan, one of the two males who might be involved in a heartwarming relationship with another man is a hairy man while the other one is a flamboyant pretty man who likes wearing bright colored clothing (the flamboyant man in Jumong being more womanly than the one in Sungkyunkwan).
=> If you are in Sungkyunkwan for strong, determined, female characters, Jumong has them too.
=> Both dramas have some episodes dedicated to martial arts competitions. Examples including archery and swordsmanship (using sword sticks)
=> Both feature an evil male character close to the age of the male leads.

The main similarity is, that both dramas are about the life of a female student in an all-boys school.

Both have a girl dressing up as a guy to go school in around the Joeson period. Both contain two people falling in love blah blah.
Snow Lotus is a lot shorter and contains past as well as present, all about reincarnation and loving people and dreams.
Whereas Sungkyunkwan Scandal is more focused on the girl dressing up as a guy and going to school, entirely in the past.

Miki Ogawa yearned to live the life of a lovely girl and moved to the city from the countryside because of this. She holds a job at a fashion mail order company. Miki Ogawa also has a secret. She is transgender. Although she has a pretty woman's appearance, her sex is male. One day, Tadaomi Goto appears in front of Miki Ogawa. They graduated from the same high school. Tadaomi Goto is flustered by Miki's different appearance, but they happen to become roommates.

Both series are about crossdressing girls who get into schools (although it's in different eras). Seeing the romantic scenes between the crossdressing girl from ''That Whistling by Youth'' and a real guy that attends the same school really reminded me of the relationship between the main characters of ''Sunkyunkwan Scandal''. Both series have main characters that are plotting to find out certain secrets and both conceal their identity as a girl.

Both are historical dramas where main lead actress disguises herself as a man. SKKS concentrates on romance while Tempest concentrates on solving some sort of crimes.

Both are historical dramas with some of the best bromance I've seen in dramaland.

Its the same year (era). The King in this movie is Yi San. It's interesting to see other characters involves with the King during that time. Im not sure if these events are fictional tho

Both dramas have a historical setting and female leads disguised as men

SAME: FL is disguised as male to earn money for her family,
setting = prestigious government school for men where FL stays for stipend given and desire to learn
FL is initially hazed/picked on
FL is exceptional achiever among peers with a strong voice for equality across socioeconomic and gender divides
power struggles within school reflect power struggles occurring within country at large

DIFFER:
country of origin: SS = Korean, CAA = Chinese

overall plot development: SS - fairly unified and coherent
CAA - weaker reflection of plot with numerous inconsistencies: particularly FL life depends on disguise as male yet
FL shrieks whenever she sees shirtless men
FL keeps flowered coin purse even after being told it reveals that she is a woman
