extremely picky victim to the drama since 2011

faves/biases/whatever

  • fluke natouch: little king of thai bl. completely underrated. queer actor that owns the queer genre period. the pure realism and believability of his acting is something you don't find often in the genre, especially the thai bl industry... even outside of bl he's a huge talent in a little package and i love him
  • song kang: i mean. he's a gem. guy has never done a bad job in his life. won't watch some of his stuff just bc the project seems dumb (ie. love alarm) but he will always be my lil star~ his duality is unmatched argue w/ ya momma
  • gun atthaphan: i mean. his come-up was crazy, he shits on EVERYTHING he works on, acting level 10000000 absolutely steals everything he's ever been a part of, he's never heard of the term 'leaving crumbs'
  • park jihoon: new addition but holy shit i watched weak hero class and was forever changed. this man can A C T like.... you got a crying park jihoon on screen? guaranteed you got a crying andie watching. holy shit he is so so so good

preferences

  • bl: but a very specific kind. i don't typically go for cutesy stories if the plots are cliche/stupid/predictable, nor the typical cringey writing. also really particular on camerawork. i love an INTERESTING plot with good character development/study, put a couple boys in love (that have actual chemistry for the love of god please i beg i don't care how attractive they are you gotta stop casting these straight boys where you can read all over their faces that they don't wanna be kissing another boy and are doing this as a career stepping stone) and i'll eat it up xoxo got into the bl dramas through thai bls, but the japanese are the ones really eating it up rn tbh

(some faves: until we meet again, i told sunset about you, not me, jack o'frost)

  • dark: gimme the hard-to-watch shit! gimme the shit that doesn't shy away from the gritty real world stuff!! i want the heavy themes and dark topics with characters i care about!!! something that'll stick with me after watching and forces me to watch something light and cute and sweet after... gimme gimme gimme

(some faves: a christmas carol, weak hero class, daughters, himizu, silenced)

  • psychological thrillers: OOOH this is that good shit... i want something that'll get me thinking and nervous and on the edge of my seat mentally and have my little pea brain THINKIN' (bonus points for well-placed plot twists that make sense and are alluded to prior to the reveal)

          (some faves: parasite)

  • horror/horror thrillers: i'm not talking found-footage or jump-scares (i actually have a strong preferences against tropes like those), i'm talking scary, action-packed, fast-paced, potentially (but not necessarily) supernatural situations that incorporate real-world horrors into the subtext YES i'm sat

(some faves: battle royale, sweet home, train to busan)

  • platonic bonds: sister bonds, brother bonds, father/mother-child bonds, friend-bonds, etc etc... man. man. the chokehold these have on me is truly embarrassing. these have the capability of either making my heart grow twelve sizes or completely destroying me (the best ones do both!!!)

(some faves: navillera, move to heaven)

  • character study: my bread and butter. my life-force. my everything. the main thing that will get points from me is how attached i get to the characters, how they grow and/or develop through the story, their relationships with each other. i need three things in life: oxygen, food, and good characters

            (some faves: u/c)

  • sweet fluff: specifically tooth-rotting fluff combined with good writing and characters i get attached to ~ this is the perfect palate cleanser for many of my other preferences, but no less loved when done well!! i'm actually even more picky with this genre than probably anything else, because there's a fine line (for me) between adorable, sweet storylines/characters with high watchability, and corniness, but when it's done well, i LOVEEE it

(some faves: cherry magic!, our dining table)

what i won't watch

  • strictly-het romance: i'm talking a drama or movie that is marketed mainly as a het romance (not something that happens to have some het romance but focuses mostly on plot and/or characters). i'm just not interested tbh they're typically insanely predictable and i don't love 'em that's just my opinion~
  • cringey writing: not even as a guilty pleasure... takes me right out of it. been getting even more jaded about it as i continue watching bl's, as the genre is often a big offender (most popular thai bl's i'm looking at you!!!)
  • goofy sound effects: again, thai bl's. i'm looking at you...... maybe it's a cultural thing idk but i don't need a joke punctuated by a BOINGO sound effect or a dog reference suddenly accented by a barking soundbite. leave me alone let me watch something without ripping me out of it like that like idk what gets me so mad about it but i've stopped watching so many bl's bc of this jdksladjkal
  • 'those' bl tropes: the moment i see anything that looks like forced/coerced/unconscious/drunk/dub-con/non-con sexual shit happen and the characters don't consider it a massive fucking red flag, it's dropped. it's 2024 in what world is this still something  being written and considered desirable. same goes for creepy, borderline-abusive nonsense (i.e. controlling behavior, mean behavior disguised as something 'sexy' or 'appealing' in a significant other, etc) also secretly-gay-homophobes... that shit is so played out and corny oml
  • anything with a shitty cast-member: you want me to watch a show where one of the leads have made incredibly homophobic and/or transphobic remarks and then watch them kiss someone of the same gender so they can advance their career? i would sooner pour bleach in my eyes thank you ~ going straight to the DNW list, or being dropped. no chance :) same goes for misogynist cast members. all that kinda stuff, i'm not the type to "separate the artist from the art", ain't no way i'm supporting you lol (plus i won't be able to stop thinking about it the whole time i watch)
  • cliche plots: i'm big on synopses. if the plot seems predictable or like something i've seen before, i'm very very likely just not gonna watch. nothing against the cast or crew, i just want something that will keep me engaged, and this kinda thing wouldn't. i can totally see why some people might like this, especially maybe as a comfort thing, but it's just not for me!
  • any drama that hasn't caught my attention by ep 3: i just don't have the time nor patience!! got a watchlist too big full of interesting projects and life is too short to watch entire shitty shows right?? idk i'm a picky little shit and some of the stuff on my dropped list gets me into trouble sometimes but the heart wants what it wants and dislikes what it dislikes!!!!
