Favorite K-Dramas

This is a list of my personal favorites in the K-Drama genre. This list does not include shows I haven’t seen yet and shows that I have watched but wouldn’t consider as favorites. The list might still change over time as I watch new dramas or new releases. The list is sorted by favorite to least favorite. Some shows might be on the list even though I gave them a lower  rating than others that aren’t, because I prefer the cinematography of those over some of the others or because they are just comfort dramas. This list is a mix of queer centric storylines and non queer centric storylines, it is just generally sorted be how much I like these shows no matter the main couple

My absolute favorite show, I read the webtoon and I love what the show did with the backstory and giving the characters more depth. Though I would recommend watching the first season first and then reading the webtoon, because eventhough they changed a lot, the general plot of the backstory stays the same and knowing where the first season goes would probably take a lot of the emotion from watching it. The characters are amazing and the cinematography and pacing are stand out.

This one is not for the faint of heart, it‘s absolutely disturbing and terrifying how realistically human behavior is portrayed. This show is not supposed to be entertainment and I think a lot of people started it expecting it to be, which probably led to the number of negative reviews. This is a social commentary at it’s finest.

  • Si bien chez soi

    3. Si bien chez soi

    Korean Drama - 2020, 10 episodes

I actually have no clue why this is so high on my favorites. I‘ve watched better shows, shows that are still ranked lower on this list and I don’t know why, but this one took my heart.

  • Si bien chez soi 2

    4. Si bien chez soi 2

    Korean Drama - 2023, 8 episodes

Season 2 received a lot of negative reviews an I get why when you look at the pacing and the cinematography, but all in all the messages and characters were really great personally. Especially now when I look back at what this season actually accomplished regarding developing the storyline and giving it a deeper meaning.

This Drama managed to make me cry every single episode and it beautifully depicts the different aspects of mental health and trauma.

Beautiful cinematography and thought through characters. I just absolutely love this one.

This was just a pure comfort show for me, it had me laughing, smiling and crying from sadness and happiness. I really love this one, even though objectively it’s definitely not perfect

    Korean Drama - 2023, 4 episodes

    9.5

The ending received a lot of negative reviews, though I have to say, that personally I thought the ending was perfect and exactly what the show needed to portray the message they‘ve been trying to convey since the first episode of part 1. The only problem I have is with episodes 7-9, I did not like the direction they took there, but the last episode saved part 2 for me. This is the reason I couldn’t give it 10 stars but it is still in my favorites

  • Strange Lawyer Woo Young Woo

    15. Strange Lawyer Woo Young Woo

    Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes

    9.0

This drama manages to be lighthearted, cute and deep at the same time. I often prefer darker dramas over the cute and lighthearted ones, but this one managed to still have a deep meaning through all the fluff.

  • Black Night

    16. Black Night

    Korean Drama - 2023, 6 episodes

Though this drama didn’t have any perceptible deeper meaning or memorable storyline, it was a really fun watch. This drama accomplished what a lot of sci-fi movies over the last years didn’t accomplished.
