"Delightfully Deceitful" Director Reveals Casting Behind Story about Chun Woo Hee and Kim Dong Wook

On the 11th, the production team of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama Delightfully Deceitful (written by Han Woo Joo and directed by Lee Soo Hyun) shared behind-the-scenes stories about the casting.

Director Lee Soo Hyun provided a clear response regarding Chun Woo Hee's portrayal of the character Lee Ro Um, who possesses soulful swindling skills and versatile transformation abilities. He stated, "No one could imagine anyone other than Chun Woo Hee as Lee Ro Um. That's the reason for her casting." He further explained that the character of Lee Ro Um needs to change appearance depending on the target of the swindle, not only through costumes, hair, and makeup but also through dialogue tone, pronunciation, intonation, and facial expressions. Director Lee Soo Hyun expressed his excitement about witnessing Chun Woo Hee flawlessly embodying all these aspects and transforming into Lee Ro Um, finding it exhilarating.

Furthermore, Director Lee Soo Hyun praised Chun Woo Hee, stating, "She always thoroughly prepares, thinks deeply, and wholeheartedly dedicates herself to achieving excellent results."

Regarding Kim Dong Wook, who reunited with Director Lee Soo Hyun after the drama 'Find Me in Your Memory,' Lee Soo Hyun commented, "Kim Dong Wook has exceptional skills in analyzing the script, and that's why I think his acting is truly flawless down to the smallest details."

According to the director, Kim Dong Wook was the ideal casting choice for the character Han Moo Young, emphasizing that "Han Moo Young's role is particularly complex and challenging. He suffers from a relatively unfamiliar condition called 'hyper-empathy syndrome,' it was crucial to design his character to avoid confusing or unconvincing behavior. Among the actors considered, Kim Dong Wook was the only one who could express Han Moo Young with such meticulous design."

Director Lee Soo Hyun explained, "Without Kim Dong Wook's detailed portrayal, the story and emotions of Han Moo Young would not have been effectively conveyed."

Additionally, Director Lee Soo Hyun revealed an interesting aspect of the actors' personalities. He mentioned that Chun Woo Hee and Kim Dong Wook share more similarities with each other's characters than their respective roles. Chun Woo Hee is emotionally sensitive and displays explosive emotions at the moment, while Kim Dong Wook approaches his characters with rationality, meticulous analysis, and design. Director Lee Soo Hyun humorously added that sometimes it feels easier to playfully understand each other's characters.
