Face à lui, Khun Yai (Bright Rapheephong Thapsuwan).

A Romantic Tale That Gave Birth To A Masterpiece.

I have a lot of things that I want to say about this phenomenal show, but I’ll try my best to make it as concise and spoiler-free as possible.

The majestic cinematography is one of the strongest points in the series, be it in the modern day or the 1927 era. The filter or the soft bokeh effect that they put in the 1927 era gave the show an ethereal feel as if we were watching a movie set in a dreamworld, which in my opinion is a smart decision since it is told mostly from Jom’s perspective, cause literally, everyone in that time is already a ghost in the present day except Jom. It’s like putting the character’s lenses through our screen. This alone is already a brilliant way of visual storytelling!

The characters are all interesting and well-written. The acting? Outstanding! Nonkul and Bright did an astonishing job as Jom and Yai. In the first episode, we can already see Nonkul’s spectacular acting chops! His eyes alone speak of those devastating emotions that he is experiencing. In the succeeding episodes, you can feel those tantalizing romantic shivers that he feels every time Yai speaks poetry of his love to him. I would not be surprised if he wins an award for his performance as Jom. Bright’s big moments were in the later part of the story. But what amazes me is his versatility in portraying different versions of Yai. The non-verbal and verbal that he did is distinct from the other versions of the character. He did his homework excellently.

I also have to commend the supporting actors for a splendid performance! It’s great that the supporting cast had their own moments and was not left behind by the amazing leads. And did I mention that aside from the main gay couple, we also have a lesbian and straight couple? Yes, this series shows all kinds of love.

The series holds no bars in showing the ruthless treatment of the servants and women in that period. Its fearless portrayal of what happened in the past makes me realize that the series that I’m watching is a bold, unfiltered, and fiercely beautiful work of art. Despite that, it also shows that the abused and the oppressed CAN claim their power and stand up for themselves! Which makes it one of the most powerful scenes in the show.

The music and original soundtrack are magical. For some, it might not be radio-friendly, but the way the music was arranged fits the drama perfectly! Even the lyrics of the four songs featured in the show voiced the perspective and emotions of our main leads. Each note and instrument was meticulously placed to fit the scenes of the drama.

The show as a whole is heartfelt and hopeful. Especially the last few episodes which are excruciatingly beautiful, it made me dehydrated from wailing. Each second that goes by is a slow agony of the inevitable separation. The last scene makes some people confused, unless you read the novel, you will understand it. But I think it was left that way in the series to open the possibility of a 2nd Season, after all, there is so much more to tell.

The love story of Yai and Jom can be considered a one-of-a-kind timeless, classic, romantic tale that gave birth to a masterpiece.

It's Not For Everyone But Who Cares?

This review is coming from someone who previously worked in the film industry. I have plenty of things to say but I’ll make it brief and neutral as possible, without throwing industry jargons so everyone will understand.

Cinematography, lights, editing, and music, are all remarkable. It is obvious that the drama has sumptuous amount of budget allotted in the production. The blurry technique they did in the shots is clever, it’s as if we are watching a historic event right in front of us. The consistency use of old Thai language in the show is makes me feel that we are indeed in that period.

Though it is already predictable that Jom will eventually leave that period and return to the present day, it didn’t stop me from watching. As someone who loves heavy drama, I like that they slowly burn and agonized the viewers of the impending doom of their relationship. Yes, their romance is fluffy, and alluring as if I’m watching a classic love story, but it is also depressing to think that at the end of everything, they will be separated. The discomfort of the impending doom is felt throughout the show and it makes the overall tone of the drama serious and melancholic.

When Jom was literally dispersing into the thin air, I have to commend the visual FX, the sorrowful emotions of the separation transcends through the screen. And Yai’s mourning aftermath really solidifies the heart wrenching drama that I’m looking for.
The series proves that magic happens when you cast actors who know how to act in the exemplary level. The eye-works of Nonkul and Bright showcases that they are indeed great actors and gave justice to their roles. I read online that few people cringe with their acting and I don’t understand why. But who cares? As someone who worked in film industry, I would say that they deserve an acting award in their performance.

My only concern was the ending as it left us with too many unanswered questions. It is confusing for people who didn’t read the novel. ((THIS PART IS SPOILER)) I have to check online the explanation for me to understand that it is the present day incarnation of Yai that Jom meets in the old house, he's not Jom's imagination and definitely not a ghost. The reunion is sweet, but I hope they spend at least a minute to explain what is happening. It appears that they are planning to adapt the second part of the novel for the second season, but the production company is uncertain about it due to budget constrains that’s why they fast-track the last scene similar to the end of the second novel.

Regardless, the show is excellent in all levels. As much as I’m looking forward in seeing a second season, I won’t expect that it will happen anytime soon. As I’ve said this was an expensive show to begin with. It also doesn't have those cringe product placement that we usually see in Thai series so I have no idea where they will get money in funding the sequel.

Do I recommend watching the drama? ABSOLUTELY YES! Rewatch Value I have to give 10/10 especially it is the type of heavy romantic drama that I prefer.

A great memory with a scent of frangipani

The story is really interesting, it was so sweet, so beautiful and so emotional. Even though I might try to find some loopholes or negative things..I'm blind lol because that was so perfectly done. The slow paced was not that slow paced to me, it's like following them with each scenes and get along with what they want to convey. I was invested in this serie and these characters. I really appreciated to wait each week to watch a new episode but I feel like I was waiting for so long lol
I feel like we have not only the romance part but also, the mystery and other interesting subjects that have brought up in this and that's why, it's worth to watch it.

I also really liked the colors / lightening, the props, the atmosphere of the serie. It has a really beautiful cinematography, so pleasing to watch. Even when I'm taking screenshot, it's like a painting (I'm a bit exagerating but still, I'm impressed by the quality of the scenes and the landscape). Nice clothes as well and they did a great job to convince us, we have travel time back in the 1920s! Even the editing part was nice as well.

Characters are so well written, even the female characters (especially Ueung Phueng, Fong Kaew and Mei) and I even liked the side characters. It's a breath of fresh air and I'm so proud that they didn't forget or left them out but the three outshine too in my opinion.

Every actors have brought their characters alive, they really did an excellent job to portray their role!
I'm also impressed by the main leads played by Nonkul and Bright, it's their first BL and I must say, they nailed it, that's unbelievable but it says it all that they are indeed such amazing actors. I love how they were so dedicated to their characters.

Lastly, I want to mention the original soundstracks and even the instrumental, really, really beautiful to listen and I even felt so nostalgic about it. It also match the scenes very well.

To me, this is seriously the best serie of this year but looking back, it might be also a hit if it was released a few years ago. Even time flies, it's still the best or atleast one of the best that I've watched).

I want to thank everyone who was behind this project (Director, production team, actors..) because this is one of my greatest memory.

Best BL ever!

I Feel You Linger in the Air is the best bl I've ever watched. Everything from the plot to acting to music is A++. The lanthom ost always makes me cry and the jomkwan ost is so sweet.
I think this show has the best acting I've seen in a BL. I knew Nonkul was good actor already but was skeptical about Bright. Now Bright Rapheephong has become one of my all time favs. His microexpressions are so good and so believable as a 20 year old boy living in the 1920s.
I feel like this show would get more popular if it aired at a different time. Most people were too invested in only friends and dangerous romance airing around the same time. Could also be because of Youku being the streaming platform. For interfans (other than the US) the series is available for free on youtube - Uncut and TV version. Please go make this series more popular so that we can get a season 2 TT

A Series With Purpose

It's not just a series made to show a show, it's a series with purpose. And that purpose is to show the truth of the life of the oppressed during the 1920's. The oppressed mainly women, gays, lesbians, and even the slaves were given the proper spotlight to highlight their lives and their struggles, which I think makes this series standout.

I Feel You Linger In The Air has an intense plot full of mystery and a slow-burn romance. It is fearless on showing everything that is beautiful and even the ugly. It is safe to say that this series revealed the soul of the characters.

Special mention to Bright and Nonkul for their masterclass level performance as Yai and Jom. Truly they study and embody their characters. Their outstanding chemistry transcends the screen which makes the viewers feel their eternal love for each other, truly we feel the love that lingers in the air and it will last for years. Hoping for a second season.

BL To Beat

Gorgeous scenery and cinematography. Excellent scriptwriting. Acting is outstanding! Nonkul being a season actor is the perfect actor for Jom. Bright is great revelation here! He acts really well too. All the characters get their proper time to develop their story. No one was left behind. The characters are even fleshed out in all it's splendor as if I'm watching real people. My only concern is that I hope we got to see the backstory of the two troublemakers, the foreign master and Dech. It would be nice to see where they came from and the reason of their motive aside from just being greedy. Nonetheless, the series is amazing.

I enjoyed how they show the truth about politics, society, and prejudice during that time. The blunt and unfiltered portrayals gave this piece of art a disturbing feeling but in a good way that will make you question your beliefs and morals.

Every detail and every scene was carefully shot as if I'm watching a high-quality movie every single episode. I'm not sure why some people are salty and tries looking for faults in this show. Frankly speaking, with the caliber of this series, I keep on questioning myself if I'm really watching a BL drama. This is a freakin' masterpiece people!

Without any bias I can say that "I Feel You Linger In The Air" is the BL to beat. THIS IS A MUST WATCH!

historical masterpiece

Overall: I applaud the writers for giving us this series. I read the book but reviewed the series on its own merits. The cut version is 45 minutes and uncut episodes were over an hour. Aired on YouKu app, GagaOOLala (uncut), YYDS YT channel https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoqdmwJPCU35AqHWHKLdr5RWqQhBiVl61 (depending on your country) Check out these 2 official movie cuts which center on Yai & Jom
Part 1 of Jom & Yai’s Epic Love Story https://youtu.be/Tt5-Wa5z3RE
Part 2 of Jom & Yai’s Epic Love Story https://youtu.be/vT-HG57Nt7w

Content Warnings: (there were major content warnings that I put under a spoiler)

What I Liked
- sweet moments and excellent chemistry
- finally we had well written female characters instead of cliche stereotypes, these women acted/felt/reacted how real women would
- strong messages without being corny, they showed the unfairness of wealth disparities, they addressed something that happened in episode 3 as traumatic and not romantic, we almost never see this between a married couple in fiction though it sadly happens in real life and then they showed the trauma of what can result from that circumstance
- unique premise
- that Jom had agency
- intimate scenes were done extremely well
- production value

Room For Improvement
- Jom was a bit frustrating in the first half though he really went thru a lot, I blame the editing for unnecessary long pauses
- the ending was extremely rushed and not really clear of what exactly happened, they could have condensed some of the side plots/scenes in the first half of the series to more fully show the ending
- that mustache was awful and not needed in ep 1
- Jom should have said quietly what the year was when he learned who that ruler was as international fans don't know the date (but it's in the series summary)

Lovely Time Travel Love Story

I'm not going to say anything differently than what has already been said, but of course, I will say something anyway. I Feel You Linger in The Air was a beautiful time-traveling love story with the addition of the harsh lives of women and gay people, told through a spectacular lens and with such deep-rooted characters and their dynamics. I would say that this is the best historical Thai BL I've ever seen, but it also acts as my first historical Thai BL, so it's automatically the best.

Let's Dive In.

I Feel You Linger in The Air tells the budding romance of Jom and Yai, a man from the future who inevitably falls for a man from the past. Furthermore, we also get to see the lives of Yai's family, friends, and servants who all play a passionate role in the changing of the past and the implications it will have on the future.

I'll start by saying this: I liked the plot/story a lot more than I liked the romance. Now hear me out, nothing was inherently wrong with the romance (they were super cute, super domestic, and everything that came out of Yai's mouth was just heart-wrenchingly beautiful), but the complexity of the story overall was much more entertaining for me. I think it's because I love slow-burns and while this wasn't necessarily fast, it felt like they got together pretty quickly. Yes, they don't get together until about halfway through the series, but by then, it feels like they rushed them to get together. It was building perfectly until, bam, Yai asked him to be his lover. Super romantic, but not 100 percent believable just yet, especially when Yai says things like "I'll love you forever" and they just got together. If anything, I would've liked them to wait longer, maybe after Yai's engagement ceremony when he realized he was to be wed to Busabong (I think that's how you spell it, she's not listed on MDL). When he felt that urgency and that yearning to be with Jom. Still, regardless, I liked the chemistry and they did well when their intimate scenes so I'm not all that pressed.

But now onto this spectacular story. One thing I hate about time travel is when the character is thrown into the future or past and immediately someone from that time is telling them what year it is, who they are, and what they are to the main character. But in IFYLITA, Jom was truly thrown into the 1900s and didn't figure out what time and year it was until he did some exploring on his own and found out -- because nobody in the 1900s thinks that someone of his age wouldn't be sure of what's going on. It was perfect. Also just the little details: The currency being different, the way they dressed, their everyday activities, the food they ate, the way they spoke, the accuracy of how women and LGBT+ people were treated, surprise that Jom was able to speak English, when Jom said more modern terms like cool or yo, the creation of Bangkok having not happened yet. It's obvious that they took their time with the structure and details of this story and it's very much appreciated.

Now usually I could care less about the lives of the side characters, but I was almost a little more interested in their story than the main couple. Like UeangPhueng and Meay for example -- loved them for real. Same with Fong Kaew and her trying to find out what happened and getting Mr. Robert to finally get arrested for his actions. Same with James and Ming whose stories weren't as developed, but I just loved seeing them on my screen. It's very rare when I'm interested in everything going on in a BL series excluding the actual BL couple.

The only part I'm having trouble figuring out is when Jom makes his way back to the present. So Yai shows up; does that mean Yai was reincarnated? Put into a bottle to be released once Jom comes back? Is Jom just seeing things? Seeing a ghost? Is Yai going to go through the same thing that Jom did, just this time in the present? And after the credits, we see the other Yai who was a lot more stern and obviously from a different period -- If there's to be a second season, will Jom be falling for another Yai? Will there be two Jom's? So many questions, I hope eventually these get answered.

Ratings:

Story: 9/10 - Magnificent. I'll only not give it another star because it is a little bit open-ended and the first episode was a tad bit slow. But overall, the story was perfect. These were hour-long episodes and to my surprise, I didn't once check to see how far along we were, the story is just that good that it keeps you captivated throughout.

Acting: 9/10 - Bravo! Everyone did such a good job. Jom and Yai could cry when need be, and the actors just did so perfectly at portraying their characters. I loved Nonkul's (Jom) acting the best and definitely Guide's (Ming) next.

Music: 6.5/10 - I paid attention to it a little bit, but what I heard was good, however, there were definitely times when the music was too loud and made it hard to hear the characters talking.

Recommendation Value: 8/10 - Overall, such a good series. But it is long, even when you're not thinking about its longevity, but it still took me about two weeks to finish, so probably not the BL to watch if you just aren't patient and don't want to sit through the hour-long episodes. I will say that I almost didn't watch this because of the very slow pace of the first episode, but trust me, it gets so much better after that. I highly recommend it for the story alone -- so much time has gone into this and it's worthwhile for sure.
