If you like a plot that expands and progresses and escalates, S02 is for you...

...but if you're watching this because you just wanted to see the main actor on screen 98% of the time being a boss, or just because you want to fangirl/boy over the attractive actors you liked in S01, you should tap out.
As someone who has no particular affinity to anyone in this show (except for Lee Si young because the actress is amazing and so is her character), as I usually do, I wanna' cover the good, bad and ugly of this season's offering;

THE GOOD:
- High action and developing horror and drama right out the gate, and it stayed that way for at least 80% of the season, no holds barred, humanity at their best and worse, chaos and entropy and monsters abound. S01 covered the basics, which, great, it let us get attached to the respective characters as one must in order to continue watching something, but would I want to watch a whole other season of the same characters doing the same shit? No thank you. S02 brought the broader scale of shit hitting the fan and escalating, we saw the reality of a dystopian world crawling with monsters really impact everyone. The fact that so many people are complaining about S02 baffles me. To viewers griping about deaths of MC's; come on! People would DIE, whether they are popular, good, bad, kids, attractive or ugly. So many shows from other countries based in violent, supernatural horror worlds, cling to their full set of MC's (*coughs* The Walking Dead) to the point where it's eye rolling. I don't want ALL the main characters to survive and be besties, that's BS, because it wouldn't happen that way. Sweet Home was merciless on this front, I loved it (PS: I would have been super mad if Yi Kyung died tbh but I would've gotten over it and still watched S03)
- The story unfolded on a bigger scale, which gripped my interest immediately. They did a good job of showing the peak of escalation and loss the beginning and then the time skip was just long enough to show the bare minimum of what was salvageable, and how unstable it all was.
- They introduced many new characters living in the stadium, most of which I assume will come in handy in S03 for deaths and monsterization. Useful trick to stop killing off your entire main cast in your final seasons. They also set up old characters and some new characters to really shake things up in S03 with gruesome comebacks and they highlighted them well too.
- The acting is ON POINT for everyone. Seriously, everyone brought their A game.
- Lots of foreshadowing, probably the groundwork for S03 plot twists.
- The clever broadness of monster capabilities being based on their desires and hates also really leaves a lot to be explored.
- Hyun Su going dark under his monster because of pain is the PERFECT precursor to when he breaks out of that lapse. I am keen to see him take back control and throw down.

THE BAD:
- The thirstiness of the female characters in Asian shows. I don't think this is a Sweet Home problem, I'm not sure if it's a culture thing, but characters like the chief's daughter and that loopy chick with the old man, that borderline stalker sexual harassment vibe they give off is ick, I could really do without that. What's wrong with them just being flirtatious instead of obsessed with the singlemindedness of a small brained creature in need of love and marriage? Hard no.
- I think the writers are trying to make Eun Yoo likeable, which, PFFFFFT ????? no. just no. They already made her the most dislikeable wench possible in S01, uh, what do they think changed? Nothing, she could have died in S01 and I would have forgotten her, like I forgot her brother.
- The monster CGI is...passable-ish. But I wasn't expecting it to blow my mind so it's whatever.
- The survivors looked pretty healthy despite living underground and eating minimal rations and barely going out (if at all for some of them). So that was a ball dropped, but it was small ball.

The UGLY:
- If S03 involves any romance, it's gonna be a gross joke. There is no reason for it and zero sexual chemistry with literally anyone in the show so far. Even Uen Yoo and the nice soldier guy don't bring those vibes enough for it to come to fruition. So, that would be ugly. I hope they skip right over that shit idea. I want nothing less than to see any of these characters kiss or touch each other, ever. Not only because it's unnecessary story wise, but also because everything is unhygienic and filthy and it would be high key disgusting to see any physical sexual contact of even the barest kind when I could barely stop thinking of how badly everyone must stink in every way.

THE HIGHLIGHTS
None in particular, the show had too many moving parts for any big, standalone moments, but I'd say the acting was for sure a really great thing for this season.

Overall, I enjoyed it just as much as S01, I have no complaints and I am keen for S03.

DIFFERENT BUT GOOD NONETHELESS

There was an evident difference in the latest season, from the cinematography, music, cgi/vfx and overall direction- and in my opinion thats what made season one so original and just so fun to watch. From the first episode of season 2, it just felt like watching a whole other drama - the charm of the first season wasn't entirely there. S1 had amazing cinematography and OST that added the hype and uniqueness to the project. The monsters were actual PEOPLE in suits and makeup and then altered with vfx whilst S2 was mainly cgi. Not to be dramatic but it felt like the art was gone lol. Season 2 just reminded me of a typical
military action thriller...

The second instalment seemed to go toward a different narrative as we're are no longer in the residential building, we get to meet new characters, some interesting and some... not so much. The crazy doctor and the little girl were the most compelling to the storyline and hopefully we will see more of them in the next season. We see a lot of military involvement and though they add a great perspective to this pandemic, it just got boring having them on my screen most of the time. There were also too many throwaway characters which i personally didn't care for, and instead wished they gave some more screen time to Hyun su (you know, the main character??) It would've been interesting to see his connection with the little girl and his overall struggle to survive in the world as monster who had very human emotions.

The the last few episode is where it seemed to pick up, i had no idea what was going on.. there's people that made into monsters is that how this pandemic started? What was the crazy doctors role in this?? There were a lot of unanswered questions which made me very excited for the S3

The original cast done amazing reprising their role and i cant wait to see more of them (as MAIN character hopefully)

ALSO the amount of bare booty's i've seen in episode 2.... i was flabbergasted.

Kinda Weak Season, but still Good

I watched it without much expectation. Since the director really wants to continue this series even though there hasn't been a sequel for the manhwa in years. This Season 2 and the upcoming Season 3 are going on their own path, even though the writers aren't involved going forward, i still have a little bit of hope since the director said he consulted with them, so he was told of the general idea with where the story is going and just played around with it.

The story picks up right away where season 1 left off and already, it's a jam-packed action but i noticed the CGI is still the same as Season 1 if not, sometimes worse than last season, but it is well done in scenes where Song Kang and Sang Wook are involved.

Back to the story... i was kinda confused at first because things started escalating but good thing they explained it as we move forward. The scale of the story has now expanded because our characters are now out in the wider world, so many characters got added to the story and because of that they really had to compromise with the screentime. I guess it's really tight in that aspect, so there's a different shift of focus in the characters in this season and then they killed most of the characters that we followed during s1 and it's kinda boring at times when you have to care for these new characters in the story and there's a lot of them as well and most of them died off really quick, but i couldn't care less since there wasn't much for me to care about, some of them are really well done, though they haven't really contributed that much to the story yet. This season was just a setup for what's probably gonna happen in s3 i guess... because nothing really much happened, but we're still given enough information about what's happening in the world of Sweet Home, but not enough for it to move forward.

Them killing off most of the characters from s1 was kinda useless to me because the characters they've added/replaced have similar personalities to the characters from s1, so what's the point?? and their deaths didn't even leave much impact on the mains except for one, but i'm not gonna tell. Speaking of mains, I do see some crumbs of romance build up that's going on here, though i doubt they would expand on it in the next season since it's not the main point of the story, but i would love to see if they would do it since it's a nice heart fluttering side plot to have in a world that's fucked up and full of monsters.

The acting as always is impeccable there is nothing much to tell, what do you want me to say? It's good, as koreans always do

Now this part is for those who've read 'Shotgun Boy' which is the prequel for Sweet Home, so it's gonna be spoilers. As someone who has read it, after watching this, I think there's no hope of adaptation for that manhwa in the future anymore. It's just my theory though because i noticed they took some aspects from 'Shotgun Boy' and added them here, the very obvious one is the girl who can turn anyone into a monster and then you have the lab as well, but props to them because the way they integrated it here was so smooth. If they ever adapt that manhwa, i doubt you'd be able to add much to the story, the only thing you're gonna bring to the table are more characters and another mc which is gonna put off some viewers.

Overall, this season was kinda weak for me and kinda fast paced, since there's a lot to unpack, plus you have a lot of new characters as well, but it's still good. Song Kang is sooo hot in here, like he got buffed, ugh!! DADDY?! Go Min Si is pretty as always and because of the new main that got introduced here, plus his character dynamic with her, i can kinda predict who's Go Min Si's next romance drama partner, they have a good chemistry xD

like a group project being put together just before the deadline

the first season was great, perhaps they kept repeating that one imagine dragons song every 5 minutes but at least it had a plot.

it's insane how it went downhill after the success of the first season. characters dying left and right, introducing new ones but made no effort to make the audience care for them.

this season feels like a filler, only killing characters for shock value and keep things interesting. and speaking of shock value, that fucking baby fetus monster human hybrid?????? it made want to punch into the screen and kill myself.

but I'm not gonna lie, that one scene at the end between (evil?) hyunsu and eunyu had me at the edge of my seat, more so that the rest of the season.

Disappointed

this was one of the most boring season I’ve ever watched, I’m so disappointed.
s1 had such a unique vibe, the characters all brought something to the show they were all very interesting. whereas in s2 they added pointless characters that we could’ve cared less.
half of the og charcters either died or got forgotten. the main character was gone for like half of the season, same with sangwook (the gangster), but at least he is still alive sort of ig and yikyeong who came back with a grown kid.
some charcters looked also so much alike, like the priest and sang wook. it showed how desperate the writers were to get us attached to the new ones.
the monsters in s1 used to be individual, and in s2 they all look alike?? the monsters attacked in groups and were literal clones. you transform yourself from desires/fears so why are they the exact same?? this took the point of the show away.
the storyline was as boring as the characters. eunyu walking around for 3 episodes trying to find her brother was pointless. they could’ve made it so much interesting.
same with chief ji, we never knew what she was hiding and why she was acting like that.
thankfully the ending looked more promising for a better season.

Bad but entertaining i guess

I read this webtoon when it first came out and it really sucks that they made a mess of a story so creative.

they took a lot of liberties in season one and it just created many inconsistencies as the story progress to season 2. To the point it gets ridiculous.

I’ll start with the whole premise of the story is that people who concert into monsters were suppose to be their deepest desires. But i guess they didn’t have enough time in all these 3 years and instead they just went on random now instead of specific things we get all these metal monsters that look like they came straight out of Transformers other as spiders and dinosaurs and just random things out of safari etc. otterly ridiculous. Depending on what i guess their jib was they created the monster based on that. Special effects weren’t as good as season 1.

A lot of of people are saying “its world building” but it is too late for world building or they should have limited to the first 2-3 episodes,

Lee Jinwook is terrified of going back to the lab he keeps pestering Hyunsu about not going there blah blah well they go and hyunsu is just locked up for 2 episodes lol . JInwook makes Hyunsu turn into stone and tells him he’d die here alone and so on but somehow because they do not show us Hyunsu gets out of that predicament and really quickly because at the same time Yikyung was giving birth and he was there immediately after the little monster baby was out lol.

Our new MC Eunyu still just as annoying and selfish as ever. Has had absolutely no growth but i liked that she’s somehow turned Herself into some sort of Rambo.

Unnecessary love triangle Eunyu was never supposed to be a love interest for Hyunsu but here we are i think not making this absolutely ridiculous love triangle would have made the story much better.

Not only do they jump from story line to story line nothing ever comes together. They say Eunyu murdered the chief husband but we never saw what happened until the very end so the whole time i was so confused, It’s a literal mess and i dont understand how anyone could have truly enjoyed this junk.

I did enjoy the military addition it was the only addition i liked. Becuase it absolutely made sense.

Unnecessary deaths and new additions : they killed the little boy’s sister so sudden no one was extreamly hurt except her does that make sense just to make him a little a-hole and do nothing meaningful with his character. The priest the sick girl other ppl who are taking shelter in the stadium is like none of those stories made sense. They killed Jisu for no reason. Took so long trying to get her hand stamp making it seem like something amazing was going to happen but was all a waste of time lol.

Had they focused on the monsters at he lab I think it would’ve been better.

Oh and dont remind of the weird doctor with the monster fetish they tried to make him quirky and funny but the portrayal was just annoying . also that girl who was with the old man and gave the military guy some mushrooms with was that??? It was weird and r*pey not at all funny or amusing.

FIRST FEW EPISODES PLAY WITH YOUR FEELINGS!

I WAS SO EXCITED FOR PART TWO. It could have been better. I waited 3 years to be disappointed. The first two minutes of the first episode gave off what I thought was the setting for this season which was wiping out all human kind and having monsters taking over the earth. which was proven wrong and made me confused. The next scene cuts to Hyun soo in a military vehicle with who we think is Wook Pyeon but is actually Eui Myeong using wook pyeon body (he died in season 1). Wook Pyeon escapes with Hyun soon. We learn the military need Hyun soo because he's special (half monster half human) and they need him for the cure. I'll list a few things I hated in episode 1.

1) they killed a innocent man that was bleed because he had leukemia.
2) the military men were overly aggressive and rude.
3) they killed a monster that was trying to help a human child find its mom! the monster wasn't aggressive towards the humans. she put her hands up to show she wasn't going to hurt anyone. they also used the mom as bait to bring out the baby monster to try to kill it too.
4) the dog from season 1 escapes from its owner and we don't get any clarification what happened to the dog after that. what happened to the dog??!

one thing I did like was that Tak In-Hwan let the baby monster live because it didn't attack any of the soldiers or survivors.

in the second episode the military eventually catches Hyun soo and Dr. Lim has him fight another monster. He ends up seeing what his life was like before becoming a monster. We learn that Yi-Kyung's husband is still alive. at the end of episode 2 two of the surviving characters from season 1 die, but one of them became a monster.

they killed of half of the characters that survived season 1 in the first three of four episodes! Yi-Kyungs husband is alive but hes sacrifice himself to be a test subject for Dr. Lim. We learn the yi-kyung is pregnant with a monster and she eventually gives birth to a half monster half human baby. The military takes over and kills the people who wanted to take over the world with monsters. They added new characters that were a little confusing and random. I was confused on how they complained on them losing military men but they continued to kill off their men!?

Visually, Season 2 is better. the CGI is way more impressive. The different landscapes, you can tell they shot in different places around Korea and I think the stadium scene was shot it Nagoya, Japan! The attention to detail from gunfire to explosive scenes was amazing! this was more of a minor dislike but yi-kyung hating her daughter and wanting to kill her! Ah-yi was better off with Hyun soo!! why did she come back into that poor child's life! I think she would of turned out different.
The last few episodes leave you on cliff hangers and doesn't continue.

I hope season 3 is better and less confusing. STOP KILLING THE MAIN CHARACTERS!

Disappointing Sequel to a Perfect First Season!

Okay so I’m gonna preface this by saying I have read both the WEBTOON Sweet home and the prequel Shotgun boy so for this second season I had to fill in a lot of gaps with this knowledge so If I was a kdrama only I would probably rate this season lower- now to the review…
Season one covered basically the entire sweet home WEBTOON like basically everything except a few monsters and the firefighter/special ops woman was a new addition but they were generally pretty faithful to the original and that’s what made it so good the WEBTOON was already a masterpiece they didn’t have to do too much and the cgi was actually pretty good for a lot of the monsters it was very entertaining and where we left off at the end of the season made us very hype for this second season but sadly it didn’t deliver in a lot of aspects
Season 2 left us with more questions than answers and not the good kind of questions such as how did hyun even escape the facility after the fight with the other MH in the gangsters body sorry I’m bad with names haha but we just all of a sudden see him not a stone? And helping the firefighter take care of her baby and why their eyes turn white now instead of black? And why so much story time of these random survivors I did not like the like bunker/underground shelter story they had going I was not connected to any of those characters and felt pretty uninterested in it especially since all of the actual fan favorites died before they got there. And hyuks sister was cool with the soldier but also only really cared when she met up with hyun and was interested to see if she was actually gonna find hyuk but I did like the ending with hyuk coming out the egg, but I wish they explored more of the egg ppl aka like the evolved monster humans bc in the WEBTOON we see more of their like power that isn’t necessarily a power but they are protected by the monsters as they are the pinnacles of their being and the monsters r ppl who couldn’t overcome their desires and those who did reach the second stage so I’m glad hyuk did and he will definitely become a mastermind to the monsters but we start to see in this season the monsters organizing and working together and strategizing but they didn’t really show us like much of that since we see hyuk come out the egg at the end so now he isn’t the one who was controlling them so who was it?? And another thing the cg was much worse this season the monsters were looking obviously placed and fake and the monsters were lacking originality like why were there robot machine monsters like what desire is that the only monster we saw with some originality was the face monster who actually was from the WEBTOON but this season was entirely written from production aside from the egg ppl and hyuk being “alive” so there was a definite drop in quality since carnby kim wasn’t writing or designing the monsters for this. Such a shame but I do want to see how they do with s3 for this but the military emphasis was a bit boring especially since they didn’t even use the whole shotgun boy aspect of the origin of the monsterification or how there was already like a lab of people that had specialized ammo to kill the monsters that shotgun boy was using like what happened to all that I think if they had that like the lab people we see were those people it would of made it more compelling since they started this with “zero” and “one” who ultimately made it happen to all humans to reach their evolution so they definitely have some work to do!!

OMG

ermm very disappointing

the military plot was so boring and seemed unnecessary, i had to legit skip like 2 episodes because i couldn't sit and watch it through. I'm not a diehard fan of song kang but honestly I don't understand why there were so little song kang scenes? the main poster is literally him (and he's the main character in this show too) yet he only appeared like 4 times in the show?? hopefully season 3 next year would be better and less boring. i don't get why the plot had to be drastically changed, especially the script writers unnecessarily getting rid of many characters by making them die in this season. honestly, overall it was so disappointing considering the fact that many sweet home season 1 fans waited for like 2 years for this.

Mostly my cast list rants tbh

Honestly, I'm not gonna compare it with the first season cause it's been so long I don't even remember. But I truly enjoyed this one nonetheless.

But I'll say truly, Song Kang is not even a main cast here, for most of the drama I even forgot he was there. The soldiers carried the season for me.
I don't even know why Sangwook is listed as a main character if he doesn't even have ten minutes of screen time, similarly having Min Seojin as a guest role is unfair, he was on screen for longer than Cha Hyunsoo, Like, even Kang Seokchan has more lines. And Jisu dies in like episode three...

Anyway, cast list rant aside, I truly enjoyed the season.
As I said, the soldiers did it for me, their story was the most interesting, especially when, in the last two episodes, they go looking for their missing friend I was so invested in it, when Jonghyun and Seokchan were killed ( I still have hopes for them) I was devastated. Amazing job from Kim Muyol (Sergeant Kim) and Yoo Ohsung (Sergeant Tak)

What more to say? Eunyoo, amazing as expected.
Hyunsoo, forgot about him, and how does he un-stone himself or whatever? Idk And now, he's a full monster I guess
Eunhyuk is king of monsters now, interesting character setting for next season.

Lastly, I have to appreciate Kim Shiah's job here, I just saw See You in my 19th life, and comparing both her works I can see she has a promising future ahead, nailed both.
Choi Go as Youngsoo also did amazing, truly felt his rage.

This season fulfilled my expectations and set a good precedent for the next one, I'm so looking forward next summer.

Good But Also Not Good???

This review will contain spoilers so just be aware moving forward.

We'll start with Music - way better than S1 due to the fact we didn't have the same song playing almost every episode that sometimes didn't even fit the scene. It was much more minuscule and fitting for this season. 10 out of 10.

Acting/Cast - All were great especially all the returning cast. I mean it's been years since they've last played their characters and all of them seemed to pick back up right where they left off.

Story - Here's where it kind of takes a hit.
For one I know they decided to make their own story away from the web toon which is why the second (and subsequently the third) will feel different but yeah...there are some let downs.
First off there are too many new characters that I really don't give a crap about. Why? Well pretty much the entire remaining main cast returned for this season and the only one to get decent screen time was Eunyu. Moving forward with some spoilers.
The fact that Jisu died so quickly into the season was disappointing. Not to mention the way she died. I know she probably would've died anyway due to what she went through (surgery and post-surgery) but at least make it due to that and not some random kill off. I know this is probably due to Park Gyuyoung receiving more main roles now but it sucks that they couldn't keep her around for another episode or two. It just felt rushed.
I really liked the new army characters (Inhwan & Younghoo) at the beginning but when they focused on them so much alongside Chief Ji I didn't care for them.
I liked Eunyu's story of her looking for Eunhyuk but I was a little disappointed she never commented about looking for Hyunsoo as well. I mean I didn't want a whole ark of that but it would've been nice to know that she didn't just forget about him. Which I know is common sense but come on give us a little easter egg or something that she misses Hyunsoo.
Moving on to Yikyung, her baby becoming a monster makes no sense to me since I thought the monsterization is due to desires. What desires did the baby in her womb have to be born one? Idk maybe I missed some key details I did skip around a bit because you know I came to watch the season 1 characters stories and maybe a few new characters along the way. (I will be re-watching sometime to catch details I missed.) Anyway I feel like they just needed another monster human and felt this was a new unique way to introduce one.
Moving on to Dr. Lim, I didn't mind his character. His character made sense to be added but he also was kinda meh. Also don't ask me what happened near the end during his scenes because I skipped a lot of them to focus on Hyunsoo, Eunyu, and Chanyeong. However, what was unclear to me is is it true that Sangwook/Uimyeong is MH1 or Sangwon? (Again I may have missed some details due to skipping around - it's 4am here and like I need to sleep but I wanted to know what happened.)
Next up, Chanyeong - aka my favorite new addition to the show. I loved every scene with him in it. His character fits right in!
Lastly, Hyunsoo - um...like isn't he the main main character??? Why did it feel like I saw 30 minutes of him in total this entire season??? Disappointing but what little we did get of him, well, after the stone scene was great! I wasn't a fan of his scenes before then because like wtf happened? We get no clear footage of what happened to him when he turned to stone and why he did?
Also back to Sangwook/Uimyeong - what is his problem??? Him and Yikyung's daughter are about to become a force to be reckoned with. And who knows maybe they are father and daughter?
Oh and surprise Lee Dohyun made an appearance as a cliff hanger as Eunhyuk?!? Um, yes...but he low-key seems evil so like...noooo.
Oh and last thing, I don't dislike Yikyung's daughter's storyline and I don't dislike her character. I have a feeling she'll bring a lot to the table in S3 but we'll see.

Long story short - too many new characters that over-shadowed the previous cast. The potential of Jisu's character was cut, Eunyu's shined, Yikyung did all of the just to be killed by her own daughter, dog girl dies off camera granted she wasn't a main-main character but would've liked to see her go, Suyeong dies? it was super sad, Yeongsu becomes an asshole which rightfully so but come on don't take it out on those that care for you, Hyunsoo didn't get near enough screen time, Sangwook's storyline is meh but could get better in S3, the military guys are meh, Chanyeong is *heart eyes*, oh the two randos the one with the crazy girl after Chanyeong and the guy they met early in the season meh, possibly Dohyun/Eunhyuk return/I don't dislike the idea of it. All in all it just felt rushed and all over the place but also I'm too much of a fan of S1 and some of the parts in this season to hate it.

Re-watch value - for now 10/10 because like I skipped some parts. I will have to go back and rewatch.

Overall, I will need to see season 3 and what occurs in it before I accurately say I disliked this season.
