Confusing and Tiring

Just to be clear, Im only giving this show a 6 because of Kim and Copter, the show is a big confusing mess taking itself too seriously and tried to give us a big smorgasboard that didnt really work.

Let me talk about KitMark first, cause they are the main reason why i watched this show. Kim's acting can sometimes be silly but as silly as it is he is still lovable, and Copter is, as expected, always a pleasure to watch. Put them together in a scene and they just complemented each other well. The sad part is the series lacked consistency and at the last few episodes it felt like they were donwgraded to support characters.

Now lets discuss Bas and his character Wayu. I didnt enjoy him in 2moons but at least he was tolerable there. Here, the constantly crying Wayu is just annoying. His character was written like a princess who is more delicate than a real girl and is almost always vulnerable (and fainting or falling) and in need of assistance. He even needs help in washing his own hands for crying out loud. Girls act tougher than this guy in real life, its frustrating.

Whats with the supernatural element in this show? Thanu and Phai's destiny premonition or whatever you call that came out of nowhere but acceptable. But doing the same exact thing for Thanu and Wayu just pushed it to the edge of ridiculousness.

And then there's the fact that this show featured hundred thousand actors that everyone felt like minor characters. I hate shows that feels like nothing is happening after an episode, but this one tried to cram too much that you end up forgetting what and whose show it is in the first place.

One thing i also have to comment is the fact that this university has almost non-existent straight characters. I know this is a BL show, but for for the love of the goddess all girls were treated as shrieking accessories that oggles for cute guys even if he is obviously gay. I think in the finale they even forget that the real world has girls in it.

Will i rewatch, hell no, not even the KitMark scenes. Will i reccommend, maybe for tweens and for those who are still stuck at home and nothing to do but watch, but lower your expectations and i mean really low. Yes im glad that i at least get to watch Kim and Copter again, but i hope producers in Thailand realize how ridiculous it is to produce exactly the same low quality university themed BL stories over and over again - gay life is not this black and white boring.

Another Finale, Another Disaster.

Imma just dive into it. All that suspense, built-up, for what? All the back shots, Wayu’s constant suffering, for what?
Talking about the big reveal first. Personally, I feel betrayed and conned by this. Because I was extremely hyped and excited to see Pha’s comeback but i never expected to see a 40 year old looking man with an illegal hairstyle. I don’t know how to say it without sounding shallow but Pha was not it for me considering that his looks had to compensate for all the shit he put Wayu and us through . The way Pha was portrayed throughout the season, I expected someone at par with Thanu’s looks at least( for fair competition purposes) . Now that i’ve got that out of the way, moving forward.
MarkKit did not get the screen time they deserved at all, considering this season was supposed to be devoted to them. Once they got together, the whole focus completely shifted to the Wayu, Thanu, Phai debacle, which was very disappointing because considering that the second season is going to be about them anyway, more time could be devoted to MarkKit, they were the saving grace of this season for me and I loved watching them on screen but their screen time kept contracting with each passing episode. In fact, I would’ve loved to watch more MarkKit than the whole extremely unpleasant Tong and Pok scene in the finale which was just torturous to my eyes. The finale didn’t feel well planned at all and it felt as if most scenes were fillers just to delay the big reveal till the end of the episode.
Now onto the part I did like, evil Sandee. I dig it a lot and not just because it adds spice to the basic love triangle plot, but also bec I really want SandeePhai. It’ll be refreshing to watch Phai with someone who actually cares for him and doesn’t treat him like an option. It was also not cringy and engaging according to me. Also, the build up to the final scene, it was well done. Wayu receiving messages, red and white roses from Pha and Thanu. The whole sequence kept me on the edge of my seat and it was exciting to watch.
I’m not going to lie, this season was good entertainment and it got interesting in between but the finale was not as appealing to me. I’m still looking forward to Pha’s redemption arc and what season 2 has in store for us. ( except for the love triangle, of course). i’ll be praying.
ALSO, if i didn’t mention it before, MarkKit KINGS I STAN

Great start, but idk what happened...

If you watched 2moons you will recognize the actors Kimmon, Copter and Bas.
Though I personally liked them more in Gen Y the series where the mains are not Pha and Wayu as in 2moons but instead it focuses on Mark and Kit, who appeared in 2moons as Ming and kit, and as the support couple.

Story: I think the story is fine, nothing amazing or extraordinary but just fine. Mark is the best friend of Wayu who is dating Pha, who’s best friend is Kit. Mark catches an interest in Kit as soon as he lays eyes on him and decides to approach him. Kit at first, doesn’t seem interested at all but more annoyed.
Yet, as time goes, the change and growing trust for each other is visible and interesting to watch. Their relationship has a good dynamic and it will become clear that they somehow go well togther despite being so different. As they bicker and argue a lot, their sincerity and care for each other is there.

Acting: Their acting is pretty well performed. Kimmon and Copter are both actors from earlier and no beginners. I can also see they really improved a lot. They capture their characters well as the handsome and charming, yet deep caring Mark and the tough and clever Dr Kit. Their characters are very different but if you're open for it, you will grow to understand them both. Coming to their chemistry, it's there and have improved a lot as well.

Extra:
I think one of the best things about this serie is the fact how being “something else than straight” is seen as something so normal. And yes, it is very unrealistic I know, and I do think it's important to reflect reality in dramas but to be honest, that part was still realistically performed. I know that it would never happen in reality but wishing is free right? And I do wish it was like this in real life too. Even if it is far from reality "being not straght" is something that should’ve been normalized long ago. There are no struggles with the thought of being gay or even about sexuality at all. They just like someone, a person, and isn't that enough? Mark and Kit doesn’t seem effected by liking a guy at all and none around them seems to look at it as something unusual either.

EDIT (finished it):
So I finished the serie now and first of all I wanna say, this serie started off really well but what actually happened towards the ending? Despite that I can say now that I will watch season 2.

After Markkit got together they had some happy moments that gave me a happy feeling as well. Towards the end their story sort of ended and they became a support couple while the main focus started focusing on the love triangle for Thanu, Wayu and Phai. For me it was hard to decide who to ship with who because the dize did not get thrown for a while, some of them were just lacking personality and it all could feel very dragged out sometimes. Their story got boring sometimes because it just moved too slowly or felt too dragged out from time to time. Some of their scenes were too slow or just straight up unnecessary. Despite their love triangle drama they were all kind people and deserved good (especially Phai, such an angel honestly). I hope this gets clearer in season 2.

We also get to follow two other boys, this was a sort of "hate-yet attracted to each other" relationship with some real serious tension. Two of Sansab's friends, Pok and Tong. At first I wasn't that interested in their story because their story literally came from nowhere. But it did get a bit more interesting later on. It was too toxic for me sometimes though which I didn't like but in the end, what got me stuck was probably the excitment in their tension. It was on a surprisingly high level and I could feel their insanely strong hate yet desire for each other if that makes sense? I really hope this gets cleared up in season 2 as well.
About Pha... I understand why they hid his face in the beginning. At first I thought it was because they could not include Pha's original actor God, but it doesn't seem like that now when Big has the role. Pha's sudden return though... no. I don't like that, it's the least they need now tbh.
The end of this season 1 left me with a lot of questions. Now all I can do is wait for next season.

Holy smokes, Gen Y is good! Because they have several seasons planned for this drama, they have the time to actually develop all the relationships. And they do it so well!

Mark & Kit are pretty much in the can, the resident Happy Couple(TM)! So I wonder what the drama has in store for them in S2, what will be the wrench that proverbial monkey will throw in. Because they seem as ridiculously happy and content as two peas in a pod at the moment. Suspicious, if you ask me!

Then the whole Pha/Wayu/Thanu/Phai quadrangle! Gosh, it’s so well developed. Pha who seemed as the perfect guy at first now seems almost threatening, that creepy music that started playing whenever Wayu received one of his gifts in the finale was, well, creepy! And Thanu is just so, so sweet! And Phai, too! But it’s this quadrangle that’s at the centre of the supernatural plot of memories sharing and fated soulmates. And it’s so intriguing! I have never, ever, ever seen this plot done before, fate giving someone two soulmates and telling them to deal with it.

(It’s interesting, though, that with Wayu, Thanu shared memories of the past. With Phai memories of the future. Similar but not the same.)

Then there’s Sandee who somehow, in some way fits into this quadrangle. Because Pon Thanapon and Bank Thanathip who play Phai and Sandee, respectively, played a couple in two dramas before already and even the ad at the end of the finale featured them together so... I would say Phai and Sandee are headed in the way of becoming a couple in the future, too? Probably? Maybe? The fact that Sandee kept asking Phai if Phai believed in destiny would suggests so. But... is Sandee actually a good guy or not? Because, boy, did he do some really shady stuff in this drama. While looking incredibly, amazingly, stunningly hot! (Sue me :P)

And Thong and Pok. Holy smokes! The naughty, naughty scene with them was one of the hottest things I’ve ever seen, hands down. The way Thong got off on Pok being so rough with him. Goodness gracious, he loved it. You know, for two newcomers, these actors were just stunning there. At first, their interaction in the drama seemed stilted but as we saw more of them, their chemistry got so much better and when that sex scene happened? Christ on a cracker! I can’t wait to see where S2 will take them.

Also Jack and Koh, the mystery of Padbok and Thanu etc. and so on, of course!

This drama is so, so good! The first half focused mainly on Mark and Kit and only laid very rough foundations for the “kids” that joined the university later on. But when they did, I actually knew them already so I was honestly interested in every single one of those pairings! That was such a smart writing. I loved it.

So yeah, this drama has humor but also real intrigue and you never know what direction it will take next. Amazing. It makes me want to go back to the very beginning and watch it all anew now that I know more or less what’s going on and learn more about the characters that I paid little attention to before. From me? Both thumbs up!

Believe in destiny?

I'll start off by saying, I enjoyed the original 2moons cast very much so I was excited to see Kimmon, Copter and Bas to play in another BL together. As before; They have not let me down with the chemistry. Up to now they've managed to make me cry several times and laugh as well. One thing I wonder tho is the reason for keeping Pha's face a mystery.

Now for the side characters; I love each and everyone of them, even the jerk, Padbok. I especially love Phai and Sandee since they're played by Pon and Bank from The Moment: I need you mini series. I love the chemistry between their respective future partners and with Wayu, Kit and Mark; They all play off eachother really well in my opinion. Since there's so many of them though, it is a bit unfair on screen time but if you're only interested in the main that won't bother you. Will update once it's over.

The Ost is catchy as well.

Update: Just finished the final episode of Season 1 and I seriously can't wait for season 2! That twist at the end oh my god. At the end I came out rooting for WayuThanu, PokTong and MarkKit of course ♡. Also sideeyeing some characters...Anyways, give it a chance you'll enjoy it.

This was so much FUN!

I fell in love with this show and it's going to sound like I hated it. But I didn't.

We're used to college themed BL's where an Engineer and some snarky or innocent "bottom" fall in love. That would be Mark/Kit. But the two main leads in this, Wayu and Thanu, are both very sweet, soft boi's. And neither of them are Engineers! Thank fuck!

In the web-series the drama was adapted from, Wayu and Mark are the center around which most things revolve. That's true in the drama as well, but Season 1 of Gen Y also goes way past where the web book left off-- which began as a sort of fan-fic based on 2 Moons. The author understandably didn't like Phana's character and set out to build a world where Wayo had options. She of course knocked the edges off by renaming the main characters and adding in original ones. Wayo became Wayu. Ming became Mark. Phana became Pharawee.

Mark and Wayu aren't really that much like Ming and Wayo. Mark isn't just an exuberant playboy with Teflon sensibilities. He's loyal. He can be hurt. He gets angry. He's fierce at times, tender at others. And while Wayo was defensive and closed off and couldn't easily express himself--Wayu is a people person who communicates well, is kind and open, and has big, BIG balls. Coming through the other side of a brutal breakup still having faith in love takes big, big balls. Standing up to Padbok when Wayu knew Padbok was probably going to kick his ass? Big, big balls. And yes, getting back in the saddle and trying another relationship after being literally abandoned took big, BIIiiggg balls. People rag on his crying in some of the other reviews. But crying doesn't mean weakness. Emotional vulnerability doesn't mean weakness. Real grieving takes time.

But Kit is still Kit. Still kind of stuck up. Still reactionary. Still very cross. Still not a pleasant person to date. The upside to this version of Kit is his relationship with Wayu. He's very sweet and soft for Wayu. For every moment when he gives Mark hell, he's caring for Wayu. So at least that adds dimension to the character and gives Copter something to run with. He's still not a character I much like. If I was Mark I'd have given up and chased after someone who acted like they actually wanted to be in a relationship.

Thanu, or as I like to call him--Captain Eyebrows--is handsome, tall, intense, kind and good-natured. Which naturally means he was doomed to struggle. He started out attracted to a boy he only saw in passing and didn't get to actually meet until Thanu was already falling in love with Wayu. He finally meets Phai and quickly becomes the textbook definition of fucked. Shared visions? Really!? Some may criticize that he avoided Wayu to take time to choose which boy he really should be with. And yes ghosting Wayu was a dick move, considering Wayu's past. But I think Thanu was trying to avoid hurting Wayu. Which made the choice stupid, not malicious. If that had been going on when I was in college, I'd have needed a trip to Tahiti, my metric weight in Rum and a complete social media blackout to handle it. So I'm good with Thanu. He picked Wayu. Plus, he's got a Mustang. How can I not love that?

Sab. While Wayu is somewhat of an ideal--cute, nice, polite, socially adept and genuine, Sab is snoopy to a prurient degree, he teases his cousin Wayu, he's meddlesome, hyperbolic and manipulative. In other words, he's perfect as Wayu's polar opposite. And they cast an actor that legitimately looks like he's related to Wayu! Love it!

I think Phai was supposed to be sweet and interesting. I wouldn't know. He has two expressions--'eyebrow up' and 'eyebrow down'. I've seen smooth river rocks with more personality.

In fact, except for Sandee and Sab, most of the support cast is forgettable. But Sandee? Wow, bro. Disney villain much? Though he's going to get out of baby bad-boi jail later on, because some of the fucked up stuff he does is due to being in love with Phai (and crazy) and the rest because he's deeply, deeply maladjusted (and crazy). For now he's as interesting as the support cast gets.

I didn't like Koh, who was insufferable. Or Pok and Tong who were hugely toxic? Padbok... Bro, you don't strangle someone because they're your frenemy's study-buddy. Klui and Kalae. Uh... Who? Jack was probably best of the rest, but even he made my eyes roll. Manhandling someone because they're smol is NOT cool, Jack. And I know I should probably care about the characters from the media arts faculty, but I don't. As for Pha... He was there for 30 seconds. I've got nothin' except Dayum. So, so tall.

As I said in the opening, I sound like I hated this show. But I loved it! Because Thanu/Wayu made it all worthwhile. In any given BL about 70% of it needs reworked or thrown out. It's that golden 30% you love a BL for. And that 30% is Thanu and Wayu.

A bit angsty with drawnout teases! haha Worth watching ;)

Now, to prepare you... it's a little strange that the whole time they have us falling in love with all the characters (for me in particular it was Wayu ;)), while one character's face is completely unseen! I mean, they did a great job on that and not even a slip up or distinguishing mark could be seen to tell him apart from a random stand-in or just in case one of the other characters filled in for as his back haha! But the thing that's sad and troubling is the constant pain Wayu's in with splashes of happiness. In truth, some breakups are never clean or easy nor do they all mean the person hurting does reckless things or drowns themself in alcohol or drugs to cope; this series let's us see that through Wayu's experience. The mysterious Pha's actions starts to feel possessive, almost toxic to me... I found that very refreshing and despite the takes around the rain & shower scenes near the beginning, Wayu actor Bass does an amazing job displaying the emotions of his character. He has an amazing voice too... boy can sing to me anytime!!

Hey, also if you've endured the torture of wanting & watching your two favorite characters almost kiss and think you can tackle the same for nearly 4-5, 60+ min episodes straight, then baby, this right here's a teasing pleaser!

Overall, I love the inclusiveness of the stories, circumstances of all the characters and commend the writers, cast & directors/producers for keeping all the stories distinct & clear. The chemistry & cohesiveness of the cast makes me want to see the behind the scenes clips even more!! The star couple, Mark & Kit, I just love them and then there's a hint of something else with Sandee... He himself indirectly gets told "not everything is as 'he' himself sees it," nor is it set in stone. lol yes these are my words summing up an incident that I felt had meaning. Specifically, it felt like a warning that he shouldn't take actions himself... but he does y'all & if you watch it, you'll see what I mean. Well, I hope this helps & you enjoy the series as much as I do/did! I'm always happy to talk about whatever you've seen that stands out too!

Happy viewing!

Feel Good Series

If I were comparing this series to another like Tale of A Thousand Stars or ITSAY, then it wouldn't be rated nearly as high as I have it. Was this the best series ever? No. Did it have the best plot with the best actors? No, but it still was just a feel-good show that entertained me and grabbed at my heart.

Let's Dive In.

I missed Copter and Kimmon so much. Their chemistry in 2moons was absolutely radiating, and I so desperately wanted to see them again (and no, I do NOT count Hotel Stars), so you can see where my excitement was coming from when I heard they would be in a new series that actually featured BL. I loved Mark and Kit (lol, they basically kept the same plot and just changed up the names), They brought such a cute and delightful relationship to the screen. They were both very opposite of each other, and I think it just fits so perfectly for these actors who play well at the cat and dog type roles. Kit turning Mark down was really hard for me to watch. I could feel how hurt and heartbroken that Mark was and it depicted a great scene of how some relationships work. Some people are ready for a relationship, and others are just trying to figure it out. My only argument per se would be that Mark did a bit much at the beginning to flirt with Kit. Most of the time it came off as stalkerish and obsessed. Would've liked it had he taken his time more.

Most might not have liked the fact that Wayu spent most of the season sulking over Phu, but it's what actually happens with breakups, and I feel like we're able to finally see just how well-rounded of an actor Bas is. He did an incredible job at pertaining to be this brooding and heartbroken character, but I also like that we see him slowly recovering and being back to his old self. My only argument on Wayu is that they gave him this god-awful haircut that made him look twelve. Please, never again. I wasn't a huge fan of those bickering dudes that were trying to fight for Wayu's love. It felt too out of place for two grown men to be fighting like that, and it just took me out of the story. There were hints that Jack and Kalae might've had something going on between them, but sadly, I was not interested in the slightest bit. Let's move on Phu. While we do see Wayu interacting with Phu on the phone, whenever he was there in person, we only got to see the back of a head and nothing else. Why was Phu's identity kept a secret? Like, what was the point? There was no build-up to the reason why we don't see his face, and when we finally do in the finale, it sort of a "finally!" moment, but still it was meaningless, we should've just seen him from the getgo.

I really liked Thanu. While I felt that the actor himself was very mediocre in his performance as Thanu, I still enjoyed his presence in the series. He serves as the sort of reminder for Wayu that Phu is gone until they start to slowly hit it off, which I really enjoyed. I'm excited to see how they handle Wayu's relationship now that Phu is back just as he and Thanu were getting closer. Thanu had an ongoing battle with Padlock that serves as the reason why he left in the first place. I can't really remember why they didn't like each other, but whatever it was, it caused Thanu to have to leave and come back a year later (I think it was a year?). While it felt a bit much in the already complicated plot that was going on, I didn't have a problem since Junior (Padlock) did an excellent job and I loved seeing him on screen.

Onto Phai and his gang. Most of the boys that worked at this mini coffee shop had mediocre acting at best. None of them stood out as good to me, and quite frankly, I could've done without half of them. Sab was cute and had his occasional funny moments, but he felt like a character that could've been quickly cut out since he didn't serve a very important role in the series. He was very much a filler character that had a bunch of pointless screentime that could've been used for something different. Moving onto Phai. I liked the underlining relationship that was blossoming between him and Sandee. They were so shy and gentle around each other, which was a nice switch from the other couples we had seen. The best part about the two of them was the mini jar thing they were doing. They always just looked so precious around each other, and when they sometimes read the notes, they gave each other this look that spoke volumes. That was until the show goes south and starts this random-ass romance between Phai and Thanu. It's kind of like they were soulmates and both destined to meet. I wasn't here for them at all, most likely because I had already shipped them with their previous partners, but also because it felt so out-of-the-blue. Also, they added some weird-ass fantasy aspect with this couple in which they were able to see their future when they touched hands (or made eye contact, I can't remember). This aspect took me out of the actual show. It was uncalled for, and if the rest of the series wasn't going to be fantastical, then they didn't need to add that attribute for Phai and Thanu. Thankfully Thanu turns Phai down and decides to still pursue Wayu, but since Phai and him were shown to be soulmates, I don't feel the same for Wayu and Thanu like I did.

Tong and Pok's story felt like I was watching an entirely different series. While Sandee kind of connected into their story a bit (and we see that he might be a bit of a bad guy), I still feel like this couple was a bit much, and could've easily been cut. However, I did really like their dynamic. They had a very obvious sexual tension that got bigger and bigger towards the end. We see that they almost have a slight breaking moment, but were still able to overcome it. Some of the consent was left up in the air that could've easily been solved with a little bit of communication, but whatever I guess since it's BL right? (sarcasm!).

Overall, this is the feel-good series that I loved. Nothing spectacular happens, the acting is mediocre at best with a few exceptions, and the production looked like your average Thai BL. I do recommend a watch, it was cute, lighthearted, and humorous.

It started well but got messed up somewhere in the middle.

I was excited when the series began but somewhere down the line, the Wayu-Thanu-Phai triangle became too chatoic that I had to watch their scenes at 2x. Wayu, even from the initial episodes seemed too clingy and dependent (not a bad thing but not very impressive either). I had no interest in Thanu until Thanu-Phai began. I started shipping those two because they both seemed mutually attracted and then the whole fantasy sequence played. I was okay with Thanu taking care of Wayu out of responsibility and sympathy but then the makers decided to play the fantasy element for these two as well and that actually ruined the fantasy connection between Thanu and Phai. The whole scene where they realise that it was Thanu and not Pha who saved Wayu and hence it was Thanu and Wayu destined to be together felt the stupidest. I mean, just because someone(Thanu) was supposed to be in place was somebody else(Pha) does not mean that you were supposed to love that person (Thanu). This completely disregards Wayu and Pha's love and relationship as if there was nothing to their relationship and Wayu would have loved anyone, literally anyone who would've been good to him. But this also seemed correct for Wayu's character as all through the series I just felt that he was just desperate to be taken care of, initially by Pha and then by Thanu.
I actually want Wayu to reflect and work on himself before being in a relationship, and if he is to be with somebody it should be Pha and not Thanu. People are complaining as to how can people ship Wayu with Pha when Pha was missing throughout the series but that's not actually true. Pha was very much a part of the series, more than many other characters even though he was physically absent. The action was moved forward because of Pha at several occassions. And the reason behind Pha breaking up with Wayu never seemed to be falling out of love but some unavoidable circumstances.
Also, I don't think Sandee turned out to be evil in the last episode because it was nowhere evident that he had some ill intentions. I believe he just wanted to help his friend Phai.

In the Wayu-Thanu-Phai triangle, the youngest was somehow more mature than the elders. Thanu was so indecisive that I actually disliked him for this and Wayu was too clingy and dependent to be liked. I hope the characters work on themselves in the coming season coz if they are this immature they are definitely not likeable.
P.S. The main couple Mark and Kit were good throughout and their relationship progressed well, even though they had less scenes in later episodes, but it was unavoidable since they had multiple stories and characters to deal with.
