This drama is tied with two others for my top favorite. :). I just want you all to know that this is my opinion (and my first review :O) and I hope that you find it helpful :).

The story was a little unorthodox but it was different, especially for the year that it aired. It was quite interesting, and some people were already familiar with it because it was a manga. I liked the story because it was suspenseful. I found myself on the edge of my seat and always wondering what would happen next. I also liked how romantic it was. Considering that I didn't read the manga, I thought that the cast fit their roles very well. Sumire's character is very intriguing and I thought that Koyuki portrayed her well. MatsuJun is a great actor, seeing at how many different characters he has played. He was oh so adorable in this drama (long hair!). The music was good enough for me to download the soundtrack :).

I recently rewatched this drama for, i believe, the fourth time :D. I never seem to tire of it. I believe it is a must-watch, especially if you want to see good chemistry in an adorable romance.

I hope you found this review helpful! Thank you for reading! Now go watch Kimi wa Petto :D

I remember discovering and watching the Korean movie You're My Pet back when I first started watching dramas. Since then, I have watched many shows and have only just gotten around to watching the original Kimi Wa Petto.

I liked this drama, I really did. The concept is slightly odd, and can be uncomfortable at times, but still enjoyable to watch. I think my only problem with it, besides slight discomfort at times, was that it occasionally felt a little slow. Putting this aside, I really liked the exploration of what is considered socially acceptable and gender roles. These in-depth explorations were a nice addition to the show.

I enjoyed the acting quite a bit. Matsumoto Jun was fabulous! Though I've enjoyed watching Jang Guen Suk in various dramas, he can't quite pull of the role of Momo like Matsumoto Jun. I think that Momo was definitely my favorite character.

The music in Kimi Wa Petto didn't stand out to me too much, but I did like the ending theme as well as several of the piano pieces that played in the background throughout the drama.

Overall I really liked Kimi Wa Petto. I think that the main problem I had with it was the fact that I couldn't always tell what it was aiming to be. Sometimes it felt as if it was a comedy, but then would take a 90 degree turn and give off melodrama vibes. At times I just felt as if the drama was missing something. Despite this, I still enjoyed the show and liked the message of it. The chemistry between the leads was good as well.

When it comes to comparing Kimi Wa Petto and You're My Pet, I would recommend watching Kimi Wa Petto first. I wouldn't say that You're My Pet is a terrible movie, but it's definitely not the same as the original drama. Kimi Wa Petto definitely has more character depth and delves deeper into the characters' relationships.

Kimi Wa Petto wasn't the best drama that I've ever watched, but it was solid and enjoyable and I'm glad to have finally watched the original drama adaptation.

EXCELLENT!

If you are looking for a binge-worthy drama that you can finish in one sitting, this is it. The story is your usual rom-com drama but what makes this one worthy is the acting and the chemistry between the two actors. Both have played their parts excellently which makes you want to keep on watching one episode after another even though the story is very predictive. I think this is one of the classics and you should definitely give it a try.

As for the 2017 version I found that the cast wasn't properly tailored to the role. No one can do it like jun Matsumoto. If I had to pick one I would definitely pick this one over the remake.

One of the best dramas I have ever watched!! This was a completely different ride than any other drama I'd ever seen!

It was funny and romantic but realistic and understandable. There were no extreamly rediculous plot twists or phony crap that

would never happen anywhere but on tv, but it was no where near boring. The story really pulls you in and makes you need

to keep watching! Its great and I'd recommend this to anyone!

Kimi Wa Petto has one of the most original plots I have encountered considering the manga and the year. While the older woman and younger man trope has hit a boom in recent years, this show has more than just that in its value. Career, gender, tradition, public image, self image and worth, romance, [very little] sex, love, and age are all components of this show. Of course it varies from the manga somewhat, especially where it ends seeing as the actual manga was not finished in 2003 but 2005 and it is only !) episodes. However, it was very good. There is comedy, competition, romance, and even a little bit of heartbreak/angst - something to appeal to almost everyone. Compared to the Korean version (which I saw first) I prefer this version. Each version has it's own pros and cons but this version was a little more on the realistic side than its Korean film counterpart, which was a little disappointing. The cinematography was nice enough, some things showed its age, but nothing was wrong or annoying. The camera angles definitely enhanced the involvement of the viewer.

The acting was mostly pleasant, a little iffy at times, but never cringe-worthy. This is Kato Koyuki's first main role beyond a few minor parts in shows/films and modelling so it makes sense for her to be awkward at times, especially because stiffness is the main trait of her character Sumire. While she was not the best actress, it is nothing that can"t be ignored. No one was a super stand out star for me except the wonderful Matsumoto Jun, or rather, MoMo. He officially made this show, he was the best character out of everyone (in my opinion.) As much as I want to say I love Jang Geun Suk as MoMo in the Korean version, Matsumoto is the best. The other actors were pleasant enough to watch, especially Sumire's best friend. She was another fun character.

There wasn't too much music involved in the show. When it did occur it had good placement and the dance scenes were fun to watch. I could sense the passion and found them interesting, especially with it being more contemporary and expressive dancing.

Overall, I really loved this show even with its few flaws. It is also very rewatchable. I would reccommend this show to many people. There is also no weird feeling that makes you question Sumire's intentions with MoMo, something many complain about with the Korean film as being creepy. I think you should definitely watch this if you have time to kill, want something cute, have read the manga, or want to compare versions even. I'm also looking forward to watching the 16 episode Japanese remake, hopefully they can flesh the story out more.

Ahora quiero saber... ¿Dónde me consigo un Momo?

Didn't quite do it for me

I love dramas with unusual premises and this certainly fits the bill! But I really feel like it could've been better than it was. At times the tone felt all over the place and left me feeling a bit adrift, too. A drama doesn't necessarily have to slot neatly into one specific genre or "vibe," but it was jarring to veer back and forth between bittersweet melancholy and peppy humor. I legitimately had no idea if it would end happily or not, or how much the couple were really invested in each other, even up until the last twenty minutes. Likewise, the leads' connection to each other was solid in some scenes, and wishy-washy in others. I often felt like an outsider viewing a relationship from a distance, rather than feeling intimately drawn into their story. I'd venture to say this is less a straight-up romance than it is a study of human relationships and what we mean to each other, with the romance serving as a vehicle for that. Which is a perfectly valid story to tell, just be aware going in! (I try hard not to compare remakes with each other, but I will say I strongly preferred the 2017 version.)

"People need someone with whom they can be truly selfish"

It's my 4th time of watching this. When I saw it first I rated it as 7 and about a year ago I rated it 8,5.

It has aged well. I saw this the first time when I was 15 and the themes didn't feel as important to me then. Now, when I'm older I can see the whole series in a new light. It deals with the stereotypical ideas of what being a woman/man should be, and it challenges it. The love story is really interesting and kind of odd, but also there is understandable circumstances. Some stereotypical moments, but they seemed to at least have original results.

I really liked your main character. She was really strong woman who was good at her job, but not that good with love or showing her emotions. "Momo" was a man that just wanted to live freely. He also seemed to have little identity crisis over all of this. Every character was faulty in some ways and did mistakes, but that just made me feel more closer to them (I really liked the counselor even if I'm not sure if he is that good with his job...). Main character's best friend was also awesome!

Editing was something you would except for an old drama (so not really that awesome...). It was so snappy and fast, so in terms of editing it never felt draggy. That being said I didn't really like how some of the dancing scenes where edited/filmed, but it was still ok.

For me, it really hit off after ep 6. Will probably rematch this again in the future!!

This drama based on the manga has have many adaptions of it, but i still believe that this one is the best, starred the popular actors Koyuki (seen her in "The Last Sauraj" opposite Tom Cruise) and one of my favourite Asian actors Jun Matsumoto- they both give incredible performances as this drama explains the relationship between a human and pet. The Main-hero has to suffer a painful unrequited love as a human pet to his savior and owner, the Main-heroine. It`s really charming and funny, and the main-leads had so much angst going on that i sometimes shed some tears. But the HEA is still sweet to watch!

A warm blanket

I have seen this drama in recommended a few times but I always avoided it. Why? I don't know, it just looked complicated and not to my taste but I was wrong.
I watched it in two days and had fun.

Story
Small conflicts are introduced at the beginning of the episode and solved by the end, nothing dragged.
What connected all those small conflicts was an overarching story between Sumire and Momo.
You could say their relationship is weird but it was what they needed.
Momo needed someone who would tell him he is a good boy, who would show him warmth and Sumire needed someone to open up about her troubles and cry.
The progress of their relationship was nicely done. It was fluffy and I smiled a lot while watching it.

Characters
Sumire was my favorite character, she knows how to defend herself and she is strong but even if she is strong, it doesn't mean nothing bothers her. She overthinks and breaks down many times but she gets up and tries to do better.
Momo was so cute. My favorite parts were when we saw him as Takeshi, how differently he behaves. While watching you would think what would make him accept being someone's pet but after a while it's clear he wants to have a home and someone who sees him as he is. Not as someone perfect but as a person with flaws.
Hasumi was meh. I didn't like him but I didn't hate him. He felt like a male version of Sumire, good looks, school and income but he couldn't give her emotional support she needed and I think she felt that so she never really opened up to him. There was always a wall while they were together. She always felt exhausted after being with him.
I think even if Momo was not there, the two of them wouldn't last long.

Things I didn't like
Blatant misogyny, both men and women treated Sumire like trash because she was smart and independent, they made it seem like a bad thing.
Psychiatrist sometimes gave good advice and sometimes I wanted to hit him with a brick.
Sumire not getting rid of Momo while dating Hasumi or getting rid of Hasumi and staying with Momo. I understand she is bad at expressing her feeling and that it was done to show the difference between what she thinks is love and what was actually love but I still felt icky a few times.
Hasumi being super naive and pushy at times.
Fukushima being desperate and chasing after Hasumi after he said he doesn't like her.
But all of those were tiny parts of the story that could be skipped and ignored for the sake of enjoying the story.

I would rewatch this if I need something cute with fun story and characters.

Momo barking was definitely the funniest thing ever.

Cute drama!
Old jdrama are way better on acting. They're more realistic, not cringy and characters here don't play dumb. I hate when actresses tryin to be so cutesy at all, such oa they're being annoying.
It has a weird concept tho, why would someone accepts to be a pet lol but since it's Jun Matsumoto it's bearable. Plus his character here is so cute ? can't get over with his childish looks.
This drama is very relatable to those pet lovers, I can pretty much relate to the shrink's pov here.
