even though knew what i was "walking into" this was a sad watch. having watched similar movies (my favorite; Sarah Polley's, My Life Without Me 2003) this concept isn't new to me. maybe cause of that could keep a cool head, in-spite of cheating being the main issue everyone is "up in arms" about (usually am the first to condemn cheater's, and think it's never justified. rather people just break-up with their partner/spouse, then cheat on them) but considering the main topic - which is Dying (Not cheating). u can't look at this type of movie with a black an white - rigid POV.
this was so much more then - cheating, it was about how people deal with this type of situation - think the only one i can't figure out is Jung Hyuk - first if he so devoted to his gf, why it seem he not even interested in her? and as she has friends, why only he helping her? where her parents at? she had major surgery after all. and as they not even sleeping together (which symbolizes more then just being horny) it means they r serious, that they committed to each other - then his being her guardian makes sense. but his attitude was distant - as if he had to be there, not wanted to. it would go to explain his instant attraction to a beautiful woman, while he was just suffering his spoilt brat of a gf.
the rest is pretty easy to get, Sin Ae was vulnerable, scared, tired, thankful and angry ironically all that was not only directed at her husband, but at herself and Jung Hyuk gave her freedom - not only to cut her husband lose, but to live the rest of what life she had, the way she wanted. even though her husband loved her, he inadvertently made her aware that she should be grateful - his words when she told him she wanted a divorce - just emphasize what they both subconsciously knew. that he though she should owe him for making this grand sacrifice. what started out as love turned into duty and a burden. him acting/filling the role of martyr. so she gave him an out, where he wasn't the bad-guy. where even her death would be sad, not devastating. she accepted the role of bad-guy. even though she did that more for herself, cause she was tired of being a burden and feeling guilty and sorry towards him. nothing here black and white - it's so complex - like human's r. same with her leaving Jung Hyuk even if there was an instance where she fantasized about being with him - she would Never repeat the life she lead just this time with Jung Hyuk, not when she was this close to the end. and her collapse just strengthened her resolve to leave him. her heart breakin in the cab wasn't just for what she could've had with Jung Hyuk, but the end of everything -
found it very ironic that she chose to end her life, in the same place her mother abandoned her, when she was a kid - all alone...
