A good K-BL? In this economy?

“But the game isn’t about saving your favorite character. It seems the game is about saving yourself.” - tumblr user dropthedemiurge (thank you for the pain)
As soon as the first episode starts, you can already tell the efforts that went into it. My problem with K-BLs is that most of the time, everything is lacking : acting, story, cinematography, etc etc. But here, you start the first episode and you are met with quality. Good BGM, good camera work/ quality, interesting story and absolutely heart-stealing characters.
It has one of the quality barely other K-BL has : It uses its time wisely. The ending/ last episode does feel a little rushed, but the overall serie? It’s well paced, in my opinion. The story flows, they don’t add unnecessary plot they can’t give closure to.
Tae Myungha is one of my absolute favorite BL character, and probably one of my favorite character in general in a while. He transmigrates in a ‘video game’, and his mission / main quest if you will is to make Cha Yeowoon happy. The thing is, Myungha is such a genuinely nice person. Not only that, but he is also super bad ass. So we have a cutie, bad ass and a sweet heart on top of of that. He doesn’t judge anyone, he is caring and he is supportive.
It is not perfect, some things did confuse me a little. That being said, it is such a worth watch, in my opinion. I saw the ‘twist’ at the end coming, but it didn’t hurt any less. The drama started cute and sweet, then proceeded to destroy me and rebuild me. I already feel the need to rewatch it,

Great female characters, in this economy??

This drama may not be perfect, but it’s damn near perfection. I thought I wouldn’t love another xianxia drama this much after Love between fairy and devil, but I am happy I gave this a try because I am in LOVE. I need the OST on spotify like now. Sa Dingding, Mao Buyi and Liu Yuning… the OST can only be good

If you are like me and your guilty pleasures are : good girl falls in love with bad guy, bad girl falls in love with good guy…. This one is for you

First of all, this drama is absolutely hilarious. I laughed out loud so many times. Second of all, don’t come here believing the sisters will turn on each other, because they DON’T. Ever. Their love is too strong. It has great characters, and it has well written and bad ass female characters. You will fall in love with the leads. I thought I would hate the male leads, at first, but oh boy did they prove me wrong. Shaodian Youqin turned out the be the standard, setting the bar way too high. Anyways. It has great characters who have each other’s back and bring out the best out of each others. There’s is no stupid characters, they all have braincells. The romance is absolutely delicious. It has 40 episodes, and it doesn’t need more (besides maybe a little epilogue pls…) ; they manage to tell the story in the 40 episodes, without much filler. It has so many bad ass and satisfying moments. Seriously, I just need everyone to watch this drama.

Another bad korean BL...

I wanted to make this review because I am tired of seeing people say “people give low reviews because there’s no kiss/sex scene”. Maybe some did, but did you consider this : the drama isn’t good. I first want to clarify : while I do agree that it is annoying to have no kiss in a queer romance in 2023 (smells a little bit… homophobic), I can understand the decision to not include a kiss scene due to the actors being in the same kpop group. Which has an easy solution : do not cast idols/ group members in a TV show were they fall in love, maybe. Just a suggestion. I find it kinda icky. Mad respect to them though, still.

Now, the acting first : it was fine. They definitely had some chemistry, and the boys tried their best, I give them that. It’s an idol drama, so don’t expect groundbreaking acting, but don’t expect super bad acting either.

The editing : whoever edited that…. Fire them. Putting little music on dramatic scenes? Dramatic zoom out? Little drawing that you somehow only add once in the drama (= inconsistency)? No joke, it was almost impossible to take this drama seriously because of the goofy editing. I could’ve done a better job, and I don’t know shit about editing. Never has editing annoyed me THIS much in a drama, before. If you wanna be dramatic, commit to it. Funny? Commit to it. Otherwise it’s just goofy.

Okay, now the plot, or the worst thing that came out of this drama : the first 4 episodes are GOOD. Too good, because they gave me hope for the rest of the drama, as I am used to either drop/ or dislike KBLS. I don’t like the manhwa this is based on because I hated Taehyun’s character. My man bullies a schoolmate, accuses him falsely of SA, and he never has to say sorry? Is it okay because he has trauma? Then WTF is up with the three last episodes? This drama has one of the major problems MOST KBLS have : not enough length for the story they are trying to put out. Don’t add conflict you don’t know how to resolve in the remaining time. The last 3 episodes felt like I wasted my time. They could’ve used the epilogue to, idk, actually give us some closure. But no, instead we are left unsatisfied. Moral of the story : Dayeol deserved better. Another bad KBL to add to the never ending list.
