So first off, people need to stop being so woke and enjoy this for what it is, a fictional story. Yes, it had dark themes and hateful speech and bigotry. But not without reason. The reason? To show that someone’s strongly entrenched views CAN change with love and understanding. Type hated gays because he felt a victim of one (that was actually a pedophile). Because he never dealt with the trauma it colored his view on a whole group of people. Tharns patience and love showed him that a bad person or two in a group of people doesn’t make them all bad. It was a good parallel for Tar, who also was a victim of rape. Tar hated himself though, instead of a group (or men). This drama showed the emotional trauma and PTSD one can have from rape. Did the story treat it perfectly, and everyone’s reactions perfectly? No. But I think that that’s the point in the way. Nobody is going to go through a trauma like that and think politically correct on how they should respond. And the same for someone who is dealing with a loved one who has gone through that trauma. A lot of it is reactionary. Tharn didn’t always deal with Type the right way. Tars brother Tum did not always deal with him the right way either. But in the end their love and acceptance of that person is what helped heal them. The drama is not without some flaws, like stereotypes, and acceptance of things that are wrong. My major concern was the fact that Lhong was never held responsible in a legal way for his actions. But I’m sure that there’s a lot of people who do things like that that never have to pay for it lawfully. But in a way Lhong was in pain and the suffering he felt from losing Tharn forever. Sometimes this happens in real life too; we never really get to see the justice that we think someone should have to experience. Overall the chemistry between Tharn and Type, the theme of being a survivor, the genuine love, and the friendship of Type and No makes this a solid BL drama for me that I will watch again!
