Hi there,
I'm MaeLeaf, and I am on a forever quest to find good shows/movies related to all Asian cinema. If that sounds like fun, feel free to give a follow!! Enjoy your stay.
Top 5 Favorite KDramas:
Happiness (2020) -
(The best apocalyptic zombie show I've ever seen. The one show I watched with my sister, and it is her new favorite as well.)
Scarlet Heart Ryeo: Moon Lovers (2016)
(Whether you love it or hate it, Scarlet Heart Ryeo: Moon Lovers (2016) is a beautiful tragedy. Each scene is like a painting, and worth watching at least once.)
While You Were Sleeping (2016)
(The best lawyer drama I've seen. This show is a roller-coaster ride: you will laugh, you will cry, and maybe even have your jaw dropped at some of the plot-twists.)
(Guilty Pleasure) Mary Stayed Up All Night (2010)
(This show made me laugh a LOT. Also, I weirdly like the Bohemian Aesthetic this show has??? The characters feel like people I would meet in real life... It just makes me happy, so yep, it is in my top five)
Extraordinary You (2019)
(Another show where the production just blew me away. I do prefer the historical part of this drama more than the high-school setting, but I'm not complaining. This KDrama is BEAUTIFUL.)
Top 5 CDramas:
Reset (2022)
(The police interrogations weirdly is what made this CDrama stand out. There were times when I thought the main leads would never get out, and it is not related to the bomb on the bus. I was definitely at the edge of my seat!! The show that had me go, "OH MY GOSH, THE COPS ARE COMING. RUN!!")
Different Princess (2024)
(The chemistry between the main leads... Yeah, I think they are adorable and no one can talk me out of it...o-o)
One and Only (2020)
(Another Shakespearean kind of tragedy that I was fully on board for. The romance is VERY sweet, and the ending was well earned. I am for tragic endings if the story was leading to it, and One and Only (2020) achieved that. The score is wonderful too!!)
The Battle of Changsha (2014)
(One of the best heartfelt family dramas I've ever seen. Normally, I'm not big into family dramas, but every character in this drama is so sweet. This family will definitely get your heart strings by the end. Warning: Another tragedy that WILL make you cry... HARD)
The Legendary Life of Queen Lau (2022)
(THIS CDrama WILL DEFINITELY make you laugh. The main leads are WEIRDOS, and I love them.)
Top 5 JDramas:
Liar Game: Every Season and Movie (2007-2010)
(This series is pretty much a classic for the 'Death Game' genre at this point. I also appreciate the under-line philosophical look of humanity throughout the show. Do you want to tackle the topic of trust and betrayal? This is the show for you.)
Ashi Girl (2017)
(I like how this story is basically about a girl who is gifted at one thing, and finds her purpose in the most unusual way. Time-travel. )
Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (2010)
(My Fair Lady the JDrama. Weirdly, I think Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge is more heartfelt than My Fair Lad. I enjoyed how each of the male leads genuinely come to care about Sunako as the member of the household even if she doesn't fit into society's 'norms.' It is one big, weird, happy family, and I love it.)
Gokusen (2002)
(This is the weirdest, most heartfelt gangster/teacher drama I have ever seen. The hair in this... I'm speachless...o-o)
Burn the House Down (2023)
(I am amazed just how one arson can turn into a shocking family drama. Nagoni Mei and Suzuki Kyoka will both leave you at the edge of you seats. Totally recommend!!)
That's some of my favorites for now. I hope you enjoy your stay!!
