Low on angst, high on fluff (Just the way I like it)

I'm not going to write a full blown review for this, I just want to point out why I like this drama so much since it has mixed reviews. I rate this drama so high because it's low on angst, and high on fluff. We don't have the cliche plot with a love triangle, and we don't have the overly controlling parents. On top of that the female lead is smart, driven, quick witted, and loveable. The leads also have great chemistry. If you're someone who doesn't enjoy a lot of conflict, and likes more self/ relationship growth, this is the drama for you.

Firstly I would like to start by saying I have officially watched 13 episodes with subs, but have skimmed all episode without subs. Secondly I would like to add that I have come from watching Korean dramas, and recently branched out to Thai and Chinese shows in the last 6 months.

What I have come to notice when watching C-dramas is the lack of women being represented as strong or accomplished. They always seem to be so senseless, and honestly I can't handle watching female leads portrayed as stupid. This is just my personal experience though. However I can gladly say that the female lead is strong, sticks to her values, has clear goals, but at the same time is relatable and likeable. She is not easily manipulated allowing the audience to experience the great chemistry with the male lead, while also bringing light hearted moments. They feed off each other and it makes great viewing. They deliver the angst, the drama and the romance. The chemistry between the two main leads is incredible.

Not only do the leads have a great story and chemistry, but the supporting actors also deliver quality side stories and pairings. Most of the time when I watch a drama I either like the side story with the supporting actors, or the main leads story. With About Is Love, I'm equally invested in all 3 pairings and their individual stories. The chemistry between all the actors is stunning, and you can't not get invested in the story.

Though the overall theme of the show a CEO with OCD has been told many times, I think that the cast is what is really making this drama stand out and not be considered cliche. I have watched a few episodes of Want To See You Smile with the same themes of the male lead having OCD and unable to have physical contact with anyone, but I could never get into it. The chemistry between the actors wasn't there for me. The relationship of all the characters and the chemistry is really what makes "About is Love" great for me.

I have watched a few GMMTV shows in my time, however this one truly is exemplary; a work of art you could say. From the camera work, music, storyline, script, and acting, this is one of GMMTV's best productions.

Though the show does take a slow start with each of the cast getting an episode to explore their character, it is by no means boring. These episodes for each character not only let us connect with the character, but also lays out the ground work for later episodes. I'll let you know now, that as the series progressed; I was edging closer to the end of my seat. There was not a dull moment, and at no time were my eye's not glued to the screen. The music only added to the suspense making it that much more intense.

The acting of the cast is truly incredible. The stand outs for me were Gun and Chimon. Gun's character of Punn really does showcase his 10 years experience with the particular role he has taken on (I would elaborate but no spoilers), while Chimon was a complete slap in the face. I have seen him previously in other dramas, but I have never seen him take on such a serious character before with internal battles. His betrayal of intensity vs vulnerability was exquisite.

Chimon's and Nanon's acting complimented each other well as they played opposite each other a fair amount of time. Their real life friendship and chemistry definitely evident on screen; though they were actually at odds for a fair amount of the show.

Overall I can only sing high praises for the series, I hope more people choose to watch this show. GMMTV is known for their BL series and have a large BL fanbase, but I do hope more people take the time to explore their other shows. The Gifted is such a rare hidden gem that it makes me sad to think that so many people are missing out on such a show. I'm crossing my fingers for a season two since GMM left the ending open to a S2. Let's all wait and hope for the best.

As a watcher of many BL series I will admit this straight out, it's the greatest BL drama I have ever watched. Though many actors are new they are certainly not left behind by those faces we have seen in previous BL series. The most notable, Saint (Pete) and Perth (Ae), the two new acting faces who lead this drama. Their chemistry is undeniable on and off screen, providing viewers with all the "feels". On the other hand our second leads Mean (Tin) and Plan (Can), two faces you may be familiar with from BL series such as Make it Right, take on a more pivotal role in LBC. I won't deny that Mean (Tin) had me taken aback multiple times during intense discussion scenes with Plan (Can). I could literally hear the exact thoughts in his head by the expression on his face, and honestly I was crying inside for most of it.

Overall the story is realistic and genuine, providing us with various situations and events of those in amidst of a relationship. There is no "fantasy" as such, it doesn't skip over all the nitty gritty topics that those new to a relationship discuss, or situations they may encounter early on. For that I have a very deep respect for the script writers, producers and director. LBC goes beyond what is considered just a BL drama. They show us not only the dynamic of those in the relationship, but also the dynamic between their friends, and family, whilst attempting to endeavour on their journey of love.

To those who watch BL series on the regular, you cannot go past this one. For those who just want a good drama, add it on to your "Plan To Watch" list right now.

Unexpected Delight

What a fantastic fun watch! Honestly I looked up the drama previously and decided not watch it, but then I heard great reviews and decided to give it a go. Let's be honest, if you're into asian dramas, the whole cat to human transformation and love story has been done many times, however this is the first time I have seen it executed so well. Majority of time it's cringey and ridiculous, Make A Wish is an exception. The script writers and cast have pulled off what I always thought was impossible with this kind of story.

The acting was fabulous, the female lead embodied the identity of a cat in human form without going overboard. It was the small things that really stuck out, for example the positioning of her hands when she was sleeping, and the sudden change in her facial expressions at different things. For the male lead he was just as good as the female lead. There were scenes that were acted out so realistically towards different situations, it recalled my own experiences. I could relate to his response to different situations, as I have had the exact same response, or someone has had that response to me in a similar setting. Applause all round for the acting.

As for the pacing of this drama; it was perfect. I often have a hard time finishing c dramas due to either the length, or the pacing. I'm use to the kdrama setup of 16 eps. Anything over 16eps I tend to struggle with, however Make A Wish is an exception. It doesn't get laggy or drag at all, but it's also not overly fast paced. The script writer found the middle ground perfectly. I believe this drama has made it 4th on the list of C-dramas that I finished, and didn't fast forward scenes.

The only downfall of this drama is the antagonist. the story never truly explained/ explored why he did what he did. I mean they kind of drop lines that gives you an idea of why, but surely there has to be more to it than what is revealed. It's not a big issue to overlook. It doesn't change the fact that this was a sweet, yet somehow relatable drama. So fun to watch, I hope anyone who reads this wondering if it's worth their time shall give it a try.
