Hansu brought Sunja's mom to live with them in the countryside. Noa finds a friend to the disappointment of his brother. Hansu's amorous advances are rejected by Sunja. Solomon introduces Naomi to Sunja. Solomon's plans regarding Han's lot is progressing as he wants. The rice harvest is destroyed by a fire. Mr. Kim and Kyunghee give in to their mutual attraction. This episode is marked by its romantic angle, not just one pair but three. However, it maintains its avoidance of cheap sentiment, in turn maintaining the quality of its writing and acting.
Hansu and Mr Lim help Sunja and family pack then drive them out of the city. Noa watches bombs ravaging the city as their vehicle escapes to the countryside. Sunja, Kyung Hee and Mr, Kim work in the farm with other farmers while Noa and Mosazu raise chickens. Solomon and Naomi are forming a bond. The drama and visuals surrounding the escape from Osaka are both harrowing and spectacular. And the vehicle travelling from the war-torn city to the peaceful countryside has a salving effect on the audience, making us almost thankful for Hansu's interference. Mosazu's cheerful acceptance of their plight and his open admiration of Hansu's generosity add to the warm feeling of their new life.
Isak returns quite ill. He finds out who betrayed him and why. Noa and Mosazu spend touching momnemtn with their dad. Hansu provides a doctor for Isak in return for Sunja's promise that she going to the countryside with her family. Solomon finds a way to get back at Abe-san through Han Geum Ja's property. Air raid sirens wail while Sunja and family watch Isak's remains being cremated and they're dragged out of the crematorium. A heartbreaking episode as a truly good man gets to spend his last days with his loving family.
Han Su's face devoid of any expression is haunting, as he helps in Japanese war efforts. Sun Ja and Kyung Hee are having difficulty getting cabbage for their kimchi business. One of Sun Ja's customers is Mr. Kim, who seems to take a lot of interest in her family's condition. Solomon is facing his own challenges getting investors for his finance business. Little Noa is smart at school but does not apply himself. Cheeky little Mozasu is trying to fight off bullies in school. Solomon gets mad when he sees his grandma being bullied and comes to her rescue but humiliates himself with his outburst. Sun Ja gets into black market making rice wine illegally but gets caught and goes to jail. She is set free and is taken by Mr. Kim to meet her savior who turns out to be Han Su, Mr. Kim's employer. Han Su tells Sun Ja she and family need to escape to the countryside, but she refuses his offer telling him she can't leave her husband. He is incredulous and probably heartbroken (who knows, his face doesn't show any emotion) to find out she does love her husband.Best drama I've watched in a long while. Each scene is a work of art. The part where Sun Ja is making rice wine while bombs are exploding around her, with a beautiful but dolorous music in the background, elicited tears from my eyes without me being aware of how moved I was. She will do anything just to be able to feed her children wormless food. Solomon's outburst, blaming his grandma for being pitiful, is disturbing.
The ending is so poetic! It's a pleasant surprise to see such a non-saccharine ending in a Chinese drama. Not that Ihave problesm with saccharine endings, I prefer them to tragedy. But this ending is so approriate for the cool Xiao Duo and Bu Yin Lou.
XD's feelings for BYL are intensifying. Jealous XD makes up all sorts of excuses to confiscate Fu's lantern from BYL's residence. While BYL thinks XD is full of schemes and will probably torture her in the future, XD is thinking tender thoughts of her.
Per request from the prince, Xiao Duo saves Bu Yin Lou, starting a collusion between two intelligent individuals caught in a maelstrom of palace intrigues.
This episode promises a different kind of drama with atypical characters. The ML is cunning and coldhearted but calculatedly charming. The FL appears simple-minded but her wit shows she has more sense and brains than she lets on.The scene in Futuyuan with the tribute laides is shocking.
Introduces a different kind of female lead. Shu Yi is brilliant, ambitious and self-centered. She begs off having dinner with her boyfriend so she can score an interview with the mysterious CEO of a venture capital firm, Shi Yan.
