Heartbreaking and Beautiful

A film about heartbreak and loss . Serve the People, gets to the heart of relationships we can't see through. The couple is in love, but society and Communism take away any hope of a lasting relationship. Soo-ryeon is in a marriage of convenience, and leaving would likely lead to debt or death. Mu-gwang is a poor man who has never known the depths of respect until Soo-ryeon. He too is tied down by society's expectations. Their intense relationship is very short lived,. It is heartbreaking knowing the couple can never be together again and must endure their circumstances in order to survive in a harsh society. They both move forward, but there is forever a longing in their hearts and a question of "what if?" In the end, Mu-gwang seeks out Soo-ryeon, but she will not face him. Overcoming longing again would only cause more pain. If you can't relate to this drama, then you might one day. There is nothing like love lost and forever longing, and this film paints it beautifully.

Powerful Story for early 2000s

Coffee Prince seems a bit crazy at first - how could a man fall for someone he thinks is a guy? But the story is necessary because it teaches you to love people as they are.

The character of Chan Hoi Kyul comes to befriend Go Eun Chan, thinking she's a boy. Their friendship grows and eventually Chan Hoil Kyul, despite conflicting emotions, falls for her. One would think the truth could be revealed earlier, but the charade allows Chan Hoil Kyul to really consider her (his) worth as a person. He finally gives in, thinking even if it's a guy, these emotions are real. Considering social expectations, it's a risky move.

So many questions come up for the viewer - Why didn't he figure it out? Could that kind of desire come through despite a false premise? How might Go Eun Chan feel, considering her "love" has fallen for her (as a man)? But it all comes together and the truth is revealed - and it makes sense. You wonder HOW and the characters answer that quite well.

Such a powerful show for early 2000s that says a great deal about our focus on beauty and less on character. What if we all cared for others no matter their representation (focusing on their beauty within)?

Understanding Mental Illness on Many Levels

This drama really gets to the heart of mental illness, from the basic everyday adversities to the more challenging cases. No matter the example, it shows that we've all got challenges we have to overcome, and loving is the best way. The show does have a few too many examples, and so many within the circle, to illustrate, but each case makes you think and helps in showing that it can be overcome and that those affected should not be judged in society.

The cast is dynamic and the relationship between the ML and FL is on point! The character of Jo Dong-Min is so endearing and funny. His humor really lightens the mood at times. Jo Dong-Min's interaction with FL is powerful - teaching honesty in communication and feelings.

This is one of those dramas that sticks and has many life lessons. Watch with an intent to learn and grow and you'll love it!!
