Intrigued and not disappointed !
First of all, I watched this series after a long time without watching any Kbl and BL in general because the lack of budget in this field and the low quality series i had watched made me drop the genre for a while.
What was my surprise when I found out this series exist, and how much more surprising to see that this can actually be considered like real cinema !
The film direction and the editing are crazily great, i can’t remember the last time i watched a show with such great choices of shots and camera work ! I don’t think I know other works directed by this show’s director, but now i want to discover more because - WOW ! Fabulous job (especially the last episode) !
The storytelling is very interesting too, the way to share informations to the spectators in this series is mostly original, even when the plot is as complicated as this one, it works out perfectly and i must admit that the screenwriter did an awesome job to make this understandable AND enjoyable ! When you think you know what might happen, you just end even more enraptured in the story because it’s not what you expected but it works anyway.
Moreover, the characters personalities are not the plain old stuff we can watch in other Kbl, and that’s why this might be one of my favorite ! Not to mention the cast who delivered a fantastic performance during the whole show, overflowing of the right emotions every time needed !
The only shortcoming i could think of would be the musics used, that i think were either too deeply rooted in the infamous korean romcom style or just here to amplified the already established feelings of some scenes, when it didn’t really need to be.
I saw some comments mentioning a deus ex machina at the end, and though i can understand why they think the end might be coming out of nowhere, I think the kind of confusing setting and the whole video game trope allowed the diegesis of the story to have some resolution like the one a lot of viewers criticised so much. I mean, i don’t think we can even know the real truth of this ending because of the two different universe this series is including, and i might be wrong but i think it’s exactly what the director and the screenwriter wanted so I’m assuming this “deus ex machina” thing mentioned is actually the only reasonable ending we could have expected (if we wanted a happy ending that is).
Anyways, it feels so refreshing to see that this kind of quality stuff is possible even in a field that can’t have the same budget or the same amount of public as heterosexual content ! Good job on this one, I’m waiting for your next work director ! :)
