This is a funny one because while part of the story does take place in the human realm, the emperor's name is a combination of different empires. I think this is done intentionally so that the human realm can't accurately be placed during any specific dynasty.

viki translations use the term "states" here. I tried to find more information by looking up the states, but had a hard time. Please tell me more if you know. I thought maybe there were just noble house everyone is called something like a lord or lady instead of prince or princess, but it also feels very similar to royalty.
