i have no idea how yu zhenxuan and pei shouyi’s story ended but i think that their relationship was really interesting. yu zhenxuan is a really stereotypical autistic character at first with his L from Death Note way of sitting and his general affect, but i like how they don’t center his characterization on his extraordinary intelligence. they just intersperse it here and there and keep him human. i think the way that they separate his evident PTSD and trauma from his asperger’s is important because they’re not causal but also they clearly both affect him and make up important parts of his identity. but they’re not his WHOLE identity. like he sees the world in an absolutely beautiful and unique lens and i think that’s why pei shouyi is drawn to him despite his denial and inability to understand and distinguish his emotions due to his own APD. the attachment dynamics are a bit conflicting and im not sure i always understand what they’re trying to say about their respective neurodivergence, but they’re both really interesting and complex people with a fascinating relationship. i think i just wish there was more time for development in explanation rather than leaving a lot up to interpretation by using vague language and symbols because this can lead to misconstruation. overall i think it is done well because both of them have a variety of issues related to their disabilities but also related to other things like their environmental conditions, personalities, and emotional faculties.
