The new season of Moving is showing promising signs of production.
On September 18, industry insiders revealed that Disney+ is currently in detailed discussions with the creator of Moving, Kang Full. They also shared that the OTT platform is firm in producing season 2 of their hit original K-drama.
Disney+, which has experienced a decline of approximately 2 million subscribers, is actively contemplating the production of a second season of its highly successful K-drama, Moving.
The streaming platform is reportedly discussing an investment of over 50 billion won (approximately $37.7 million USD), which would be its largest investment in Korean content to date.
Moving is one of the most successful Disney+ releases since it launched in Korea. The original K-drama was popular in Korea and Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia.
The Disney+ original K-drama was led by Ryu Seung Ryong, Han Hyo Joo, Zo In Sung, Cha Tae Hyun, Ryu Seung Beom, Kim Sung Kyun, Lee Jung Ha, Go Youn Jung, Kim Do Hoon, and more.
It is the collaboration work of director Park In Je and writer Kang Full, who is also the creator of the webtoon on which the story is based.
After Moving ended, Disney+ subscribers started to decline.
Despite billions of won invested in original K-dramas like Uncle Samsik, Blood Free, The Tyrant, No Way Out: The Roulette, and more, Disney+ has been unable to continue the success of Moving.
This series of failures has resulted in a significant loss of subscribers, placing the streaming platform at the bottom of the list regarding monthly user numbers compared to competitors like Netflix, TVING, and Coupang Play.
In an effort to restore its reputation, Disney's Global Original TV president and CEO, Eric Schrier, has announced plans for a huge investment in Korean content. The second season of Moving appears to be the best candidate for this investment, with hopes of a turnaround.
