Currently Watching - Let's Eat
What is it about?
Let's Eat is TvN's latest Thursday airing drama that will definitely grip you from the first 10 minutes. Lee Soo Kyung is a 33-year-old divorced woman who goes crazy at the sight of delicious food- she physically cannot resist herself! When two new neighbors move in right next door to her, her life is suddenly full of both food, mystery and trouble.
The drama summed up in one sentence.. just kidding!
I started watching this drama because of Doojoon. When I heard he was going to be in a drama I instantly thought "I NEED to see this." Another thing that attracted me was- of course the food theme, however when I actually started watching the first episode, I was instantly drawn into the drama as a whole. Don't let the plain name ruin your chances of what could potentially be an amazing series!
One thing I highly advise before you start is make sure you're not hungry because this drama will make you want to grab the food out of your screen. This drama is foodporn at its finest. The food scenes look like they're from a commercial and the highly satisfied faces will add even more to your hunger.
"DAYYYM, this girl sure knows how to eat"
Characters
Lee Soo Kyung (Lee Soo Kyung) is our lead character who is a 33-year old single woman working at a law firm. She is very smart and has a very big passion for.. you guessed it- food! She first suspects Daeyoung because of his suspicious character but will her feelings ever change? She owns a cute dog, Barasshi who is always up to some sort of mischief.
Koo Dae Young (Doojoon) is a lazy yet smart character. When he is first introduced you will be reminded of a himono otoko (dried fish man from Hotaru no Hikari). He lays around in his jerseys surrounded by food and mess but when he goes out he not only dresses looking smart, but is quite clever, knowing his way around people and words. This man takes his gourmet food very seriously.
Here's our rich, clumsy girl, the 22 year old Yoon Jinyi (Yoon So Hee) who moved in next door due to her father being arrested. Although she seems like an unlikable character from the description I assure you that you will find her adorable!
Themes
Comedy
Sookyung's law firm workmates add a huge element of humor and I always enjoy watching their scenes. There is Lawyer Kim, who went to Soo Kyung's college years ago, perhaps he has a little crush on her?
Barasshi, who is always up to some sort of mischief, also makes me laugh. He's the adorable little dog that accompanies Soo Kyung in her lonely apartment. There's one track from the OST that is really hilarious, which you will understand when you watch the drama.
Romance
As for romance, not much has developed yet. Jinyi has already got a crush on her "jang-jang oppa" Daeyoung, who is helpful and caring towards her. I suspect Attorney Kim may start developing a crush on Soo Kyung- heck go for it! Im already starting to ship them together since he's quite attractive and funny. But what's up with Soo Kyung always being highly suspicious of Daeyoung all the time? Which leads me onto our next theme..
Mystery
At the end of each episode, there is a big clue to the main mystery case surrounding this drama. Who is the serial killer going around the neighborhood? You might not think food and mystery go together, but this truly gives it a twist and makes us think.. not everything is as it seems.
Why you should watch this drama
Well if you've seen the diversity of the drama from the themes above, then I don't know what's stopping you! This drama is about more than just food. It isn't slow-paced as there is always something happening, characters are also developing along with the plot. This is a great weekly drama to watch. With 16 episodes in total- we get 16 weeks (4 months) of this glorious drama. An episode airs every Thursday and helps you relax after a long day of work with some light-hearted comedy. The characters are really likable and will grow on you- even those who you didn't like at first. 8 episodes have aired, but it's not too late to catch up now..
Well what are you waiting for? Let's Eat!
