The Iron Empress (2009)

"Queen Woo" is an epic sageuk, with battles, power struggles, political factions and focused on the queen and her fight for power, just like "The Iron Empress".

Both are bittersweet stories about smart and hard-working female rulers (reigning queen Seonduk and dowager queen Chunchu) who loved their kingdom most of all. Both have lots of scheming and little romance (particulary little in QS)

Granddaughter of Wang Gun so Emperor Wang Gun drama is kind of a prequel and that makes The Iron Empress a sequel. Plus both shows are produced by the same TV network so you will also find some of the casts are in both show.

Chinese Period dramas are a class to there own , the story is great and when they include a love story in the mix with fast action fight scenes you cant go wrong :)

Both the lead actresses have some other life fantasy, and they get something else out of life. The inner court, society, family, and war field is a journey of thinking to establish a balanced state by passing/opposing all these. There are similarities in the story, I will not spoil the story by telling those similarities

More then anything, because of historical facts. if you got interested in historical events from Scarlet Heart, you should give it a try ( like I did). This drama takes time just after Gwangjong's reign, and starts with story of Gwangjong's son, Gyungjong. There're some more couple of characters that you will recognize from Scarlet Heart.. As well, all the tragedies start because of the battle for the throne...

Both dramas tell the story of a female character that is a queen (here) and an empress (Chun Chu) and Chae Si Ra in the title roles.

It's about the exact same era. Just featuring a focus on different historical people but essentially both try to keep true to the historical real events within Goryeo.
