Cute mediocre short drama! Kudos to filming during a pandemic

The last two episodes are... a whiplash of emotions that I didn't find greatly enjoyable. It's a cute, lighthearted K-drama showcasing a lot of mental illnesses, and domestic abuse. One of my favourite characters is Samantha, I was very worried with the first scenes (especially the older women's comments) but turned out alright.
The way it was filmed was cool, to make it seem 'intimate' even though for COVID restrictions they were standing and being quite far apart the whole duration of this drama. Which is not a bad thing! Seeing how to film through a pandemic is why I would recommend this. Even if I didn't personally agree with the ending, or how certain things were handled it has it's moments.

Doença mental de maneira leve e real

Mais de 24h depois de concluir este drama, sinto necessidade de escrever (muita) porque ele continua reverberando em mim e me causando muita reflexão. E se um drama me faz refletir suas questões por tanto tempo significa que ele é muito bom.
Então essa é minha primeira conclusão sobre "Mad for Each Other": é um drama muito bom. E isso é claro desde o primeiro episódio, que é hilário. Esta é a primeira grande sacada do roteiro: carregar na comédia no episódio inicial e assim criar conexão e empatia pelos protagonistas, afinal, como apresentar personagens com realidades tão difíceis? Se não fosse assim a história seria muito sombria pois doença mental não é um assunto divertido. A segunda grande sacada do roteiro foi unir comédia e doença mental de forma respeitosa. Em nenhum momento ela é caricata ou trata os personagens como idiotas. Não rimos deles mas das situações e como reagem à elas.
Depois disso somos apresentados à outros personagens interessantes, como Samantha, e divertidos, como as senhoras da associação de moradores, e vamos aos poucos conhecendo o passado de Min Kyung e Hwi Oh, entendendo suas dores e torcendo por eles.
E que casal improvável esse, não? (e por isso uma delícia de ver acontecer): o cara com problemas para administrar a raiva e a garota que mais o irrita. Pensando que em terapia uma das maneiras de superar uma situação é enfrentando-a, conviver com Min Kyung foi essencial para a recuperação de Hwi Oh já que ele não podia estourar com ela o tempo todo, especialmente pq ao conhecê-la entendeu que o problema dela era medo de outras pessoas por não conseguir confiar nelas.
É muito bonito de ver a conexão que eles vão criando aos poucos, a confiança que ela vai adquirindo nele e o controle que ele tem com ela, e como essa afinidade vira amizade e então amor, e como esse amor vai ajudando a colar os pedacinhos de cada um e a gente vai acompanhando este caminho de cura de ambos.
Aí chegamos na terceira grande sacada (e talvez a mais difícil de entender) do roteiro: tratar de doença mental de forma real, mostrando que a cura não é linear e que o amor alivia as dores, mas não cura totalmente.
E isso é muito evidente (mas não totalmente perceptível) na Min Kyung nos dois episódios finais. Já estamos tão envolvidos pelo romance e torcendo pelo casal que quando depois de uma série de mal-entendidos e um incidente ela não quer mais Hwi Oh por perto a primeira reação do espectador é de decepção, porque a gente está acostumado com "o amor resolve tudo" e fica sem entender como ela até começou a temê-lo. Mas pessoas com problemas de confiança causada por um trauma levam anos para acreditar em alguém e qualquer coisa pode fazer tudo ruir. No final ela até diz que não consegue viver nem amar de maneira normal pq ela sente medo o tempo todo. Mas a gente sabe que ela o ama e eles continuam juntos mesmo que ela se distancie um pouco e a cena final é uma prova disso.
Conseguindo entender isto posso dizer que o final foi coerente, mesmo não sendo (ainda) o feliz para sempre. Assim até aumentei minha nota aqui de 9 para 9,5. Só não foi 10 pq houve uns deslizes no roteiro nos 4 episódios finais que não vou escrever aqui pois o texto já está longo.
Não assisti a outros dramas sobre o tema mas não sei se existe outro que trate do assunto de maneira tão aberta, e isso é louvável pois doença mental ainda é um assunto tabu mesmo em pleno século XXI e carrega muito estigma, vide uma série de comentários que li sobre o comportamento dos personagens, principalmente da personagem feminina, que mostra o quanto o tema é carregado de preconceito ainda mais quando associado à mulher.

Sabe quando se encontra algo que não estava procurando, mas se torna necessário? Foi o que aconteceu quando de repente ouvi falar sobre ele e decidi ver. Confesso que comecei pela comédia sem muita expectativa, mas levei uma bela sacudida pelos temas que mesmo vendo dorama há oito anos, eu não esperava.

Aborda temas como, saúde mental, preconceito por fazer tratamento psiquiátrico, questões de gênero, relacionamento tóxico, violência doméstica, mesmo assim, por vezes foi de forma leve e equilibrada com humor. Tudo em treze episódios de mais ou menos trinta minutos cada.

O Noh Hwi Oh é muito irritadinho, mas muito íntegro em suas convicções e carácter. Amava como tratava com naturalidade a Samantha, uma pessoa do mesmo prédio que se transveste. A Lee Min Kyung é paranoica, mas com razão, o ex era um doido e sabe o que é pior? Há pessoas assim na vida real que estão por aí fazendo alguém de vítima e sentido que tem razão de fazer isso.

Não vi pontos negativos, até gostei de ser curto, sem chance para enrolação e mesmo com a comédia e tudo, muitas vezes me vi como Min Kyung, como mulher entendo a sensação de falta de segurança.

Amei a última cena dos Hwi Oh juntos, tão parecidos esperando sua dona, muito fofo.

Enfim, com certeza é um dos melhores na forma de abordar temas tão fortes de forma realista e com toque de humor. De certa forma deixou claro que um não era cura do outro e que suas lutas internas eram individuais e continuarão ao longo de suas vidas. Não esperava que teria tantos tabus sendo confrontados e todos esses temas em um dorama curto, não me arrependo de ter o visto.

Hwi Oh e Min Kyung se encontram na rua por acaso e começam com os dois pés esquerdos quando a Min Kyung acha que ele é um pervertido que a está seguindo, mas é só um mal entendido, pois os dois moram no mesmo prédio.

Hwi Oh tem problemas para controlar a raiva e Min Kyung é incapaz de confiar nas pessoas ao seu redor. No entanto, por mais que ambos não queiram, são sempre colocados juntos por alguma casualidade, e uma delas é quando aparece um verdadeiro pervertido no bairro e a Associação de Mulheres decide patrulhar as ruas da vizinhança para ver se conseguem prender o dito cujo que anda amendrontando as moradoras.

Conforme os episódios vão passando, descobrimos com o que cada personagem está lidando de acordo com as consultas no psicólogo. Achei o máximo inserirem esse fato no enredo, já que coreanos são tão avessos à tratamentos psiquiátricos. E digo que fiquei muito surpresa, pois não imaginei que iria ser algo tão profundo para ambos.

Hwi Oh era um detetive da divisão de crimes violentos que após uma decisão impensada coloca a prória segurança e de seus colegas em risco. No entanto, ele tem certeza que a falha na emboscada não foi sua culpa, há algo mais profundo na situação. E por isso é afastado de seu cargo.

O que levou Min Kyung a não se conseguir se livrar de rotinas compulsórias foi algo que me atingiu muito. Ao ser maninpulada por um cara, acaba caindo numa teia de chantagens enorme por quem achava que podia confiar e não consegue se livrar disso. Acho que qualquer mulher que assistir esse drama vai se sentir condoida por ela.

Cada episódio ter um título e amo isso, torna a trama mais interessante de ser acompanhada. A atuação é brilhante, e mesmo que eu nunca tenha visto os atores antes em algum drama coreano, é bom saber que ainda existem muitos bons atores para conhecer.

Amo casais briguentos, e é uma briga tão boa! Os dois são engraçados, trocando farpas por coisas bobas, sendo que é isso que eles precisam para se aproximarem.

A mãe de Hwi Oh semre o incentiva para que ele case, mas ele passou por algo traumatizante no passado após o afastamento do emprego. Mas com a chegada da Min Kyung e a preocupação sincera por ela, os sentimentos de ambos mudam.

O elenco não é muito vasto, mas é interessante no ponto certo. Temos a participação da linda Lee So Hyun, mas conhecida como a vocalista principal do AKMU, também temos diversidade com a atuação de Ahn Woo Yeon e uma Associação de Mulheres que mais fofocam do que qualquer outra coisa, mas nos proporcionam bons momentos divertidos.

A roteirista Ah Kyung estreiou muito bem. Não conseguiria achar um roteiro tão bem escrito e com temas importantes que eu gostaria que estivesse disponível numa plataforma como a Netflix. E ainda mais que tenha estreiado com dublagem.

Esses dois merecem o mundo, são super fofos e quando estão em um relacionamento ficam ainda melhores. Adorei esse drama do começo ao final, e não me canso de revê-lo.

Com episódios de 30 minutos de duração, Loucos Um Pelo Outros é aquele drama para ver sem se cansar, com um romance clichê, boa dose de farpas, comédia e um final de fazer o coração transbordar.

Such a lovly romcom

I was surprised by this series. I found it exciting and the main actors were a very good match.
I love the actress Oh Yeon Seo.
I have seen Jung Woo for the first time. He ist lovly.
It was so compassionate when he had tears in his eyes. I almost cried with him.
But in the last episode, I didn't understand why Lee Min Kyung was away??
The ending was a little poor. I was expecting a greeting kiss.
The dog was cute.
Does anybody know another show with animals who play in?
I love animals. But I actually doesn't know a show.

Good Enough

Korean Drama " Mad For Each Other " is a short drama that manages to pack in not only romance and comedy, but also deeper issues that were all well explored.

The story starts on a comical note, as the viewer gets to know who's who, and the two main characters get into one misunderstanding after the other. In that beginning, the male lead is more likable and gets the biggest part of sympathy, as the female lead acts, well, crazy. But, as the story gets revealed, slowly but steadily, everyone's actions are justified and the story turns more dramatic, enhancing into issues like dating violence, family dynamics and relationships, even gender identity. And even though the drama is short in length, everything is blended nicely and even the romance gets a smooth pacing.

As for the performances, everyone did a great job with their characters and even the side characters were enjoyable.

So, overall, eight out of ten, because the ending was a bit cliche.

O drama nos faz dar umas boas risadas no começo, mas depois vai esfriando o lado cômico. O que acontece em muitos dramas de comédia romântica onde o início é super engraçado e depois vai esfriando o lado cômico. Além disso, o drama sofre de um problema muito comum nas comédias românticas ultimamente (no mundo da doramaland) um suspense que só está ali para fazer figura porque também não é desenvolvido. Inclusive se resolve facilmente no último episódio. Apesar de ter uma justificativa plausível para fazer parte do enredo já que o protagonista masculino é policial e também a protagonista feminina tem um passado como vítima de violência doméstica. Mas ainda assim, parece que é preciso que tenha um suspense para uma comédia romântica poder acontecer hoje em dia, enfim.

Mas apesar disso é um drama legal. Não chega a ser inesquecível mas também não é ruim. A química do casal de protagonistas é boa e a história também tem boas sacadas. Gostei da ideia dos dois estarem fazendo terapia e como eles evoluíram em suas jornadas individuais de autoconhecimento e como foram se ajudando nesse processo de cura. Foi a parte mais legal do drama.

The main weakness of the story is that the main characters are not well paid, Especially Hwi. Hwi in the first episode is a psychotic character who does not have a good life situation; a pitiful character who is supposed to be next to the female main character. But all of a sudden, in the later episodes, he turns into a calm and pleasant character who has good control over his behavior. It seems that the process of these two returning to normal life and becoming interested in each other should have been a little more complicated.
Honestly, considering the rating , I expected more. It was low in terms of realism and believability. For example, the neighbors slandered Ming Kyung and quickly realized their mistake! and similar cases.
The secondary characters are more pleasant, especially the women's association and In Ja. Baek Ji Won with his charismatic personality makes the audience interested in continuing to watch.

Perhaps the 2nd best K-drama of 2021.

I was very much looking forward to this and had actually been impatiently awaiting it's premiere ever since the cast was announced. The first couple of episodes I did enjoy but as it progressed I found myself loving it more and more.

Oh Yeon Seo is my favourite actress and she did not let me down with this drama comeback of hers. Her performance (as always) was incredible. She brought so much power and emotion to the character of Lee Min Kyung, in a way I think no other actress could.

I loved Jung Woo in Reply 1994 so I was interested in seeing him paired up with my girl and I have to say they exceeded my expectations. At first I wasn't sure how romance would be tied in as the beginning episodes mostly contained hysterical arguments between the two with no suggestion of anything else, but by episode 5 their beautiful development began and not only was their chemistry evident AND outstanding but their story itself was pure warmth for the heart. It’s a perfect romcom, but it also manages to bring characters with tragic pasts together with a healing outcome.

Funny & Touching Kdrama About Healing

This drama was not on my radar at all and I only heard about it from seeing a clip of episode 1 on Youtube. I finally gave it a try recently and the drama really surprised me. The drama poster gives a comedic vibe but the drama has some really great touching scenes about mental health and issues in society. The comedic scenes definitely helped pull me in at the beginning because it gave me a great laugh but it was the characters' story and relationships that later kept me going. The main characters' backstory and pain made me understand why they have become the way they are. Min Kyung and Hwi Oh are also a cute couple as you keep watching. They are funny and relatable.

The chemistry between the leads also surprised me because I did not expect to like the two together but they are actually a good pair together as I kept watching. There are so many good scenes of them interacting, but my favorite was when he bought her a new pair of sunglasses so she would look at the world more happily. I believe this has a double meaning because our perspective of the world can really change how you feel and I think that was a message of those sunglasses. Min Kyung was slowly learning to trust people, starting with the sunglasses. I love how realistic the writing was about their relationship as well. It would be impossible for Min Kyung to completely trust others and that is why she had the argument with Hwi Oh about that misunderstanding. It was great seeing Hwi Oh change as he fell in love with Min Kyung as well.

The conflicts in this drama were carried out nicely. The argument between Hwi Oh and Min Kyung made complete sense and the villains' motives made sense. There was a purpose in their actions, even though it was so hateable. The script was also written well for 13 episodes with each episode lasting around 35 minutes. It flowed smoothly and I loved how we saw the characters grow. I didn't feel like there were any filler scenes except for the parts with the convenience store part-timer. I felt that her storyline was unnecessary and did not have any role except to fill up some space. It would have been much better to leave her out of it.

So much potential

This was so good for 12.5 episodes. The chemistry between the leads was good and the back stories were good. There was not a lot 2nd lead action, but it was a cute story. The comedy was good, it had a few annoying side characters, but they were tolerable.

Then the story shit it's pants, with a ridiculous plot twist that left so many loose endings and so much potential on the cutting room floor. Why do these writers do this, do they think it's cute, are they hoping for a second season or there some cultural masochism that eludes me. There are so many things I would like to have seen tied up, but I won't spoil it for you. It's still a good watch, I binged it all the way through.

I was going to rate this at least an 8.5, but I ended up at a generous 7.5 because the beginning was so good. If you want to be happy, stop at the last kiss; you should know it when you see it.

A comedy that was more than a comedy

I picked this show because it broke the kdrama tradition of being 16 episodes ninety minutes long. It was a rather swift show but one that nonetheless delivered a deeply moving story.

The story of two mentally troubled people living next door to each other with all the comedic encounters set the tone early for what our lead pair - and the town they lived in - were like. Lee Min-Kyung suffered from OCD and an extreme anxiety that meant she had difficulty trusting anything and anyone. Hwi-oh's anger issues was what landed him in therapy and the way these two interacted early on *through* their mental illness was done really well; this is a comedy show but it didn't insult people's mental illness. It was funny without being disrespectful.

As the story progresses, the comedy becomes less prominent and you understand why it has to: the backstories of both Min-Kyung and Hwi-oh make it difficult for the show to remain completely light-hearted, especially where it concerns the abuse Min-Kyung went through. As the show progresses, her ordeal tells a good story of what it is like for women in abusive relationships, the fear of trusting again. Her relationship with Hwi-oh was done organically, built over a gradual trust sprung from his genuine decency and devotion to keeping her safe and happy. The way they first kissed sort of alluded to that; she is totally fine sleeping with him around because she trusts him. Because he listens to her, because he believes her.

Which is what this show is really all about. It's about Min-Kyung needing someone to believe her, to give her that feeling of safety and reassurance her ex-partner took from her. Throughout the show she struggles for that, but finds it in Hwi-oh. We see the importance of why believing her is better than not. The show tells a good message there; sometimes in a relationship, what's not important is whether your partner is right or not but whether they think you believe them or not.

Hwi-oh in turn finds something in his life he can now lose, and it puts him always on the verge of erupting, of reverting. She thinks she's broken him, but the beauty of the show is how they both subliminally helped each other grow and heal a lot, but the final part of the recovery needed to be done by themselves.

The last episode was a little rushed in that some of the subplots seemed wrapped up too quickly - maybe that's the drawback of being a short series, but I enjoyed this show a lot. It was sold by the terrific acting, particularly on Oh Yeon-Seo's part. I feel like this is a feel-good show I can return to a lot and still enjoy it.
