GOOD LORD?

I wanted to love this I really did...but what accuarly happened in the two episodes...nothing...nothing happened...well of cause except them saying they love each other 10 billion and 1 times and then kissing 10 billion and 2 times....wasn't a fun of the series wanted to give this a chance...was even worse...well I appreciate the winnysatang moment but not even them could save this...
Am really hoping Hidden gender saves joongdunk...their chemistry is good they just need a better plot...
Anyway am glad the era of kluendiao and star in my mind is over...no offense ofcause

Disappointed

First, Joongdunk is one of my most favorite BL couples. They are both very handsome and talented. But the story was so bad that even they couldn’t save it. I will say that GMM always shoots in beautiful locations and has high quality visuals. But, at times, I was embarrassed for the actors because it was so awkward. There was no substantial story and the dialogue was just cheesy. And not in a good way. This seemed so forced like the writers just wrote something quick so they could be included in this series. It wasn’t fair to the whole cast. Thankfully, they have Hidden Agenda coming up and it looks promising.

The worst of the 8

This is hands-down the worst of the 8 stories. Was there even a story? 2 episodes of nothing except I-love-yous, and I've never sped through a series as fast as this, my finger constantly on the forward button. It says a lot when I actually preferred watching their friends than the intimate moments the lead couple had, all of which were mushy, vacuous and superficial. But this was probably because the source story had nothing to begin with either. The scriptwriter here inherited nothing to even have anything of a narrative arc. And Dunk, with his limited acting chops and mediocre looks, will likely not go much further in this industry. At least Archen has looks to carry off as a leading man, if he gets better roles.

Sickly, Stupidly Saccharine (in a good way!)

My own rating references for context:
1-3 stars - This needs some major reworking
3-5 stars - Not the worst, but not to my taste
5-7 stars - Pretty solidly okay (could use improvements, but not terrible)
7-9 stars - We have a great thing here
10 stars - Please don't change anything, it's glorious!

Story/Plot: 6.5 stars
"Star in My Mind" was already a fluffy and sweet series to begin with, and if the audience expected anything else from these special episodes, I'm not entirely certain what information they received that gave them a different impression (since the exact same crew worked worked on the series and these episodes). We get to see Khabkluen (Kleun) and Daonuea (Nuea) going on two years in their relationship, and everything is as cute as a button between the two of them - Kleun won't stop spouting his love for Nuea in public or private, Nuea still loves having Kleun model for him, and the two of them are looking forward to their future together. It was nice to see the maturity of their relationship in the communications department, seeing as how their series was originally based on the distinct lack of communication between Kleun and Nuea. We get Kleun's delivery of the cliche line "I'm making up for lost time" when asked why he insists on saying "I love you" so much, as well as Nuea's beautiful "Just thinking about getting jealous already means I'm not trusting you, right?" to drive home how well they've learned to communicate with one another. Additionally, I'm always a fan of consent scenes - a long-term relationship can still have romantic moments, and romance and consent are not mutually exclusive. Kleun's "Can I kiss you?" and Nuea's soft response "Of course" was probably my favorite scene across both episodes.

Acting/Cast: 7.5 stars
Across the board, it's hard to say that GMMTV has any bad actors per say, but some definitely outshine others. Joong is one of the outstanding stars at GMMTV, and it really boils down to his ability to silently act with his eyes and facial features to deliver micro-expressions that make his characters come to life. I will concede that it helps that he was blessed with beautiful features to begin with, but it's very impressive how well he uses what he was given. The slight misfortune is that Dunk has to compete with Joong, because everyone naturally compares actors in scenes together and even more so if they are a ship (you really need both actors to sell their half of the ship in order for their characters' relationship to be believable, after all). Dunk has less experience in the acting business than Joong, so there's boundless opportunities for him to continue climbing; Joong is such a good friend and scene partner already, I'm excited to see them continue to grow together. With all of that said, I will also add that Dunk's hair stylist is not doing him any favors at all - the boy needs less bangs falling in front of his eyes! Joong has naturally massive (gorgeous!) eyes which help with capturing his eye movements and micro-expressions, and Dunk doesn't have that in his acting arsenal, so having Dunk's hair constantly in front of or shading his eyes make it harder to see any of his expressions.

Music: 9 stars
I have yet to find myself disliking an OST written by Boy Sompob, because his music is simple, catchy, and perfectly emotive of the series they have been a part of. Joong sings the majority of it, though Dunk has more parts in this OST than the previous "Star in My Mind" OST, and they both delivered a beautiful performance of it. Throughout the episodes, Director New employed his classic tactic of acapella-start-of-the-OST-chorus-at-the-beginning-of-a-touching-scene-and-then-have-the-background-instruments-come-in-to-close-out-the-scene, and as basic of a tactic as it is, it works very well to help sell sweet moments. The MV that was released a couple of days ahead of the episodes can be found here: https://youtu.be/mEiWEewQZbw.

Rewatch Value: 1 star
I would technically give this 0 stars, and not because it was a bad watch at all - there just wasn't anything substantial enough to grab my attention and remain rooted in my mind to encourage a rewatch. In all honesty, I think the only part I rewatched multiple times in the moment was Joong's surprise English line of "Can I kiss you?" along with Dunk's even-more-surprising English response of "Of course". Their English delivery was a beautiful surprise, made all the more delicious that they have beautiful lower registers when they speak English softly, and it was a romantic consent moment!

Just thinking about getting jealous already means I'm not trusting you, right?

This really feels like two episodes of fluff. And I am not complaining. Even their special episode was pretty much all fluff. But it suits Kluen and Dao, the two are permanently stuck in the honeymoon phase of their relationship. At least it seems so.

I do admit that I got a lot of Sarawat and Tine vibes from Kluen and Dao. Especially when Kluen introduces himself as Dao’s boyfriend, making the other boy flustered. Or when they are washing their faces in the bathroom and end up pressing their cheeks together. Some might find that annoying, but I found it cute. We all know that GMMTV often squeezes in little references and nods to their other series like that.

Another thing that I absolutely love about their relationship is how they handle jealousy. When you trust someone completely and you know they only have eyes for you, there is absolutely no reason to feel jealous when they are talking with someone else. We are not talking about flirting here, just having a simple conversation with someone.

I feel like we are getting spoiled by new side couples in Our Skyy 2. To be honest, I am really happy that Typhoon is one of the characters that gets someone. He is a very lovely person who cares a lot about those around him, so it’s only fair that he gets his own special person. I am not sure how I feel about the other new pairing. I love the two actors together (who doesn’t?) but I really imagined a different pairing. I also think that not pairing them together would make more sense story-wise.

I like that the overall vibe of the series, the colors, the setting, etc. were kept the same. It really makes it feel like a continuation of the main series. I feel like this is even more obvious if we compare the Star in My Heart episodes to the Never Let Me Go episodes. They are very different from one another, yet so true to the original series.

a fluffy follow up

Overall: if you are looking for a fluffy slice of life special episode/s then look no further. Aired on GMMTVs YouTube channel.

What I Liked
- sweet moments
- flipped a common trope around
- great communication, character growth from their series
- (neutral) there was lip movement with kissing but it didn't rise to the level of excellent kissing

Room For Improvement
- oddly reluctant PDA/physical affection for an established couple, also unrealistic that was their first time in a year?!?
- could have had more plot for side characters

My review for each section of this series is based on the following criteria:
- Did it add anything to the original series
- Was there either an absence, advance, or regression of character/couple development
- Was the story concept interesting
- Script quality

This had a cute storyline (like the main series), but it’s basically two episodes full of nothing. Yes, it was sweet and fluffy but it doesn’t add that much to the main storyline. I had trouble getting into it because of some weird/poor direction choices. There were some parts that had long and awkward pauses between the actors’ lines and actions. I think the actors did a good job but may not seem it due to this. The end was also cute but does not lead to much character/couple development. It also had a very boring side story that was not needed. The background music choices were great and it had good cinematograph.

Although this doesn't seem like it has much going on besides Kluen and Dao being cute and loving each other, it surprisingly delivers some good lines that I never found in other BL. I also likes them just being lovely with each other since after they get together, their relationships looks very healthy. This is further proved by Dao trusting Kluen even when teased by his friend (and good that he returns it to them by way of acting jealous). The surprise at the end also makes me very giddy!

Overall it's good for binge watch especially when you're feeling down and need extra sugar to boost your mood.

Perfect Chemistry

Our Skyy 2: Star in My Mind is an interesting case of the special episodes being way better than the series itself. The plot, while simple, managed to correct some of the series' mistakes. For instance, the supporting characters now have their own stories and relationships -- Typhoon got his happy ending, and the other friends had things to care about aside from Dao and Kluen's relationship.

Another highlight of the episodes was the important message about jealousy. In many BL series, jealousy is presented as hot, but it is not -- being jealous of your partner means that you are insecure in your relationship with them. It was so great to see Dao underscore this.

Most importantly, Joong and Dunk have more chemistry than a Chemistry textbook. If in Star in My Mind they had good chemistry, here it is through the roof. They are one of the few on-screen pairings -- not only in BL, but in movies and series in general -- whose characters I can genuinely believe love each other, are in a relationship, and have slept together.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by these two episodes. Even those of you who did not enjoy the series much might like them.
