met me at the wrong time
i liked it to some extent. great casting, sometimes the plot was too much for me in the aspect of keeping up my interest. jj and tor are pairing i did not expect but they made it work somehow. normally this kind of show is right up my alley, sadly it didn’t fully klick with me this time. my focus and taste lies somewhere else these days, although i think that they portrayed a very important topic and showed the conflicts you can have with euthanasia. maybe i will revisit spare me your mercy one day.Cet avis était-il utile?

Not bad, just bland
In the world of Sammon related series, which now I’ve watched 6, Spare Me Your Mercy is better than DFF or Bite Me, but it’s no Manner of Death. Its biggest flaw is maybe being the most boring one, even with just 8 episodes. The cast is by far the best part about this series. JJ and Tor were the perfect choice for Tew and Kan. Their individual scenes and most non-romantic scenes together were always great.
But I feel like the script got in the way of the scenes where we needed romance/feelings. The romance feels extremely rushed and forced. It could’ve worked in a plot where every move had second intentions. Which maybe was the idea, but not with a great execution. It’s a bland cat and mouse dynamic. No one is ever two step ahead. I never understood if Tew was too gullible, stupid or just pretending to believe everything Kan was saying. Tew caught Kan in lies several times, but always turned around and came back to Kan. So I have to say he’s half gullible and half stupid.
Unfortunately, by the end I feel like Spare Me Your Mercy is basically a watered down version of Sammon’s very own MoD or the sublime HIStory Trapped. It kinda would make more sense, since I never really believed their true love, for Kan to never confess and the couple to end up apart.
I’m really curious to read a Sammon story and find out if her endings are all super rushed as in the adaptations or the shows she acts as a screenwriter.

Quite a surprise
I’m not going to write some crazy in depth review like a ton of people do for these shows. I’m simply just going to review this on my emotions and how I felt watching this. Personally I am not really a fan of mystery mixed with BL. I am the stereotypical BL lover meaning I love the high school, college and office drama. Given that I have seen almost every BL on Viki and IQIYI, I was just seething for something else to watch. It took my a good thirty minutes to decide if this title is going to be worth my time. But I ended up giving it a shot. So far, the chemistry between the two mains is so/so. I feel the connection they have, but it’s just been such a slow burn which I love and hate, considering the fact that I just binged the first five episodes and now have to wait to see the rest. I was not expecting to love the mystery aspect of this. I think the cliff hangers and the not knowing is really hooking me onto this. Well that and just the face that the mains are such eye candy, I’m dying for them to get together. But they are playing this mystery off so well, like I could even tell you what is going to happen next. I also really like the idea of how they are using such a controversial topic as the main hook for the series. It’s risky in the public eye, but they have done it so well. I really would recommend this series, and please pray I don’t loose it before the next episode comes out, the stupid preview for episode six has really got me going crazy.Cet avis était-il utile?
Is this a bl?
This is a very intense show. Very well written and the actors are pretty good. I just finished episode 4 and moving on to episode 5. I’m having a hard time believing that this is a bl. I see nothing other than one character saying they like the other in the first episode. There’s been no real hugging or kissing or even any longing. The characters are not really thinking about each other when they are not together. I just don’t see it. (Maybe love will happen in the last episode) This is super good as a suspense. It really keeps you on your toes and guessing. But a love story, nah!Cet avis était-il utile?

BL baiting at its worst
BL baiting at its worst. It's hard for me to be kind towards this series which took a serious subject and minimalised it. The avoidance of the romance made the final concoction even worse, because the inherent conflict of love and death is the stuff of the real world. In the end, the creatives wimped the story into a simplistic crime story. Saving the characters' struggle with the ethics of euthanasia to one scene at the end only made the whole thing worse. The actors were good and deserve a better vehicle for their smouldering good looks and physical attraction.Cet avis était-il utile?
