One of the Most Entertaining Thrillers in 2024!
As the curtains close on Spare Me Your Mercy, the Thai BL series delivers a poignant exploration of morality, love, and loss. Adapted from Sammon’s novel Euthanasia, this melancholic drama probes the fine line between compassion and crime, framed by a chilling mystery involving rising deaths among terminally ill patients. Starring Tor Thanapob as Dr. “Kan” Kantaphat and JJ Krissanapoom as Police Major “Thiu” Wasan Khambunrueang, the series challenges viewers to grapple with the ethical complexities of life and death. The show opens with a gripping investigation into stolen potassium chloride from a local hospital, setting the stage for a tightly woven web of suspicion. Potential culprits emerge, including Nurse Onanong (Fresh Arisara Wongchalee), Pharmacist Boss Chanchai (Aelm Bhumibhat Thavornsiri), Dr. Rin (Prim Atchareeya Potipipittanakorn), and Hospital Director Somsak (Gandhi Wasuwitchayagit).

tor... you are an acTOR alright
overall, that was a satisfying story and has an ending that makes sense. for a show that highlights euthanasia, i like that they presented different people's views and perspectives on it and just let the audience know what they feel about it. it did not feel preachy at all. this is my first time watching tor who played dr. kan and i gotta say, that man can act oh my gosh. he was able to portray this compassionate doctor but in a blink of an eye, could turn into someone so sinister. his performance in the last episode was one of the best ones i've seen from thai media (not that i've seen a lot, i don't think) and even made me tear up. his chemistry with jj was great. with romance as a supporting narrative only here, their chemistry is still palpable. i wish it was developed more but i guess, they did the best they can with only 8 eps. there were times where the investigation and police scenes made me roll my eyes but hey, that's not really something new in fiction stories like this and it's not a crime series so it's fine. as a psychological thriller, i think this one did it successfully.(it does make think.... do i really want to have the option of euthanasia for myself too or that's that me be being depresso idk... no really, i want it lol)

Law vs. Love
Oh! This was a good series! I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did because I approach these shows free from everything, ignoring what everybody says and forming my own opinion about it, as sometimes I can get disappointed when people call a series a masterpiece and then...it's not. This was not the case. The series drew me in from the beginning with the storyline and the amazing actors. The chemistry was felt from the two main actors from the get-go, and it wasn't cheesy as seen in most of the Thai BL's. I was more flabbergasted and awestruck by the flirting, if I must say so. It had me getting little jolts of surprises here and there (especially in episode three with two of the supporting characters), and if you can do that, then you know that the series is good.
The funny thing is before them telling me WHO was doing the murders (when you can tell it was not the doctor), I already figured it out. Usually that's something that turns me off, as there really is no more mystery left. But here in this series, the way that they showed us how it was this individual was unique, I guess, as it still was able to keep me here. I also wanted to know the personal reason for doing these murders. Only one thing passed me, and it was one of the supporting characters and who she really was in the story. And that was one of the plus things for me, as sometimes I am confused in these mystery dramas and don't know who did it until the end when I am being told who it was.
Now, it was the last episode that really got to me. I actually thought that Kan was going to get away with it and live happily ever after with Thiu. But this was not the case as Thiu finds out the truth and, of course, chooses the law over their love story. I will say that while I do understand, it surprised me a bit, as I thought it would have ended another way—and that's why I am impressed with this series.
It was neatly told in eight episodes and had me on the edge of my seat for each episode. If you are looking for something different with a great storyline and great actors, I suggest that you watch this.

not a BL
first WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ENDING?! I knew there were only 8 episodes and still I kept hitting next because SURELY THAT IS NOT THE END.and yet- it fits. an ending as gray and ambiguous as the heart of the story. (but that didn’t stop me from knocking my rating down half a point from a solid 8 to 7.5 because I’m petty and HOW IS THAT THE END?!)
this is not a BL. if you are here expecting smoches and high jinx or angst and fists fights, please move on.
this is a complex story that should make you question how you feel about end of life care. The story does a good job of showing both sides of the argument it presents, without ever leaning too heavily in favor of one or the other. I found myself agreeing with almost everyone at one time or another.
recommended for: people who love suspense and plot twists you can see a mile away, people who like melodramas that make you question ethics and humanity.
(NOT recommended for people who need closure because COME ON with that ending!!)

Desfecho decepcionante

A moral dilemma drama
This is a show about two people with strong values, trying to do the right thing. If you're reading this review before watching, just know that it's a very good show, that happens to have two men with feelings for each other. The focus on romance is just one aspect, not really the focus. It's quite serious, though there's small moments of humor and happiness, which I believe add more dimension. Without the moments of peace and joy, the characters would have been very flat. It is on the slow side, but I didn't find the pacing to drag. Eight episodes was perfect, imo. It told the story without any unnecessary side plots. If you're in the mood for something to make you think, give Spare Me Your Mercy a try.Cet avis était-il utile?
Welcome the Morally Grey
A very interesting series that tackles the sensitive subject of euthanasia and addresses the matter from every angle by exploring the perspectives of doctors, patients, nurses, family members and the state, without supporting a specific side. Every character is loyal to their beliefs and supports them through their own ideologies and experiences. As for the acting, it was really good from all the cast members. They portrayed their roles very well and the way they should. For me, it was one of those series that could use a couple more episodes to flesh out the characters a bit more and make the flow of the story smoother without jumping from one scene to another. Even so, it's definitely a series worth watching if you like social issues represented and you usually enjoy a show with darker undertones.

A mesmerizing and electrifying thriller
The romance ends up being left aside but on the other hand, we have one of the best Thai BLs of 2024. The intensity, the suspense, the character development and above all, the production of this series is impeccable. The actors deliver memorable performances, the story is bold and is not afraid to explore the characters' mistakes and dilemmas, the photography is super stylish and the editing manages to maintain the suspense and create an electrifying climate of suspicion.
Some decisions that the characters make in the series are a bit stupid. Like the Boss killing everyone even with the police after him or him killing Somsak to exonerate Kan and then immediately killing again.
I think other points are poorly developed. Somsak and the forensic doctor knowing that Kan killed Phirot doesn't make much sense and the series never explores how they found out. Did Somsak simply see a photo and assume it was Kan?!!!
But there's no denying that Spare Me Your Mercy is the best Thai BL of 2024. The romance between the protagonists is weak and doesn't get much attention, but the actors deliver incredible chemistry and the script manages to overcome this problem.
The confrontation between Dr. and Thiu at the end is a bit rushed and I think it could have happened earlier. But nothing beats the beauty, subtlety and symbolism of the final scene where Thiu leaves a flower in Kan's handcuffed hand. A flower that symbolizes forgiveness.

I'm really into Thanapob in this series
I was most intrigued by Thanapob in this series. Thanapob(Kan) truly impressed me. He totally outshone his co-star. The suspense, moral dilemmas, and the epilogue to the story are also worthy of high praise. This series is one of the rare cases where the final episode is actually interesting to watch. Usually, series end with a drawn-out happy ending, but the epilogue in this one is more like something you'd read in a book. The script and the story are interesting, but throughout the series, there are often questions about the characters' motivations. In my view, this is the director's fault. It's their job to ensure that the characters' actions on screen appear convincing and well-reasoned. Despite this drawback, the series is simply fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by Thanapob's ability to transform himself. I've seen him in Midnight Museum, but I wouldn't have recognized him in this series at all. If you like an actor but can't recognize them in different roles, then they're a good actor.
