This was an outstanding story, it keeps you interested the 24 chapters
The acting of all the cast members and the chemestry between the main actor and actress was great. You can feel deep love between them in every moment. Even if this story made me cry almost the 24 chapters, I loved it and loved the ending.
The OST of this drama is one of the best I've ever heard in all the dramas I've seen.
I don't like too mich to rewatch dramas, but sometimes I do.
I really Like Korean dramas, and I find this drama one of the best I've seen. Give it a try you will Love , you can find it in good drama.

Lee Byung Hun is the main attraction here and the reason I watched this. He is wonderful at romance with his little nuances, gestures, and looks. In my opinion he is the best looking Korean actor, so it's hard not to enjoy him in this romance. There are some wonderful, passionate moments, but at other times, the love scenes are laughingly corny.

The story starts with a murder and a dysfunctional family including 2 stepbrothers in love with the same woman. It moves along at an interesting pace until about the last quarter where it turns into a weepy melodrama and screeches to an agonizing halt for about 5 episodes more.

Choi Ji Woo is undoubtedly beautiful, but here she is robotic. A decade ago she was paired with the leading heartthrobs, including Japanese Takenouchi Yataka. She did a decent job acting in Winter Sonata and Stairway to Heaven, my favorite melodramas. But here she was wooden and talked so S-L-O-W-L-Y that you could walk out of the room and come back in and she would still be on the same sentence. She played the kindhearted love interest of the two brothers, so she tried to act soothingly. However, her dialogue sounded monotone, cooing like a mourning dove.

The music was quite good, but the repetitiveness over 24 episodes made it irritating. Also, the drama was a bit long for my taste. You will enjoy it if you want to see Byung in a romance. But to see Mr. Korean James Bond with the full depth of his acting abilities, watch instead Iris, Masquerade, I Saw the Devil. or Iris for action. His best romance is All In (one of my favorites) and the very sexy movie, Addicted.

I originally wasn't going to write a review for this but then I just had too much to say about it. If you watch this and find you hate my opinion then I apologize and feel free to erase everything I write from your mind.
'Beautiful Days' really should have been renamed as either 'miserable days.' or 'the worst days of our lives.' because really that's all it focused on was tears....heartache.... and oh wait more tears.

plot: to be completely honest the plot wasn't that original or even engaging. although I will say a couple of characters circumstances were unique and towards the end, the main male lead's life completely turns around which I haven't seen happen in a lot of dramas. Beautiful Days was very refreshing in that aspect.

characters/ acting: I had no problem with the acting in this. The actors and actress could only do so much with their characters. and speaking of characters I completely fell in love with Sena. She stole the show for me because her spitfire attitude at everything was hilarious and in the beginning I only watched it for her absurd and rash scenes. As for the main female lead well...she was a dull as a doorpost that one. In the beginning she was just a really flat character that had the charisma and personality similar to that of what I'd imagine a dead slug to have. Luckily towards the last few episode she seemed to gain a little bit more of a personality though but I found it disappointing that all the side female leads seemed to outshine the main female lead hands down in terms of interesting quirks.

ok now lets move on to the main male lead of this drama. .......to be completely honest I found him a little creepy. He was good looking but somehow, perhaps by fault of the way they directed it, he came off a little....well creepy. I wasn't a large fan of the whole 'here, let me just....reach out and attempt to intimately touch your face....hahaha just kidding I was totally just reaching for the post card behind you because I get off on making you feel overly awkward and uncomfortable' scenes. Then there was that fond habit he had of just randomly popping up when you least expected him to in a very uncomfortable kind of way. For example, here's the main female lead having this nice little conversation with said second lead with some uplifting music going on in the background so i'm like I can roll with this when all of a sudden, with no warning from the director or easing into the scene BAM, the main male leads creepy leering face peering through a crack in the door. I don't know why but every time that happened (happened more than once i'm afraid) I jumped and got chills in a bad way. it gave me the feel of a horror movie. I really half expected there to be some scary music in the background during those parts.

chemistry: I don't really think there was that much chemistry between the two leads either. really just nothing. There were hardly any couple or heartwarming couple moments and more than half the drama he was too busy being a jerk or a terrible boyfriend to take her out on dates and really accumulate happy memories for those lovely flashback barrages we all love to see every three episodes. I could count on one hand how many times he was actually nice to her. All in all, kind of wish they didn't spend 19 episodes doing nothing but making each other miserable and then crying about making each other miserable. oh well, at least there wasn't a crazed jealous second female lead out to ruin their lives and suck the main male leads soul out of his body.

music: music was so so but Ididn't really expect anything awesome from such an old drama. there was one piece that I rather liked though which was the ending music. I could roll with it.

overall, I'd say this was an ok drama. don't think i'll ever rewatch it but it was a nice experience. You should watch it for Sena since she was hilarious and if you're curious about those dramatic almost horror movie type moments then give it a try. Also, if you're expecting a sad and tragic ending i'm pleased to say that you won't be crying you're weight in tears by the end of it either. Thank you director for that much at least.

a k-drama classic that excels in its characterization

beautiful days is a drama that took me by surprise as i never expected to get so into it. i mean, it's an oldie, a melodrama, i see tags of love triangles and mentions of illness, and it feels like i know what is to come because i have seen such stories before.

and yet, something about this drama felt different. i think it was more related to the characterization and the characters' relationships. okay, there were some unrequited loves, some makjang-y tropes and cliches, but the story was put together in a way where it didn't feel draggy or annoying, and instead i was always excited to watch the next episode.

i actually want to mention both female leads in a separate paragraph. while yonsoo was more of a typical kdrama fl, she stood up for herself when her partner wanted to pull away, fought back at his selfishness, and gave him a whole pep talk of why his decision is not right and he is lying to the both of them. yeah, maybe it could also be seen as clinginess, but i found that as her stepping up for herself and not letting him drag her around and calling him out on his actions. not to mention all the ways she found to help her sister secretly, without dwelling in self pity much. some might find that kind of selflessness annoying, but you have to admit it was beautiful. meanwhile sena seemed like such a unique character for the time. i found her to be a refreshing character. in fact, due to her character growth i started liking her even more. she was fiery, demanding and didn't back down, ever, and yet she wasn't malicious. i was the most worried about how their relationship would progress, because you know, unrequited feelings and all. of course they had a lot of ups and downs, but i loved how they never put any man between them. they're set on their feelings towards their love interests, but they also accepted that the guys have their own feelings. i think it's wonderful how a sisterhood didn't get ruined by a man for once. both of them were one of my favorite parts of this drama.

romance-wise, lee byunghun is probably the sexiest he has ever been here -- with his stares, touches and oozing charisma. maybe i disagreed with some of his ways and actions, but i couldn't dislike his character. obviously ryu shiwon's character couldn't do without clinginess and decision-making in yonsoo's stead, but he remained a positive character even despite his emo boi moments, and i liked how he came around in the end, so all is good.

actually, it turns out that the male leads were switched around (as in, the SML was supposed to be the ML, but the ML was supposed to be the antagonist) -- but it actually makes too much sense when i think back and remember how the story started out. i also want to say thank you to the fans that managed to get the ending changed, because otherwise my rating would have probably not have been this high. :D but the reason why i'm talking about this is that even despite these changes the drama felt fully coherent, and the story progressed well. yeah, i disliked a particular addition to the plot in the last part of it, but luckily it wasn't all made into a forced tragedy that is tiring to watch, even though it was still emotional (then again, why was it necessary anyway?).

i need to take a second to talk about the music as well. it was soooo good. i'm currently listening to the OST album as i am typing this, and still vibing to all the songs. :D it's nice that a drama where the music industry is a background setting actually introduces good music (they had their benefits by casting two professional singers), because sometimes music dramas can't provide any bops.

if you aren't afraid to explor older k-dramas and tend to enjoy good melodramatic love stories, this is definitely a good option to pick up.

Have you ever felt so moved by the second lead that you are cheering and hoping he will get the girl? Well this is the drama where it happened! Back in the day, Lee Byung Hun was actually meant to be the second lead in this drama. He wasn't the bigger actor and his arc was supposed to be a kind of anti-hero/villain kind of role. He was not supposed to get the girl but due to popular demand, he ends up with Choi Ji Woo. Also, she was supposed to die but again, due to popular demand, the writer changed the original story a bit to give it a happy ending. So full on old school melo with a great background OST and actors who have gone on to bigger roles.

I watched this many years ago, and it is quite outdated by today's standards. However, it was one of my first K dramas, so I won't be too harsh about it.

In itself, the story is good for what it was at the time. I think it could be done much better with today's technical advances, but it was quite a story at the time. I thought the supporting actors, namely, Ryu Si Won, could have developed his character more, expressed his emotions more; there was some crying involved in most episodes and some of the actions could have been less stereotypical, but it was an OK drama for the era it was produced.

Most of the actors/actresses have improved their performances since then, so this was a satisfactory attempt. You could spend some time on this if you really have nothing to do on a long vacation, if not, try watching something else.

Romantic suffering meaningless. Poor argument to support the separation. Has no solid arguments to support the sentimental attachments of one character to another. The good acting of the actors and OST saved the production.
