The director of the drama is the same (Yoon Sang Ho) only the set up is set on 1930s of South Korea. Some actors like Lee Hae Young (his breakthrough performance), Kim Bup Rae are also in the drama. This is the Independence Commemorative Drama of Korea back in 2019 starring award winning actors Lee Yo Won, Yoo Ji Tae, Im Ju Hwan and Nam Gyu Ri. The genre is an espionage period drama, with a slice of romance and family drama. The action scenes are heart-stopping that by watching it, it feels like you're there also.

Please take time to watch the drama and see for yourself why I rated this 10, my second all time favorite kdrama, Lee Hae Young became one of my favorite actors and lastly, why I'm obsessed by the PD's period dramas.

Born a princess and raised a soldier, Pyeong Gang is a woman with big dreams and limitless ambition. Determined to become the first Empress of Goguryeo, Pyeong Gang will stop at nothing to make her dream come true. Clever and level-headed, Pyeong Gang is well aware of the obstacles that stand in her way, but she's more than capable of taking them on. However, things take an unexpected turn the day she meets On Dal, a peace-loving man whose sole goal in life is to live in harmony with those around him.

On Dal is the exact opposite of the ambitious princess. He is an oasis of calm amid the turbulent storms in Pyeong Gang's life. The warrior princess soon finds herself falling for gentle On Dal. He's equally in love with the princess, whose heart he now possesses. He finds himself forsaking his principles to keep her safe, an endeavor proving to be increasingly difficult, as warring factions lethally vie for the throne. Forced to match both wits and strength against some of the most powerful people in Goguryeo, Pyeong Gang's quest for power could very well cost her everything. Does she have what it takes to realize her goals, or will the price prove to be too much to pay?

both River Where the Moon Rises and Mr. Sunshine are similar in their amazing strong warrior female leads that can fight on their own

A young woman tries to gain power and help her country. She uses a man to help her in political struggle. She's also a good fighter.

Bossam is still only on episode 10 of airing, but it kind of reminds me of the first half or so of River Where the Moon Rises. While the characters of both shows have little to nothing in common personality-wise, both shows are about a princess that is supposedly dead (FL), and a man with a tragic backstory that lives in hiding (ML). There’s also palace politics and scheming, with one family in particular where the son is in love with the princess (SML). The SML seems to have a constant struggle between having to choose between his family and protecting the person he cares for, and the FL and the ML just want to live in peace but can’t seem to catch a break.

the vibes of both dramas are kinda similar, and I might even say it's in the same time period, but don't quote me on that ;D

Both have Kim So Hyun and the "kings" in both are really similar, both are easily manipulated, weak and horrible fathers
TTN was more light and romance focused while RWMR might be more political

they could be from the same time period as if they happened at the same time and that make me wish WDH could guest role in RWMR ;)

The vibe is similar. Both great general. Kinda the same story but at the same time different one. Both having a love conflict in their life. You might like.

Both dramas are about a princess who, due to circumstances, have to grow up outside the palace. For sometime in her life, she doesn’t know she’s a princess. She eventually returned to her kingdom and was a very good asset in helping/saving her people. Princess Deokman in Queen Seon Deok uses her wits, Princess Pyeonggang also does it plus she also fights some battles for her people.
