Fall in Love with a Scientist (2021)

If only it was not for the story-line being boring this would have been amazing.

This drama has a lot of good, allot of meeh, some bad and some plain boring.... to be honest I understand those who rated this very low but if I look at the details there are quite a few things I liked about this that bring up the score.

The Male lead, he definitely lacks communication skills, flexibility and honesty but he is is fun to watch and all this lack is kind of cute (to watch not live with). This guy does of course also need a lesson or two in respecting others privacy as well... He has a heart condition, this is part of the plot but not his whole story he is a genius, he is ambitious and has the most amazing healing skills leaving his chest scar less even just a short while after open heart surgery, i So extremely impressive! All in all I enjoyed watching this guy.

The female lead... what do I say about this woman hmmm.... She is a bit childish at times but I did like her awkwardness and her character most of the time. However she does have quite a few moments that just felt childish odd and out of character that did lower the score for this drama. I loved how her character made way for important subjects such as stalking, violence against women and the problematic side to public confessions and lies. However she was a bit too forgiving in my opinion. But hey at least she called it out once before praising the behavior she just called out...

The second couple (roommates) was 90% lovable and fun 10% WTF? and come on this is just annoying... The science couple was probably 100% adorable but also not very interesting.

I also liked how this was a drama where I was more annoyed with how the kids treated their parents than the parents themselves, even if It just made (mostly) the female lead seem immature and fickle. " oh I have hated you for 20 years but one look and I forget everything kind of deal to it...

Another + is that this drama shows the importance of medical research (including animal testing), I love animals and am not a fan of animal testing for other reasons but when it comes to medical stuff I would be a hypocrite if I said I was against it considering I would be long dead without it. It is not done very realistically (I assume, but still).

The drama has allot of lovely lines and gives good appreciation to umbrellas as an important part of a relationship. So far this sounds like a high scorer right?Well it would definitely have gotten a better score if it just had a better plot-line, with interesting twists. These where not that interesting even for me who am team cliche, there was a mess, I love messes in plots but by the end I honestly did not really care how it would be solved and considered dropping it. And while the drama does give umbrellas the recognition they deserve the pets are just there to look fluffy, completely ignoring their individual personality.

All in all not a good watch but it has so much good in it that I could not lower the score...

Slow Beginning but Fun Watch in the End

The story took quite some time to develop. I wasnt really hooked till episode 8 but then I was intrigued.
I even started to like the second couple.
Watch this if you like:
+ online relationships
+ working relationships
+ caring unsecure cutesy ML ( not domineering CEO )
+ cool down to earth grandmas
+ healthy parent-child-relationships ( the MLs side)
+ the FL being badass about her relationship and stuffing her happiness in the face of everybody who tries to get her to end it ( I was cheering and clapping at my tv )
+ best friends who are actually clever and meddle at the right time
+ the interactions of the lab people
+ the kisses ( affectionate adult kisses not just smacks or frozen lips )

Hard to watch:
- the attitude of the FL towards her work in the beginning ( I completely agreed with the disappointment of the ML at that point but it turned to out to be a turning point for her life )
- the ML deceiving the FL about his identity
- the FL just blocking her online friend instead of working things out


There are Second Leads to both FL and ML but they werent grabbing too much screentime.

Slow And Not So Steady

I am a big fan of both the lead actors but even they could not saved this drama. It is so slow I kept falling asleep. It took for ever for the lead characters to show a little emotion for each other. (very little love their.) The second couple was the worst. they are in a relationship with lots of hate then they hate each other less, then they hate each other more. I could not understand the relationship and in the last episode of the last 10 minutes they get engage. No, it does not work for me. The last couple you only really see them until the last episode for the last 10 minutes that they show feelings for each other and even have some lines to say. You have 2 obsess characters that are only shown when the story wanted controversy. Great parents but you only see them very little and you wonder of their relationship with the kids. It seem liked the writer did not know how to make the story flow and was all over the place. The director did not help. I feel bad for the actors because they did their best with the characters they were playing, I will let you decide.

Week storyline

Even from the first episode I didn't like the storyline and the choice of actors who starred in this story but I tried to watch until the final episode because what I expected in the final episode was likely to 'boom' but frankly disappointed.

Compatibility between ML & FL does not exist at all in this story .. in the last episode Yang Lanhang shows a stone that wants to be carved as an engagement ring to Bai Lingling but until then there is no proposal or engagement between Yang Lanhang and Bai Lingling. The closing story is the wuhan epidemic ??

The whole story is a weak script, not many sweet, romantic moments, the wrong choice of actors to star in this story.

Strongly recommended to have a great time.

Very nice drama whose context is mainly located in a medical research laboratory.

Obviously, with Jasper Liu ❤❤❤ and Zhou Yu Tong (FL not naive and passive, which changes nicely), the cast is excellent! This couple is very credible and their romance (started badly) ends with a beautiful bond.

Dai Jing Yao and Wu Chen Xu also put on a remarkable performance (one with a role of twins, the other as an unhappy lover).

The story is coherent, despite a few "dramaland" twists and the final nod to the epidemic context, is welcome.
Strongly recommended to have a great time.

Not as bad as some but definitely not as good as some...

So I am pretty much on the fence with this drama and wasn't planning on writing a review but noticing the polarising ratings here on MDL I decided to give my two cents.

For those wondering whether to watch this drama, go ahead. It isn't that bad but do keep in my mind its very cliche and full of tropes that prevail in C-Dramaland.

Story:
Cliche beginning and middle. Meandered quite a bit towards the end and I pretty much fast forwarded the last few episodes but it's palatable.

Acting:
Considering the average storyline one cannot really expect oscar-worthy performances so I shall rate their acting as passable.

The male lead in typical C-Drama fashion is a stoic and genius fellow who turns overbearing (almost stalker-ish) when he falls in love with our FL who in turn is foolish, not so serious about her studies and some might also call her unprofessional.
I found the ML to be cute in the beginning as he falls for our ML (JL is really cute) but his character takes a nose dive into being overbearing. ---- Considering I have watched 'Hello Mr.Gu', our ML comes across as a saint here compared to Mr.Gu (but that's like comparing bad to worse and saying bad is good).

I like ZYT, she is beautiful and she is beautiful in this drama as well. Her acting is mediocre but her character is mediocre so I am not sure what I am rating here. ;)

Side characters did not get on my nerves so overall I am am happy with the acting.

Overall:
Having read my review till here you can probably get the picture.

I watched this show with my eyes open, expecting very less and assuming I'm going to be mildly annoyed with the tropes that would be present in this drama. A typical average Chinese rom-com. And it delivered exactly what I was expecting. So I am satisfied with my choice.

As long as you don't expect too much I think this is okay for a one time watch & some fast forwards. (which anyway is my normal speed for watching C-drama these days! )

p.s: Watch eps 1-20 FFW and skipped rest till 24.

I tried, I really tried.

I dropped this show after episode 18.

I tried my best to like it, I really did. Zhou Yu Tong is easily becoming one of my favorite C-drama actresses and Jasper Liu is so cute. I was so looking forward to this pairing and was hoping for the best but the storyline/plot is ridiculously slow paced and messy. They would jump around during the episode which would break up the flow of dialouge and the setting. This was definitely a production issue. The episodes were drawn out for far too long and the climax was so underwhelming. My main criticism of Zhou Yu Tong is the fact that she can NOT kiss. I despise fish eye/ wide eyed kisses when it’s been the third or fourth kiss, especially paired with Jasper’s reputation of being THEE C-drama kisser. I actually liked his character the most out of all of them. Lying is something I would never condone outside of texts/production. In real life a relationship founded on lies is not ideal, but here it was the main plot so I let it slide… this is a work of fiction afterall. However, the way they had Bai Ling Ling forgive him was so shallow :/ I felt like we really could have had a great female lead in the making, but the writers truly did her dirty with her (lack of) character development. And the way they DRAGGED the second male lead as a love interest, I was beginning to resent him, when he could’ve been a good love rival. What made me drop the show finally was seeing that asshole who confessed to Bai Ling Ling again. I knew the plotline took a major tank after that.

Listen… I’ve had my fair share of bad dramas, but this one TOOK the cake.

I hope they have Jasper and Zhou Yu Tong pairing in a better drama cause they deserved more than this shit storm.

Jasper could not save this one ;)

I actually like both actors Jasper Liu and Zhou Yu Tong, so I was quite disappointed with this one. The pace of it overall was just slow, and it was neither here nor there.

I didn’t like Jasper playing this sort of character- shy, introverted, uncertain. It just didn’t suit him. Similarly with Yu Tong- she was messy, irresponsible and just clueless. Other reviewers said they had no chemistry, and I agree. The second couple had some potential to peak my interest, but again the pace was just too slow even for just 24 episodes!

I did like Wu Cheng Xu who played Zheng Ming Hao- love rival. He looked good with his hair tied up. He was also the love rival in Unforgettable Love, and I liked the scenes where both males would have a “stand-off” ;)

I managed to reach episode 17 only because I skipped a lot :P Sorry but I wouldn’t recommend this.
