cliche

The Philippines are definitely growing popularity in the BL community this year, and for good reason. This series was cute but I found some of it to be a little cliché and tacky. The acting in the beginning was a little shaky but it definitely got better over time(probably due to everyone growing comfortable with each other). I think as their popularity grew, so did there acting. It got really cute at the end and I made a sad face a few times. Over all worth the watch. The actors all have great potential and I support them fully because they deserve it. Enjoy...

Well, this was a wild ride!

PROS:
1) MIKO'S EXCELLENT ACTING. Inaki a close second.

2) BEST SEX/KISS SCENES EVER SEEN IN A BL. Enough said.

3) ACTUAL GAY CHARACTERS. At first, I thought Sky and Ace were going the way of "I'm straight, I'm just gay for you." But no... a pleasant surprise! And kudos for introducing a lesbian couple, with Ace's mom and Amanda. Happy that the series served as an advocate for the LGBTQ community.

4) TRANS CHARACTERS GIVEN MORE THAN CAMEOS. It was nice to see the trans characters given actual storylines, rather than the usual few lines that add up to nothing but buffoonery.

5) MUSIC. The music was great... especially hearing a full orchestral soundtrack!

CONS:
1) THE STORY. There were just too many "WTF?" moments. For what? The good moments in My Day made up for a lot of the bad... but this series went from lighthearted to ridiculously silly to telenovela melodrama to serious to musical revue to portraying important messages to suspense mystery... it didn't know what it was. Whatever it was, it was way too much variety for one series.

MOIRA. Moira was such a nasty bitch to Sky and his parents, it makes us wonder how he could have put up with her for even one second. And then her revenge... stealing the dog? Her putting peanuts into Sky's pasta was practically attempted murder... what did she expect to get out of it? Moira should have faced time in jail or, at the very least, she should have been kicked to the curb by everyone. Pisses me off that she got a free pass at the end.

2) THE ACE TIMELINE. So Ace was an ass to everyone, including Sky. Suddenly, and without warning, Ace turns in to the kindest, sweetest, most loving guy in the world. There was no in between.

3) THE DOGS. Okay, I get it... Ace was lonely and lacking love from his parents, so Chukchuk was his special friend. So why did they need to show eight dogs, especially when Chukchuk appeared to be the only one Ace cared about?

My Day was pretty much a trainwreck, but one that was hard to stop watching... kind of like watching a Jerry Springer show and, once you've started, you somehow have to watch to the end. It was fun.

Couldn't write this review without spoilers.

That damn dog Chukchuk.

My Day really started off so well but towards the end of it, I kind of wanted the lead couple not to end up together because of the convoluted mess that the series evolved into.

Gallardo has great screen presence and Torres was somewhere there I guess. The plot line of Ace's mum wasn't fleshed out enough, the quirks of the housekeeper turned grating real quick. The actors who play Sky's family were wonderful in their roles.

Sky and Moira - their story arc was just inane...how do you let someone constantly belittle your family and partner without standing up for them?

Ace's character obviously needs therapy in order to sort out his mafia-esque father and additionally his creepy obsession + personification of Chukchuk. Damn that dog.

Please don't green light a season 2. Instead reintroduce the actors in a better crafted queer series.

Watch this series if you're bored or while waiting for your preferred series episodes to be subbed or if you're curious enough about Gallardo post his online scandal.

WHAT THE ??? AND HOW DID I STILL ENJOY MYSELF?

Like everyone has said, this is a train wreck. And yet, I still enjoyed watching it. Well, I enjoyed PARTS of it. If I ever were to watch again (I won't), I'd definitely fast forward through everything but the MCs together and the family scenes.

I had a LOT of trouble getting through the first few episodes. The acting was so wooden and clunky, the direction uninspired, and the script almost non-existent with scenes that were entirely unnecessary, and felt as if they were from an different series altogether (that doggie party lasted waaaaaaaaay too long). It improves (slightly) over time, but through to the end I don't think the writer/director/producer knew what they wanted to make. Comedy, romance, LGBTQ+ issue oriented??? They either forgot, or changed direction or just never paid attention and crammed everything in they could possibly think of.

I'm not a big fan of "camp". It has to be very well done and the comedy has to be very high for me to enjoy it. Unfortunately, this does not meet that criteria. So, for me, the camp elements were unsuccessful and detracted from what could have been a typical queer rom-com. There are a LOT of trans and cross-dressing characters. A LOT. Some are handled well. Some are regretfully used as the butt of jokes. Another example of more is less, where less would have been more.

The story has its moments. Like many BL series, things happen quickly, with little explanation. People change from arrogant, selfish a**holes to sweet, tender caring BF's or from delusional sociopath to penitent friend in one scene. Ace's transformation from horrible boss comes from out of nowhere. They try to explain it in the next episode, but it's too little too late. The Moira/dog-napping etc is just ridiculous. But it does fit with the zany ride they've taken us on. If you can put aside all logic you can get past most of what they attempt here. I'm not saying it's good, but you just have to go along for the ride.

But then we suddenly get an issue-oriented "gay is okay", "love has no gender", "I'm coming out to the world" ending that felt like it was from a third (or forth) series. To end on "I'm a proud gay" was baffling to me. The series did not seem to be leading there at all, so the last few episodes were very jarring. Why is Sky's gay-ness even an issue? His brother cross-dresses in every scene, but Sky is afraid his parents won't accept him being gay???

Was there a script? Many times, even up to the final episodes, it felt like the actors were improvising. They repeat the same lines of dialogue multiple times in the same scene. Was there ANY rehearsal? Actors continually interrupt each other, flub their lines, stand around awkwardly as if they don't know what they're staging should be. Was there a director? Often I felt like they just turned the cameras on and said go. Unidentified Background people are in intimate scenes that should be focusing on the MC.

Miko is okay. I personally think he has a lot of charisma. I forgave his amateur acting because he was just so darn likeable. Aki is very handsome (maybe too handsome? is that possible? but MAN is he an ugly-crier) and there are moments when he surprised me with a good performance, but overall both actors felt like they were in over their heads. I think they'll both improve with time (they did improve over the course of the series). But Sky's MOM. Wow. She was amazing. At times I forgot I was watching a series and felt like I was eavesdropping on a real mom having a tender moment with her real son. Incredible. For the most part, brother Ken is too shallow to really display any real acting chops, but in the one scene where he comforts his heart-broken brother he showed promise. Moira did a fine job. Jelai, Miss Becky, Ace's parents were all just ok.

Kissing and skin. Yup, everyone has mentioned it. I'm a fan, so I was happy to see as much as we did. But even moreso, I was happy to see a MM couple holding hands or just caressing each other affectionately. I did feel like they embraced real gay intimacy more than most. Thanks for that.

Like I said, I won't watch again. Not sure I can stomach S2. I'll probably wait a while and when I need a fix I'll check it out. But I'll go in expecting very little and hopefully will be satisfied.

Promising but seems like they gave up

Started out pretty promising and story was interesting and coherent but then it just became the misadventures of a jealous and homophobic ex who can’t take a hint.

Also there were so many scenes that added nothing to the story and made no sense. I also would skip the obvious advertisement scenes.

The acting is quite bad and very dramatic. I don’t think they are all bad at acting but the script and production didn’t give them much to work with.

In conclusion could have been a really good show but honestly a disappointment and down right annoying by the end.

It' come to you as a surprise

I have watched this series without expectations as I never watched Filipino BL drama, the series will make you experience a rollercoaster of emotions, society views, and how it affects not only the people in relationship but their families also and also how you can overcome it.

I recommend rewatching this drama as it will give more insight into the drama. I am proud of myself for giving chance to this drama. It is available on youtube if you want to watch and I also request if anyone decides to watch this drama not skip the advertisements.

Something amazing produced during difficult times!

Lots of sweet moments, and several more than sweet moments. They have such great chemistry and tension! Also, there are some really beautiful and artistic shots/scenes throughout. I was amazed. Especially since the budget, from what I heard, wasn't incredibly high.

Some parts of the plot could have been improved upon. But, there's really not much to complain about with this series. A couple of tropes are present, but there is enough newness and intrigue to overshadow them.

You begin rooting for the couple very early on. I am warning you though that there is a lot of buildup to Sky and Ace's relationship. It is a relatively slow-burn for the first 7 episodes. Then, prepare yourself. Their relationship does stay sweet throughout, but there are some moments :)

Sometimes you start to see this series as a fairytale. I kid you not that there are some legitimately Disney-prince-like moments. There are overdramatic falls, dances, kisses, and an overdramatic score to match. On top of that there is a great deal of comedy sprinkled throughout. You will laugh your ass off, smile stupidly, and feel like you should cover your eyes because you're intruding on a couple's moment.

Have to second a previous review.

For the most part, I agree with previous reviews that said they enjoyed the show despite its really not being very good, but I just want to second and emphasize a point made by one of them. Why aren't that *$&#@ Moira and her accomplice in prison for attempted murder and illegally filming a private moment!?!??!?! They go scott-free in the last episode and that really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you really want to see high quality Filipino BL, watch Gaya Sa Pelikula, Gameboys or Hello, Stranger.

Roller Coaster of a Series

It starts out beautifully filmed with quite nice settings and realistic environments, for the most part. It begins as a ‘comedy’ and some parts are funny, but I just was not sure where it was going to go. The story starts out familiar and predicable and if it were not for curiosity and my addiction to BL, I am not sure I would have finished it. The biggest issue is, without doubt, the many unnecessary overly gay characters are in this who are characterized way over the top. This series gets SO much better towards the end. It loses the silliness and gets into some real heart wrenching situations that will leave you emotionally drained and feeling what they feel. I could not believe how deeply moved I was by those last 3 or 4 episodes. They are worth the wait and go beyond being effective.

INSANLEY WEIRD BUT IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY

I don't even know how to explain this show. It's insane, it's wild, it's completely chaotic. So much happened and honestly, as crazy as it was, I'd watch it over and over again. The acting was a litttttttle questionable here and there and there were definitely some moments that had me questioning mine and the screenwriter's sanity. Overall, though, I think the over-arching storyline is pretty relatable (at least for me) & I think the male leads had really great chemistry. No matter how unnatural some of the scenes seemed, the main couple's relationship was awesome to watch and I felt like the actors put in their best to make it seem like their relationship was believable. Was it weird? Yes. Was it kind of silly? Yes. Did it make me laugh when it probably wasn't supposed to? Probably, yes. But, I think if you can look past some of its initial flaws and realize that 1. it's hilarious and 2. this was shot in the middle of a pandemic while trying to keep only a certain number of people close together... you'll be okay.

I'm seriously questioning my sanity after this lol

I advice you to strap on your seatbelts cuz boy this is 'bout to be a long ass rant.

¡¡Disclaimer!!
This review is based on my personal opinion/experience while watching, you are free to agree/disagree with it.

First of all, lemme start with saying that this series made no sense whatsoever imho, like at all. HOWEVER, despite the somewhat infuriating ending for some characters (I'm not spoiling it lol) and the weird writing on that script, I absolutely adored this series for some mysterious reason.

Story/Plot :
If y'all are going in, expecting some deep complex plot, than this is not the series for you, just move onto another one. In all honesty, I really couldn't make out what the main plot was in here at first cuz the pacing and the editing didn't make that much sense to me. But the plot summed up is basically two guys who didn't know they were gay (or at least one of them didn't I think?) Started off on the wrong foot and eventually became lovers with a bunch of side characters sprinkled here and there, some of which I absolutely adored and some I couldn't stand to look at. The first few episodes were really off putting but it gets kinda better afterwards. There isn't really much depth to the plot, especially in the beginning but it gets kinda dark by the last 2-3 episodes so I guess it has...some......depth? Idk man, I just couldn't decipher what I was watching after a while lmao, but I guess some plots aren't meant to be that deep. Like seriously, the director could've changed the plot mid production and you literally won't realize because it was just the two main leads' daily life and interactions and how it led to the confession, then you have a bit of their life as a couple, the "issue" on ep 11, the finale, and then the credits roll.

Acting/Cast :
I'll start off with my thoughts on the cast in general. I personally liked the cast and I really liked the main couple. The side characters were good, especially Sky's family and Kim (goddamn how I wish I had a kim in my life lol) also, you know when an actor/actress had done their job in portraying the villain/antagonist when you hate the character they're portraying. I absolutely hated Moira(?) (we weren't spared from the ex-lover who doesn't know when to back off trope sadly) and Ace's Dad (whom I didn't bother to remember his name lol) but yeah, overall I liked watching how our main couple interacted with the other characters and was quite amused for the most part.
Now, onto the main point in this section, our main couple. The relationship between those two and Ace's character in the first 3-4 episodes didn't make sense at all, BUT, I would say that it got better after episode 4. Now let's talk about the chemistry between those two. Holy smokes the chemistry was through the ceiling! *cough* especially *cough* *cough* episode 11 *cough*, but the way they go from almost zero flavor to off the charts, steaming sweet cakes, face sucking vacuums cracks me up in all honesty. But anyhow, the actors did great considering the weird script that was presented to us as the final product.

Music/soundtrack :
Not much to say here, the music and ost were ok, not that great, but still quite cute. Some bgm did get on my nerves tho but that was me, you might enjoy it more than I did so there's that.

Production:
For a series that was done on somewhat of a low budget, this one has done quite well. They really did try to utilize every bit of their limited budget to the max so hats off to the production team!

Product placement:
Gmmtv's 2gether ain't got nothing on this one lol. They legit use a new bar of soap for everytime they shower and the way they had Sky's brother, Ken, promote products through his yt channel was kinda funny, still a better way for promoting tho lol.

And finally after all this looong long rant, you might be wondering, why do a lot of people like it if it's this messy? Well let me tell ya...... I have no clue why. Is this series great? No not necessarily. Is the storyline all over the place? You better believe it is, it also had me scratching my head here and there....yet somehow I couldn't bring myself to hate it, I just found it really amusing and I literally binge watched it in one day (that says a lot about me as a person hahahaha...ha) but anyway, it's literally like what another reviewer said, a guilty pleasure no one would admit to liking.

P.s: you might lose a few brain cells while watching so be prepared lol. I'm also writing this review while half asleep so sorry if my thought process ain't that coherent.

Like a fairy tale

Storyline is simple, common, and cliche. But this time around between 2 men. Love therefore can be genderless. Acting among the lead can be classified as "superior" if comparing to the usual TV & telenovela. Others, the support and cameo, are so-so and tend to annoying and distracting. Cinematography in some scenes are excellent. Fashion, very good! What can be best remembered in this show is how the honest passion and emotions were shown in the Episode 8 finale . The best KISS award in my opinion. Very long, realistic and passionate, but never dirty and messy. It was a sight to behold, in a very good and respected way. Love and emotions are felt, that some audiences can relate and end up crying. It was surprisingly extended into the bedroom. Same passion and realistic emotions without being pornish, and scandalous. Background music, original, beautiful, and deeply felt that I end up buying the soundtrack in the iTunes.
