Great moments, but significant watch time may limit some viewers from starting
The strength of the show is the assortment of interesting characters. Many are well developed and have meaningful interactions with one another. The plot is definitely saucy and spicy (maybe makjang-ish?), but not particularly deep or substantive. Much of the show is predictable. The show's setting, which revolved around the family restaurant - Daddy's snack Bar - was underdeveloped. In fact, it was basically not part of the last third of the show. The show focused on family relationships and de-emphasized the work settings. Again, what makes the show worth watching is to savor quirky characters and special moments of humor, drama, and growth that make the show stand out.Because the watch time is quite long, there are stretches where the show feels boring or fluffy. You'll probably get a feel for what sections you would want to move through quickly.
Stand out acting: Lee Yoo Ri as Byun Hye Yeong felt expert. Song Ok Sook as the privileged Oh Bok Nyeo was strangely fascinating and enjoyable. Most of the time, I would not like this kind of ' mean mother-in-law' role in shows, but I just loved her in this show. Kang Suk Woo as Cha Kyu Taek was also expert in his role.
Compelling characters: I found myself loving scenes with Byun Ra Yeong (youngest daughter). Her role/acting was more one-note and over-acted at times, but the character was still compelling. Again, Oh Bok Nyeo was something I 'paid more attention to' when she was on the screen - a terrific character.
*Edited note on Jung So Min* - many will be interested in seeing her as she's a current popular star. I do like Jung So Min in other shows. Her character had a great introduction and start; it seemed like someone I would really want to keep track of throughout the show, but the character doesn't develop much and I also didn't feel the chemistry with her love interest and even her family. I don't think this is a reflection of the actress's skill, but more of the writing being 'forced' and not 'natural'. So, a Jung So Min completist may want to watch this show but it's not 'must watch Jung so Min because its so good' viewing.
Music was very effective. Not something I'll download, but great at echoing the mood of the moment. Many silly tunes.
Favorite Scene: Na Min ha really wants to go to an advanced science school, but his family finds it problematic to pay the tuition. At a bus stop, he runs into a pretty teacher working at a less competitive high school. Suddenly, Min Ha is desperate to go to the lower competition high school. His impassioned plea to his parents is such a treat.
I wouldn't rewatch the show again. Not because it's not worth it content-wise, but the time commitment is too much, and I would be skipping through half the show to watch the gems.

one time watch
this was the first family drama for me that contains a huge amount of annoying people like this 😡😡specially parents of both sides , grandmother, the elder son's wife and the middle sister
their character was in-between stubborn , selfish and weak in a very annoying way
the younger sister and the elder sister stories were the best for me
all young males in this drama were so cute and nice
the main idea that the drama was based on was very weak for me to make the 1st ML do all that and canceled his brain and do childish acts like this and made him forgot about mercy
specially after knowing the reason that the Father did all this for,
all what he did was just stealing the name to protect his family
but the ML acted as if he killed his father
so I saw a huge exaggeration from both the Father and the ML in their reactions
the middle sister's character wasn't smooth for me
annoying, weak in many situations, stubborn with no need in others,
the events and the dialogue were repetitive
the whole episode can contain only one or two maximum new event
the stories weren't go parallel and weren't connected well together
the whole mother's family (grandmother, brother, his wife and their son ) they can cut their roles and reduce the no. of episodes
the second ML's parents (the husband of the elder sister)
their story was too detailed in a very boring way
and the mother in law was unbearable
what annoys me the most was the main Father
he had a very weak character which made me mad as hell
And as usual they should make any one got sick with cancer to add some tragedy to the drama which was annoying also
What was really good about this drama that they were loving each other and supporting eachother always
Which I loved the most
thank god I finished
for me it's just a one time watch drama
this should be really maximum 32 episodes

"True family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other's life."
My father is strange is one of my favorite dramas of all the time, when I watched this title I was not expecting it to be so good and interesting as it turns out to be. The story follows a life of a family, and shows every character individually and with the family, this really portrays you to be like a part of their family.STORY:
At first 3 or 4 eps I was not so interested in this drama, but I keep watching, and with every ep I become more anxious to see what was coming next. The story can be a little confusing at the start, but will get easy to understand after some episodes. The characters individually stories are really good too, this drama is big,so obviously I jump some parts, nothing big LOL!
The ending is really cute and I was happy that all the mess was resolved in the end.
CHARACTERS:
Byun Han Soo(father): He is the main of all the things that will come to happen,at some points I really get nervous about his character, but his big heart, and his love for the family made me want to hug him for every bad thing he has to pass in the past.
Na Young Shil(mother): I confess that I hate her more than I love her,I think is because her strong personality that made her a little cold and hard to deal with sometimes. Also all the mess is a big part because of her.
Byun Hye Yeong(old daughter): A elegant lawyer with a hard temperament, her fights with everyone are sometimes really funny to watch, but I think her love story was the most uninteresting among the sisters.
Ahn Joong Hee: I love his character so much, his crazy personality and when he realizes he likes Mi Young is so funny, and I also feel sorry for him too,his scenes of finally having a family are so touching.
Byun Mi Young(middle sister): Always the left aside between the family,of course being the middle sister. She is one of my favorite in this drama, not only because of Jung Somin, but because of all her background story, the bullying, and her couple with Joong hee that was so good and enjoyable to watch.
Byun Ra young(youngest daughter): A little childish but ngl I love her individual story and I wish her to appear more in this, because I really enjoy her parts.
I will not say much more, the other characters are all good,in the start I didn't like Joon Young and Yoo Joo,but I ended up like them too.Jung Hwan and his family is the most tiring part to watch in this drama, all of them are really annoying LOL Chico is the only one I save from this house!! The OST is a memorable thing to say here ,is really good, my favorite one is "My heart" from Kim Hyung Joong.
CONCLUSION:
If you have enough time to watch 52 eps,and are open to being part of this warm family, you will like this drama a lot,is a really good construed story and I never regret of watching this!!

By the fourth or fifth episode I was already hooked. I loved the brother and sisters relationship, I have siblings and it reminded me of my relationship with them. The acting of all the cast members were so natural, it really made you think ah so nice.
The best part of this drama is that it’s happy. The time I was watching this drama, I was very stressed due to things happening in my personal and academic life and this drama just took all my stress away. It was not extremely dramatic, the plot was wild enough that it kept you interested, the characters felt realistic and believable. Even the characters you think you will dislike ended up being my favourite people!! It was just a peaceful drama and by the end of it I was sad that it was over.
If you want to watch a family drama, that’s got the right mixture of love and wild plot and funny characters and just brings you happiness and comfort overall then please give this drama a chance! You will love it I guarantee you!!

Feel-good Drama about Family and Love
The first thing I saw of My Father is Strange is a clip of Miyeong hiding behind Junghui in the elevator and tearing his tshirt. I immediately wanted to watch the show after seeing this clip, but hesitated when I realized that it was 52 episodes long. (I struggle with 16-episode shows as it is)When I finally gave the first episode a try, I found it very weird. It was soapy and choppy and different from other kdramas I have seen. But as I kept watching I got attached to the characters and got swept into their lives. I loved how the story revealed itself in layers, and actually thought it was sort of a master class on writing soaps.
My Father is Strange is hilarious, heartfelt and so much fun. It's overall mood is light, even though it deals with some serious situations here and there. My favourite part of the show was the relationship between Junghui and Miyeong, and wanting to see how their relationship progressed was actually why I ended up bingeing it. But somewhere along the way, I fell in love with all the characters and their relationships with each other. I loved all the siblings and their partners and enjoyed all their storylines. The father is an absolute sweetheart and mom is so badass. The sibling-wars and in-laws wars were hilarious, and the warmth of family that has each other's backs no matter what, fills your heart. It is one of the funniest kdramas I have ever seen, and it had some jokes about drama production and actors which were super meta.
The drama leaves you feeling good, happy and hopeful. Even though it tends to be quite unrealistic / overly idealistic that's part of its charm. There are parts of the plot / twists that are completely whacky and would never happen in real life, but if you can get over how unrealistic it all is, and accept its soapiness, you'll end up really enjoying the show. Towards the end of the drama I felt like I was part of this beautiful family and knew each of the characters deeply.

The story itself have the realistic points in life and obstacles give to them. I only found out about this drama because the couple Song-Song favorite drama at that time. So curious as I am, I search the drama, and I can see why people watched this drama. I love everything, the writer, giving it all for this, the director giving life to the story, and the actors and actresses that giving their acting skills to their best ability to act each scene that given to them.
I love each couple in the story, it has different obstacles as a couple, and I love the lawyer and the producer, the chemistry is on point.

Loved that everyone was so immersed into their character that I found myself crying and laughing together with them. Such an emotional drama been awhile since I’ve enjoyed and binged watch something not only because I started it but because it actually held my interest throughout.
Some characters may seem annoying or even bad at first but then you actually get to know all of them by seeing how they progressed and change emotionally(getting stronger).
What can I even say about the cast they’re amazing every sing,e one did a great job loved Mi yeong romance since they literally were made for each other. The sister hyeyeong and her husband are goals though they genuinely love each other, and don’t care about stupid nonsense stuff that most dramas have.
This show is on a whole other level it’s a lot of episodes but it’s goes by fast and now I’m stuck here wishing there will be a season 2 with the same cast and great plot. 10/10

A roller coaster ride for your emotions but ends well and happily
9/10 is my rating. This is a 2017 South Korean drama series with 52, ~65 minute episodes.First I provide a unique synopsis then review
Synopsis
This is a drama about an average family living in Seoul. Things change when a struggling celebrity shows up claiming to be a son of the family. The series follows the family through many events from joyous to challenging. Through it all the strong family bond sustains them. Each child finds their way and pursues happiness in jobs and relationships.
Family members:
Byun Han-su/Lee Yoon-seok (Kim Yeon-cheol) He is the father and head of the household. He was a Judo athlete prior to being accused of a crime he was innocent of. Through a series of events he wound up swapping names with his friend and keeping it to mask his criminal record to avoid hardship for his family. When the son shows up it is because of this name swap and Yoon-seok takes him in out of respect for his friend. He soon sees the young man as a true son and member of the family.
Na Young-sil (Kim Hae-sook) Mother and wife of the family. She is a nurse who learned of Han su’s past when he was treated in the hospital. She knows he is innocent and helps him hide the past from the children and others.
Byeon Hye-yeong/Lee Hye-yeong (Lee Yu-ri) The eldest daughter of the family. She is a successful lawyer and has diligently worked to prove her father’s innocence.
Ahn Joong-hee (Lee Joon) is a former idol who is now struggling at acting. When he loses a role because he cannot understand the emotions between father and son he seeks out whom he believes is his missing father.
Byeon Mi-yeong/Lee Mi-yeong (Jung So-min)— A middle child of the family she has struggled to find a career path since quitting as a Judo athlete following an injury.
Byun Joon-young/Lee Joon-young (Min Jin-woong) The eldest child of the family, He has struggled for years to pass the civil service exam.
Byeon Ra-yeong/Lee Ra-yeong (Ryu Hwa-young) is the youngest child of the family. When she is not annoying her other siblings, particularly the eldest sister, she is either on social media or teaching yoga.
Review
This was a very compelling family drama that provides a roller coaster for your emotions but ends happy. The main plot point revolves around an, at first, mysterious event from the past involving the father. You are quickly let in on the secret and it is then a matter of when and how the rest will find out and if it will be resolved. There are some sad moments, but the story overall is uplifting. I would watch this again and highly recommend it. It is a relatively long drama with over 50 episodes that are over an hour but it allows time character development and believable romances.
Spoilers
Hye-young the lawyer daughter is my favorite character. She is no nonsense yet does everything with such dramatic flair it was enjoyable every time she was onscreen. Her boyfriend turned husband, Cha Jung Hwan (Ryu Soo Young), is a mama’s boy at first but watching as Hye young deals with the over bearing mother in law and the overly filial son is entertaining. He comes around and it is part of what makes him her perfect match.
Joong-hee, the idol turned actor, was also my favorite. His deep desire for a father was heart feels. It showed how famous people are still very much human beings. His romance with Mi-yeong was the highlight of the show and one of the best romances I have seen even compared to series where the romance is the key focus. Having them both drawn to each other even when they thought they were related illustrated the depth of their connection. He never gave up on himself and I loved that, I understood his anger when he found out he was deceived but I still thought the writers took it too far. He would have known the father did not know about his existence so was unaware that deception was hurting a child. He and the father had formed such a bond it was hard to believe he would not have understood the genuine nature of that connection. The father could have let Joong-hee contact him then let that fade as Joong-hee seemed ready to but he kept bringing him meals and showing up to develop a relationship. There was nothing for the father to gain from forging that tie. But people do act irrationally when they get hurt emotionally.
The kids acted so mean to Joong-hee when he was first in the house. The father kept saying my kids are kind they will accept this or that but they really were not completely kind especially in some of the situations. They acted spoiled and immature multiple times both individually and together as a group. The grandmother was so mean to him in the beginning. But that does reflect some previous generation‘s response to orphans and illegitimate children. My father was illegitimate in the US born in the 50s and he was treated poorly by the elders and society in general so it is a thing that unfortunately happens not just in South Korea but elsewhere too. It is an ugly streak in humanity to treat the innocent children poorly when the adults create the situations.
The sister-in-law, Kim Yoo Joo (Lee Mi Do) was truly horrible in the beginning. To go through sweet Mi-yeong’s memories of being bullied by her was heart wrenching. I loved the way they handled it. It was cute when Joong-hee bullied her back a bit. I did not think it would be possible for me to forgive that character because I absolutely detest bullying and have stepped in to stop bullies in the past. In my school days I was not bullied as I had a very strong personality and no-one bullied others in front of me or they had it turned on them. I even shielded multiple people as an adult subject to workplace bullies. But there was a situation where I was bullied in the workplace and have experienced how miserable those situations can be. But Yoo Joo did finally see the light and changed and offered apology in the right way so even I could understand Mi-yeoung forgiving her.
I was so conflicted about the mother, Young sil. On one hand she was a great wife and mother who was always there for her family. The way she took in Joong-hee and then all of the sons in law and the daughter in law was one of the sweetest components of the story. I felt both annoyed and understanding in the way she emotionally blackmailed Yoon-seok to take on his friend’s identity. It seriously would have felt like a sign from the Gods with the way the mix up originally happened. But it was definitely a character flaw that lying and hiding things seemed to be go to responses for her.
It was hard and I was torn about whether there was justification to deceive about his identity. On one hand he was unjustly accused, and there is such a strong, social stigma on people that commit those type of crimes that carries through to their children so it was understandable. Conversely lying is never good especially about something so monumental. The writers did a good job of laying that conflict out there and examining how the different characters thought about it, and how people in general might think about it. It was unfortunate that while we did get to learn there would be a retrial we did not know the outcome of the retrial. I felt beyond frustrated when you found out that his friend was the one that had originally betrayed him, and then he was so unwilling to talk about it even all those years later. I certainly never felt sympathetic towards that character as I thought what he had done was completely unforgivable. I loved when Hye-young lost it with him and was like look you will do the right thing or I will put it on blast what you did. The father told her to stop and was a bit apologetic about it but that dude more than had it coming. I do not think he would have been willing to testify without the threat of some personal consequences. Even if his mom had taken money he should’ve still told the truth and let the chips fall where they may. You don’t let an innocent man go down for a crime because your family member accepted a bribe. His unwillingness to help right the wrong showed he was just a completely unrecoverable character. The other piece I felt wasn’t well tied up was I would’ve liked to have seen his conviction overturned and then find out what happened to the people that had actually beaten that poor kid to death. A lot of times when that sort of thing happens, those type of people go on to commit other crimes. While Hye-young mentioned that if the conviction was overturned, they could reopen a case against the actual perpetrators we never got that level of satisfaction.

If anyone sees this drama for the first time, they might be shocked and not want to watch it for its 52 episodes. However, don't let that discourage you from watching this wonderful drama. At first, I was very doubtful too, but trust me, after the first episode, you will never want to stop watching it. There is now a hole in my heart, since I finished watching this. This is a beautiful drama that has so many lessons to teach, and I really loved this. Story: (9.5) I loved this plot so much. I cried, I laughed, I sympathized with the characters, I hated the characters at some point too, that's why I took 0.5 off. There were points where the characters pissed me off a little. Towards the end, when Junghui was being a bit of a jerk to his "father," that sort of made me mad. The part when Miyoung broke Junghui's heart over and over again, that also made me mad, but all aside, this is such a beautiful drama.
Acting/Cast: (10) The casting is beautiful, and whoever casted them deserves an award for bringing together such a beautiful cast. The cast worked very well together, and everyone had very good chemistry, especially Hyeyoung and Jeonghwan, they were the equivalent of married couple goals, while Cheolsoo and Rayoung were more of a cute couple, which was more of my style. I think everyone worked with each other well, and depicted their role perfectly. I love this casting, and I hope to see a reunion sometime in the near future.
Music: (9.5) The music fit every scene that it was in so well, and I usually pay no attention to osts in drama, but this drama made me search up every ost and just listen to them.
Rewatch Value: (9.5) I am not fond of rewatching dramas, but this drama was so beautiful, it is impossible for me to not have an urge to rewatch this over and over again.
Overall: (10) Overall, this is a beautiful drama, and I think that after watching this, everyone will learn a valuable lesson about family.
The whole series is on youtube, so anyone interested can go to youtube, and watch it. I highly recommend.

Compelling and Enjoyable
Overall Impression:I only started watching this show because of Jung So Min (JSM). My admiration for her brought me to this show. However, I found a few more actors that I will be adding to my interesting actor/actress list.
I admit that I am a sucker for romantic comedy. But this was simply well done. The connection and delivery from both Lee Joo and Jung So Min were outstanding.
Acting:
Let’s start with JSM. I thought her acting was superb. She hit every single point and delivered. I felt her pain as well as her smile. Cute, funny, awkward and relatable, her delivery was flawless as usual. I also enjoyed her connection with Lee Joo—I left like a fly on the wall, watching everything and I love their interactions.
I also came away impressed with the entire cast’s acting. From JSM to Park Hye Sook Each cast member more than delivered on their role. I loved Lee Yoo Ri's performance.; her character and her awesome fierceness. Both Kim Yeong Cheol and Kim Hae Sook were amazing. The entire crew was superb.
Story:
I love it when a show transports me to another world and make me feel like I am a part of the story. This drama did just that for me. While the story is a bit stretched out and draggy, I found it compelling and interesting. I loved the family dynamic, and I enjoyed the love they had for each other.
OST: I love the soundtrack. So much so that I cannot stop singing "You will be in my heart" :)
If you are hesitant about this show; I say go ahead and give it a try. I don't think you will regret it. It is an emotional, funny, charming and compelling drama.

What a beautifully written and well-depicted drama!
Byun Hye Yeong is hands down my favorite female character in all of the Korean drama's I have ever seen. She is such a role model to all the women out there. Love her character to pieces! Her values are so developed and progressive it is so hard to see female lead characters like her. Kudos to the writer and the muse the character was based on! Jung Hwan complimented her so well. He looked after her even when she pretended to be strong enough to do things alone and was supportive of her regardless of how foolish his mom was. He didn't enable his mother but actually called her out on her shit.Joon Yeong was a bit dislikable at times but once he found out that the got his girlfriend pregnant he sure grew up a lot. NGL hate characters like Yoo Joo but she also grew up even though she took her sweet time doing it.
All of the couples in the drama were so good to each other. They took little missteps a time or two but always made sure to get things right. Well worth the time spent. I would highly recommend it to anyone who asks in future.
