"It was you. My other half."
*NOTE. never watched the series, i just stumbled upon the film version on netflix.*
it’s cute but boy is it far from perfect.
-the story itself is my main issue. honestly, there’s just not a lot of substance to the plot therefore it lacks any real impact. the “obstacles” in the plot weren’t really that major so i just kind of found the film a bit dramatic. the, what i would guess is the main conflict, is brought up and resolved in like 5 minutes. (tho it was lowkey hinted in some scenes before) another thing that i had a problem with was the relationship between the two leads. we already know Sang Yi is a super fan ever since he saw him preforming so we can vibe with the love at first sight trope but what about mister Kang In Soo? more scenes that really showed their development and intimacy would have helped in delivering and expressing the two leads' connection.
-i also lowkey feel…that for a story revolved around music...the music itself lacked? i honestly would have liked to hear more songs besides the main one (tho the main song is nice, especially the chorus’ melody) even if they were just snippets. especially since they worked together on Kang In Soo’s album and that’s where they supposedly bonded. also i always try to make my reviews spoiler free but im gonna just sneak this in real quick, !SPOILER AHEAD! that one scene where Kang In Soo gets mad bc they changed the production of his song, it would have been not only more interesting but more powerful if we got to actually hear at least like 15 seconds of the song and witness his expression rather than just see him storm out the studio. !END OF SPOILER! overall in my opinion it just lacked variety in music which is a shame for a film that’s revolved around it.
-so here we are with a story that is weak. what would be the absolute cherry on top that would have been made this film insufferable? bad acting. thank goodness that wasn’t the case here. the acting overall was pretty good! everyone had their role and played it well. i personally think Lee Sang did the best though it probably helped that his character had more range and expression than Kang In Soo.
-in conclusion, the story is cute but that’s it. i don’t necessarily regret watching it but i definitely wouldn’t watch it again. so if you’re not sure whether or not you want to give Wish You a try, i would probably lean with the option of not bothering BUT like i said, i don’t particularly regret watching it so maybe you won’t either!
