The Midnight Series way to Chaos

I already knew from the trailer that this series would have been chaotic, and I was all here for it.

Dirty Laundry is about Neon, who supervises a laundromat at night, and Night, a writer of crime stories, who is one of its many customers. They find themselves involved in a dangerous situation when a suitcase filled with money gets stolen: they will have to look for it investigating all the other people who use the laundromat, even by going undercover. And of course, ridiculous scenarios ensue. Poor Night gets into way too many situations from which he'd like to run away, but the circumstances are so unrealistic and the framing is so over the top, that it doesn't feel too bad to laugh about them.

Film and Nanon are both perfect for their characters. They give it their all for this series, whose characters have very high energy all of the time. The side characters are very fun as well, giving great extravagant performances (my favourite being Momay trying to give someone else CPR), even though - with some exception - they aren't very well rounded. (But that's not important to the story at all, so we'll let it slide)

The music is just fun, and it accompanies the series very well. I love the rhythmic theme song, with its nods to the laundromat at the beginning. I also love the chaos of all the characters trying to sing but failing, and Nanon's sweet voice when he sings a cappella at the end of episode 4.

Overall, this series is light, fun, very easy to watch and to pass the time with. It was very entertaining in terms of the investigation the two main characters were trying to lead, and interesting to see how it all pans out in the last two episodes.

The director himself, in the Midnight Series Special, warned not to take this series too seriously, and I'm very happy about that, because it's surely one of the most fun ways to follow.

Overall, a fun light show!

I started this series without any expectations, since I found it out of nowhere while it was still airing.

It's about a mother who tries to set up her three sons with girls she thinks they're the best for them, but she finds that it's not easy when they all fall in love with someone else.

I confess that I decided to watch it mainly because I wanted to see Tay Tawan in a comedy, because he can never disappoint, but I have to say that my favourite storyline was Arty's, played by Gun Atthaphan, who keeps being an amazing actor.
I thought it was pretty funny how Gun can still play teenage characters when next year he will be 30, but he's very convincing anyway. There is something to be said about the actresses who played the love interests as well! They carried the storylines as much as the main boys. Overall, it was a very well defined cast, that worked pretty well.

The stories were fun to follow, even though the way some of them ended disappointed me a little, because they felt a bit rushed. Although, I appreciate how the series was built, dedicating six episodes to each of the brothers and their own stories and backstories.

In conclusion, I have to say that it was a pretty light and easy to follow series, which is always nice to find, even though I don't think I'd rewatch it anytime soon; but the theme song will stay in my head for way too much time!

A Strange School.

Home School is home to several mysteries, which leave the audience confused for more than half the series, wondering if they'll ever explain them.

But Home School is also home to several characters, and these are surely the driving force of the series. If an episode doesn't explain to you why Run is trying to run away in the very first scene of the show, you won't notice, because you'll already be busy trying to find a favourite amongst the thirteen rebel kids sent to this absolutely weird place.

Every episode in the first act is then set to enrage the audience, I assume, because the kids are everyday fighting their way against authority, always in exchange for a reward which, pedagogically, doesn't really make it the best kind of education. (And for a school, this really lacks variety of subjects anyway.)
The second act is - as usual - very tragic: the kids realise they are alone and they need to mourn that knowledge.
The third act is a very long conclusion to it all, which is for the most part very satisfactory.

The actors are superb! Both those who played the professors and the kids did their best work, some more subtly and some more outwardly.

Overall, I really enjoyed watching this series every week, and I got fond of its characters; but I was also particularly in awe of the way it was shot and directed: it felt like a movie, in a good way. I would recommend it to the person who is looking for a character-driven story, even though it's sold as a mystery: the home in Home School is about family after all.

Just so many people!

This was A LOT. Honestly I don't even know where to start reviewing this, because it was just all over the place.

I did like that the plot of every episode was focused on just one or two main character's storyline, but since there were six or seven main leads, most of the stories were rushed and somewhat felt incomplete. The writing was also very awkward at times, especially on one of the first storylines.

The acting was superb, even though sometimes the directing and editing was a little dramatic, but it /is/ a drama and we will forgive it that. I really enjoyed the chemistry between all the actors, especially the couples.
The boys were good, obviously, but the girls helped carrying this show so much on their own shoulders that it wouldn't be the same without them. I appreciated that the female characters were all different with their own personalities and that they weren't pushovers. Again, I would've preferred better writing or a little more time to explore and expand all of their stories, but I guess you can't do much with so many characters and just 16 episodes available.

I have to say, it was confusing at the beginning to find a single plotline that connected all of the characters together, and to be fair it took 10 episodes to come about, but the individual plotlines were quite interesting, and full of cute tropes, even though a little poorly executed.
The MookLee storyline's resolution, for example, was so unsatisfying and rushed by the second couple of episodes, just to give space to the next couple, and I've been confused by that ever since. The longer storylines - i.e. the last one, that ties them all up together, with a long flashback that connects to the ending episodes - are more satisfying in terms of storytelling than the shorter ones about just one or two characters.

Overall quite confusing, but it was a light show with its good moments.

Be My Fairytale

I am so happy I started watching this series, twelve weeks ago! What seemed like a fun drama with an interesting time-travel related plot, became a show full of heart and love and search of identity.

The plot mostly revolves around Kawi, Pisaeng, and Pear, and the story is mostly told using their points of view, but the side characters are also perfect at capturing the affection of the audience.

I loved how they used time-travel as a storytelling device and as plot development, other than character development. I personally love stories about time travel, but they need to be perfectly told to be appreciated to the max, and this one was just right. I used the term "fairytale" in the title, just because the way it's told plus the feeling of joy that watching it gave me over the past twelve weeks, made me think of that kind of story. The sound from the songs has the perfect fairytale vibe that carries this series, and the main theme music is very catchy.

Krist and Gawin are absolutely perfect in their roles, and I loved seeing them playing different characters from what I've seen them as before, with Krist as a mostly stoic character in SOTUS and Gawin as a mostly bad boy in the Kiss Me Again/Dark Blue Kiss series (his character in Not Me might seem a little more similar to Pisaeng, I think? but he's definitely way more sad there. I loved seeing him smile more here: he has a lovely face and happiness suits him).

Overall, as I said, it's a lovely, lovely series that will not disappoint you if you're looking for a heartwarming story and a beautiful romance.

My Personal Comfort K-Drama

This was the first k-drama I've ever seen. It soon became one of my comfort shows, and I still love rewatching it again and again, even though I now know it by heart.

It was made at the beginning of the 2010's, when there were flip phones with batteries you could take out of the phone just to be dramatic, and they do that a lot in this (take out batteries as well as being dramatic).

The premise is really fun and quite original, and the two main actors are amazing and very believable at playing all the roles they are given. Not once I am confused as to which character they are embodying. I love it.

This thing got me emotional. Twice.

I had to rewatch this series again, because the first time I definitely overscored this for sentimental reasons (I cried) and it didn't seem fair.

It's nice, the third act is definitely stronger than the first two, as in story and acting - especially by New, whose sad little face always makes me want to pat-pat his back and tell him that everything is going to be okay.

Contrarily to most of the comments I've read about this series, I'm not a big fan of SunMork, because unfortunately I don't like Sun's character very much, but I like that they had their happy ending as well! (Mork does deserve to catch more Pokémon on Pokémon Go, though. I hope he completes the Pokédex, I'd love that for him)

Pete and Kao keep being dysfunctional but apparently they're happy that way and it's fine. Sure, if this was a real life relationship, the red flags would be infinite, but it's not, and they're really cute when they don't start a jealousy scene or lie to the other for nothing.

The theme song is still very lovely, and I certainly will keep it in my playlist, while the opening score is ICONIC. I love it. If others opening sequences are good, this is their queen. The drama of it. The strings. The post-it notes with LOVE and LIE written on it. Amazing. I would love it as soundtrack during specific moments in my life just for making me feel like a badass.

The cast is obviously great. Love the original Cool Gang, and all the other secondary characters too, but the four main characters are all perfect. TayNew especially delivered great performances, reprising their roles from some of their earliest acting roles. They have grown a lot since this series too and I'm curious to see them work together as other characters as well: I'm sure their chemistry and skill will make anything they do worth watching.

As for the parenthesis in the first sentence of this review, it's true. I did cry watching this the first time. I don't know what it was, I've watched series like this before, but I guess something in this one got me. Could have been the sad music during the whole breakup period. Could have been New's little sad pout. Could have been the fact that Kao found himself alone in what looked like the worst time of his career and had no one to vent to. Could have been the fact that he came out to his mom not in the way he wanted, but she accepted him anyway, and gave him no pressure to do so, even if she suspected it. Maybe because when Pete and Kao find each other near the school office and they decide to talk , it's clear that they miss each other and the love is still there, even though they won't admit it. Or maybe because when Pete defends Kao during his live, he says they're friends, and their friendship has been very important to the both of them throughout their relationship, since the beginning, and, reader I'm sorry, but I'm a sucker for this whole trope.

All this to say that, sure, Dark Blue Kiss isn't a 10/10 even if it might make me cry, but it isn't that bad either.

As sweet as cherries.

I am full of love right now.
This series gave me everything I was looking for in a Thai adaptation and more.

Sure, lots of people kept comparing it to the Japanese drama, which was also perfect, but this one just gave me more emotions than I thought it could.

It starts with a lonely insecure Achi and a resigned Karan and it makes them bloom, come out of their shells, and try for the unknown. The growth of each character in this story is something so satisfying to see and to cheer for throughout.
The side characters are absolutely lovely as well, and I appreciated all of them from beginning to end. Jinta was definitely an improvement from his Japanese drama counterpart, or even the manga: I was delighted every time he was on the screen.

Karan and Achi's love is equal, selfless, generous, mature and understanding. It's cute. It's what I love about romance stories. I wish there were 100 episodes, I'm sure I would just keep smiling at the screen and get emotional and fall in love a little bit too during each and every one of them.

I'm proud of how Tay and New matured in their roles from their latest series together. I hope I can see them working together again in the future, because their chemistry can just become stronger.

Overall, it's definitely become an instant comfort series and I am surely going to rewatch it in the future.
