The perfect youth drama

I don't really write reviews but this drama definitely deserved one.

Story: First off, I don't really like the female pursuing male cliché, but this drama proved to me that I didn't detest it at all—just that past dramas didn't portray it well. I watched so many youth dramas with the same trope but the female lead would only embarrass herself over and over again. But this drama showed that the embarrassment wasn't really necessary. Secondly, even though this is a youth c-drama we barely got any misunderstandings, and if we did, it would be solved within the span of one episode. Thirdly, the pacing of the plot was just immaculate. I didn't feel like it was too rushed nor was it too slow, it was just perfect. Last but not least, you will enjoy the story of all the support roles and the love story of the secondary couple. Their love story shines in their own way. Overall, for a humorous adolescent drama, the plot was really incredible and well thought out, and the ending will have you in tears. This is THE youth drama of 2023, though it may be too soon to say for sure.

Acting: The actors in the cast performed a fantastic job in their parts. I have to admit that the acting of this young group of actors genuinely surprised me. Although their acting wasn't very exceptional, they did a great job of making the characters likable and entertaining to watch.

Cinematography: I had to admit that the directors did a great job with the cinematography. As the plot developed, you could observe how trends in fashion and other areas changed. The phones and clothing, for instance, changed as the years passed. They paid attention to even the smallest details. You could see how the characters were dressing less conservatively. And the topics of men and women were also not looked down upon as much. The details might be minor, but they played a vital role in the pacing of the drams.

Music: Every single song was wonderful. They were ideal and appropriate for each circumstance that arose in the drama.

So all in all this is a great drama and I would encourage you all to watch it!

The wasted potential......

This drama had so much potential, but the dragging made it unwatchable. Amnesia twice? Seriously?

I made the decision to watch this drama since I adore the childcare subgenre. I was hooked in the beginning, but the drama's ongoing repetition made me want to stop watching. At some point, the plot became quite predictable, because it was like watching the same thing over and over again.  I like how they tackled some cultural standards (Age gap relationships), but I find it repugnant that they effectively rendered their characters moronic in the process. (DD's Dad, Like are u serious?)

Although they were unable to demonstrate their acting abilities due to the storyline, it was nonetheless a respectable effort.

The OST was acceptable.

I wouldn't rewatch such a drawn-out, tedious drama.

Romance Reimagined

I don’t know how to express exactly what I feel about this drama.

Usually, dramas with mature content like nudity and explicit scenes tend to fall into one of two categories: they either become literal corn without any plot, or the plot is so poor that it’s hard to watch. However, this drama doesn’t fit into either extreme. It’s neither overdone with excessive nudity nor underdone with a terrible plot. Instead, it finds a balanced middle ground.

For Korea, I believe this drama represents a significant step forward. I appreciate how it portrays sex as something healthy, rather than something to be ashamed of or looked down upon—a perspective often found in more conservative societies, including Korea. I learned a lot from this drama, especially about romantic relationships.

Both couples in the story were very engaging. One character transitions from a toxic, restrictive relationship to finding freedom, realizing she doesn’t need to rush into another relationship immediately after gaining her independence. The other character always sought freedom because she never felt secure, and her journey contrasts beautifully with the first character’s. This contrast effectively highlights the different dynamics of relationships, emphasizing that all types are normal. Importantly, the second female lead is not portrayed as promiscuous just because she didn’t have a strict, monogamous relationship. This nuanced depiction is refreshing and avoids negative stereotypes..

Unlike many K-drama that often stick to the same boring traditional romantic tropes, this drama explores the complexities of love and relationships that feel real and relatable. The inclusion of elements like HIV tests underscores the importance of sexual education, making the drama not just entertaining but informative. Overall, this drama feels like a breath of fresh air. It’s not perfect, but it leaves a lasting impression. It shows that a drama can be simple yet well-executed, with nudity as a component rather than the focus. The writer and director deserves commendation for creating such a memorable and impactful work.
