Powerful and connecting

Ohhh godddddd what should i even say? It was such a perfect kdrama ever made. Firstly i dont usually watch such long kdramas i would skip watching them. I usually choose a usual 16 episodes or less episodes kdramas. Maximum would be 24. But im a huge fan of both Ji Chang Wook and Ha Ji Won. I've been delaying this drama for a while now. However, i made up my mind and watched it. Historical kdramas arent my cup of tea either. But i literally binge watched for 2-3 days straight. Firstly Ji change wook - his acting was on point. Him acting soooo innocent in the beginning and cruel during the last few episodes he made me believe that he is a very unique actor through this project. Also his character was so perfect. He was a very naive innocent man who afraid of being killed by his enemies. But at he turned out to be a scary and intelligent character. He literally couldn't even read anything but he became a perfect man. But his character was not something i personally liked. Him being an emperor could've made more matured decisions. He knew that he was being used by the FL but he still forced himself on to her. He could've treated Tanashiri a little better. I mean Tanashiri was a bad person but she was just 15 when she married the emperor. Also she was just childish before the marriage but because of the emperor's behavior towards she became a heartless person. I hated Tanashiri but at some point she was too young to be hanged to death because of her family. Next our Female lead Empress Ki, i basically hated her character. She was from Goreyo, she wanted to take revenge from thr Yeon Dynasty and that is how she got into all this plot. She lost both of her parents in the most cruel way possible because of the Yeon leaders. She went to Yeon dynasty to get revenge however, she forgot everything about her revenge. She loved King Wang Yoo and King Wang wad head over heels for her. If she was only for revenge Wang Yoo could've helped her in many different ways. However, she chose to get married to the emperor of Yeon dynasty. She kept telling herself that she was doing this for revenge and stuff but no, she wanted to be an empress.. She literally lost her 1st kid during this whole process and at some point of time she forgot abou that, she forgot that the Yeon dynasty basically killed her entire family. And Wang yoo lost alot and was degraded too while helping the empress. But she did not care about anything else. The emperor killed Wang yoo just so that the truth about the king's and empress's son doesn't come out. It felt pretty dumb to me but still the FL chose the emperor. He literally killed all her friends too. Well, atleast if she was choosing the emperor she could've treated him better. She just him all his life but only showed him love while he wad dying. Next my most favorite character Wang Yoo, he was such a sweetheart. He only thought about empress ki even when she just left him and married emperor. He loved her soooo much but he did not deserve her at all and the way he was killed still makes me wanna cry.. Next up Yeon Chul and his sons, obviously they were an eye sore to me. I hated those characters to the core of my heart which proves their great acting skills.
Overall the drama is full of palace politics and great twists. I know i hate most of the main characters but that is what the whole story is about. All the cunning, dumb and intelligent characters made the drama beautiful.
Over all do watch this drama. I feel like rewatching it now 🫨

Great story but some things could've been better.

Firstly the the drama was a great binge. I think it is one of the best kdramas in recent. Ive lost all my interest in kdramas because of the repetitive story lines. But this one caught my attention.
Over all the story was great. But they could've avoided the romance track. If there was no romance track at all the story could've been actually interesting and intense. Also i felt the ending was kind of open. Viewers like me might think there will be another season with such an ending.
Park Shin Hye's character was a badass character and i think somebody else might've been a better choice like Seo Yea Ji, IU, etc., Park Shin Hye was definitely not a right choice. Some viewers say that her acting has gotten better now but i think she is still the same. Finally the male leads character was really good and the actor was a perfect fit. But at times the character was paced down because of all the romance.
Overall it was a good series but they could've avoided certain things. It can be a good one time watch during the weekends.
