A show with extremely high potential suffering from the typical Korean BL conundrum
I was not prepared to like First Love, Again as much as I did. And yes, maybe it's solely because of the fact that I am a SUCKER for reincarnation and especially soulmate AU, but I promise its not just that.
This show just had so much freaking potential that despite the fact that it didn’t really fulfill it, I still love it for having said potential in the first place.
The thing that stuck out to me the most was the acting; a bit of a surprise since most lower-budget shows tend to suffer the most in this exact area. But Gun and Changha did SO well in their roles that it was their acting and chemistry solely that won me over (rather than the story... which started off well enough, certainly, but **definitely** took a hell of a dive in the last episodes).
Apart from that, the show is really aesthetically pleasing in that typical kdrama way, the OST is really solid, and the premise of the show is so unique and lovely.
The only place the show really falls apart on (for me), is the story: which felt rushed and awkward solely because of the awfully (typically) short runtime of the show.
So yes, the show ends up being quite mediocre overall, but there's definitely something inexplicably charming about it.
And it definitely makes for a good, fluffy, lighthearted watch when you don't want to be thinking too much, so do with all this information what you will ♡
