Loved the actors, but the Black Panther King plot was too chaotic for my taste

I give it a good 7/10.

First of all, I love the actors. I think the director made a good choice, not only are they good in their respective roles, but the chemistry is there too! Which I find quite rare in shows lately. Also, I'm not usually a fan of shows that go back in time (1900s). But, in this case, I thought the whole thing was very good.

However, I really didn't like the whole story with the Black Panther King or whatever his name is. A few episodes would have been enough, but this was just too much. Especially as it became quite strange. The fact that he lives in a cave in the middle of the forest, the all-black make-up, the black clothes... like? Was that really necessary? We've gone from something that can be ''realistic'' to something that doesn't make sense anymore, especially after ten or so episodes.

Personally, I think we could have omitted that bit of the story, or really diminished it, and based ourselves much more on Choenkhwan's story, with her stepmother, her half-sisters and her husband who's ''dead''. The story would have been so much better and much more realistic.

However, I'll leave it at 7/10, because it's been a long time since I've enjoyed a lakorn, and this one was more than enough for me, despite the few flaws.

One of the best show in 2022

I started to lose some interest in Korean shows since last year. I found it hard to continue and finish the episodes. However, Revenge of others brought me back into this world of Korean dramas. As we all know, Koreans are quite good at making thrillers and mystery styles with suspense and enigma, and that's totally what we could notice with this show.

The friendship between the characters was perfect, the scripts was fantastic, the actors were wonderful and the soundtrack... genius!

Of course some parts seemed to be missing a bit. For example, I thought the ending was pretty quick. I would have liked to known what happened with Jaebum. Is he in jail? If so, for how long? Is he seeing a psychologist? Do his friends still visit him? Also, what about Ji Soo Heon's cancer?

Still, even though the ending was rather quick and undeveloped, I wouldn't take away any points from this show. This drama gave me back the passion I lost towards Korean shows. I was taken back to 2015 when the shows made me dream and got me excited.

In short, I recommend everyone to watch this drama. One of the best I've seen in a long time...

So Much Potential Wasted

Hear Me: Our Summer is a fairly wholesome movie that portrays sign language beautifully. The actors did an excellent job expressing their emotions. However, the plot was rather basic and lacked that certain something that could have elevated the entire experience.

The romance, in particular, was poorly executed and, in my opinion, is one of the main reasons I didn’t enjoy the film. The male lead not only made me uncomfortable but also ruined the romantic aspect with his behaviour in the context of love. I don’t mind that he fell in love at first sight—that wasn’t the issue. The real problem lies in how he went about getting to know the female lead. Completely infatuated, he came across as almost a stalker, a simp, and it was unbearable to watch. His behaviour didn’t reflect that of a 26-year-old man but rather an inexperienced teenager who had just discovered love and had no idea how to approach women—and definitely not in a way that could be considered charming. It was very difficult to connect with the male lead, to the point where I started skipping his scenes and only focused on the parts involving the female lead and her sister.

The scenes with the female lead and her sister, on the other hand, were very well done. Of course, there’s always room for improvement, but their interactions were what kept me motivated to continue watching the movie.

That said, the acting overall was good, and the emotions conveyed through sign language were well executed. However, for a film that’s 1h49 long, I ended up skipping over an hour of it due to the lack of depth in the script. This was a movie I had been looking forward to for a long time and was very excited about, but it ultimately left me disappointed. There was so much potential, but it feels like it wasn’t properly realized, which is quite unfortunate.

A Powerful Drama of Justice & Revenge

The Judge from Hell is a solid drama blending thriller and mystery elements. The judge’s quest for vengeance was incredibly satisfying, and the overall atmosphere of the series became more compelling as the episodes progressed. However, I must admit that the moments I truly enjoyed were when the judge tracked down the criminals and delivered the justice they deserved. The acting—whether from the main or supporting cast—was fantastic. Each actor played their respective role exceptionally well, adding depth and nuance to the story.

That said, I need to address the romance subplot, which I found poorly executed. Justitia’s sudden and underdeveloped feelings for Daon felt random and lacked depth. On the other hand, the storyline focusing on Daon’s feelings for Justitia was, in my opinion, handled much better at the beginning. However, this quality dropped off in the last 2–3 episodes, where his emotions felt rushed and unconvincing.

Additionally, the romance between the two characters often felt awkward. I wasn’t entirely convinced by the chemistry between the actors, and the excessive displays of affection—like the 40 hugs in a single episode—felt unnecessary and cringeworthy. These moments could have been omitted without losing anything substantial from the story. I believe this issue partly stems from the actress, Park Shin Hye. Having watched her dramas since 2011, I think she’s a talented actress overall, but romantic chemistry has never been her strong suit.

Honestly, the romance subplot could have been left out entirely. If it’s not well-executed, why include it? Either deliver a convincing, heartfelt romance, or skip it altogether and stick to the mystery, fantasy, and thriller elements that made the drama shine.

Despite these flaws, The Judge from Hell is an excellent drama. I almost binge-watched the entire series in just two days! (Though, to be fair, I skipped about three-quarters of the last episode.) Even with my earlier criticisms, Park Shin Hye delivered a strong performance, and I was especially impressed by Kim Jae Young, who surprised me with his portrayal. He’s definitely an actor I’ll keep an eye on going forward!

A Feel-Good Thai Movie That’s Easy to Enjoy

Thai films are generally very well made, and this one is no exception. Not only is the cinematography outstanding, but the actors also delivered impressive performances. For me, it was a fun and light movie that’s easy to watch and makes time fly.

The movie offers several valuable lessons, conveyed through the stories of both Toy and Vee. It’s easy to understand their experiences, empathize with their emotions, and grasp the moral takeaways embedded in their respective journeys.

The only downside is the ending. While it’s positive, it felt a bit rushed (and short). I would have appreciated a bit more depth, particularly in exploring their relationship further.

Overall, it’s a great movie to relax and enjoy!

A good movie to pass the time

It's a good movie to pass the time. Cliché, but still good! However, I would have liked to see a few passages from Gib's life at university and the difficulties she encountered. What she liked and didn't like about her classes, whether she had any friends, etc. I'd also have liked to see a few more romantic passages between Gib and Tor, to see their relationship develop over time. In addition, a little time lapse at the end of the film, about the couple and Gib's new studies, would also have been a good addition to the movie to end it all on a high note.

Otherwise, the side story with the youngsters was also good and a good touch to the film.

Overall : 7/10
