Further Time Travel, Without Delay

Ah, Xiao Qian, I want to say you should most definitely have run away when you had the chance, but then, being potentially stranded and wandering around alone in a time a hundred years or more before Muyun was born even doesn't sound like the best possibility either. . . Although there could definitely have been a middle ground before 'throwing yourself at Hong Yan and being internally damaged'. (I wonder how badly she's hurt. . .) 'I also have someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.' Aaa, yes, excellent~ Surely Xiao Qian is not actually surprised that Muyun came - although what impeccable timing, with that throw and the intercepting catch. Also I have to be amusedly appreciative that there was no even attempt to banter or talk between them, just, sword drawn, time to fight. (How did Xiao Qian catch the sword? Plot Reasons I imagine, but really. >.> More surprising that Hong Yan didn't pull the sword away when she did want to attack Muyun again.) That ending. . . I wonder what will happen when the fans are combined . . . and in Xiao Qian's hands, of course. >.>

Modern World Shenanigans

My goodness I am rapidly becoming fond of Hong Yan - and Muyun's unease at having her around and the way they both handle it are definitely a part of that. Muyun sliding them into a car to outpace her, and Hong Yan running the long way to catch up to them? Oh gosh. And then seeing Muyun explaining, rapidfire, modern world things . . . as she sees them, anyway. . . I laughed so much, especially at how intensely serious they were at one another through it. Muyun's alarm at the TV as they watched a drama was cute (where was Hong Yan? the shower?) and setting Hong Yan up not to like the fruit Xiao Qian offered only to then peel and cut it - with magic, of course, why would she do anything else - rapidfire to offer it back to Xiao Qian was kind of adorable as well as funny.

A new challenger!

. . .well, not so much a new challenger, though she definitely came into the drama that way. . . When Xiao Qian wandered away to get more snacks I just knew something was about to happen - either she'd be attacked, or Muyun would be. I was rather pleased to see it was Muyun, and the confrontation between Muyun and Hong Yan was fantastic, their dance-like battle, Hong Yan's flashbacks - and Muyun's determination and devotion! When Xiao Qian returned I giggled the entire way through the scene with the three of them, and Muyun and Hong Yan trying to play off like they were old friends and making things up on the spot? Delightful~

Hitting the high points

This one feels choppier again - very much like the show is hitting the high points of plot and relationship development and skipping out just about anything else. I've gotten used to it for this show but it's still a little jarring. . . .did I say the battles in earlier episodes were underwhelming or sketchy? Because the one in the modern world was definitely even more so; highlighted in a silly, amusing fashion by being bookended by Xiao Qian asking Muyun to go get supper with her. There were some more heightened moments of Feelings (including poor Xiao Qian sulking a bit at the idea someone else might take Muyun's attention away, even briefly) and they continued to be adorable and lovely. And when Muyun leans in close to Xiao Qian being all intense and gorgeous? Oo yes~ Rounding out this episode with a hint of further supernatural plot! I am intrigued~

Muyun is not a modern girl.

Man, how relatable is Xiao Qian's waking up daydream vs reality? It was sweet to see them wandering around a little in the modern world through Xiao Qian's eyes (I did wonder at their wearing the clothes from the past, especially after seeing Muyun in Xiao Qian's clothes to sleep/rest, but it was lovely and they looked nice together and stood out in the street).Muyun was so very unprepared for the modern world though! (Not that this is surprising.) Her readiness to fight anything being kept in the confines of the apartment was probably for the best, but does make me curious if Xiao Qian just didn't record any of the incidents out in the wider world. . . Also, cute little tag-on at the very end with using her own powers for Xiao Qian (and convenience)~

That Escalated Quickly!

. . .yyyeah, get the feeling Xuan Yu dissipating into magical ash was not what Hong Yan expected at all. . . The glowing red eyes and sword are an exciting new escalation of her unbalanced qi spilling out everywhere, but even with that escalation wow she took Muyun down fast. And with seemingly incredible ease. Oh, Xiao Qian, I cannot be at all surprised that you threw yourself into the middle of this, but. . . Oof. And that ending of episode in the middle of the emotional (dying??? definitely could be, though I have doubts!) expression of feelings and whatnot? Yow!

Momentous Decisions

And the drama mounts with the fans maybe coming to be put to use! . . .and a rather alarming warning about just that. (I admit to some surprise - I thought Muyun was going to hand both fans to Xiao Qian, even if they were about to be combined, not keep one in her own hand. I also thought the idea was that Xiao Qian would use the fans/combined fan herself, not just hand it over to Hong Yan. . . If you're trying to stick to 'if the fans are used by one who is pure of heart', I mean. . .) Also I have to say, 'if you save her/bring her back to life many more people could die' may not have been the best tack to take with a woman who has killed . . . how many people in her quest to save her own most precious person?

Hong Yan is losing it. . .

Hooboy, I expected there to be issues arising from her - either directly or her unbalanced qi and nature in general - but that was. . . Her flickering lack of clarity between Muyun and Xuan Yu has been clearly growing and definitely a concern. All of the mess barely held in check had to spill over sometime - and it has. I was also waiting for it to be 'too long' that Muyun had spent in a time not her own; I didn't really expect both to run out at the same moment, but it shouldn't really complicate things for Muyun . . . unless it is any time not her own that causes the effect rather than being in a specific time not her own. Now I'm curious! I didn't expect to find that Hong Yan had kept Xuan Yu's body, safe and protected and preserved (I know she had a qi issue when she returned to find Xuan Yu dead, but I wonder if keeping that running, while in another time no less, is causing her problems). For a moment I thought she was just going to let Xiao Qian just wander off, but . . . 'you haven't suffered enough'? Really Hong Yan? This is the kind of person you want to be?

History of Hurts and Sympathetic Danger

I still like Hong Yan, and I feel for her, even more so as they show more of the parallels to Muyun and Xiao Qian with her and Xuan Yu - and her struggles with the others in the past. She may be trying to steal the fan to use them both together, but one can't really fault her reasons . . . and her memories of making a deal with the sect only to have them go back on it, deciding she was too violent and trying to kill her instead? And then to return only to find that Xuan Yu was already gone. . . (Granted she is dangerous and unbalanced and she may be a little crazy, but I do still feel for her.) Also her continual 'teasing' of Muyun about her being weak/not training hard is a nice new dynamic. (I note Muyun just . . . casually told XIao Qian 'now I know who she is' and what she knows, without pausing over the whole 'I told you she was an old friend' issue. I'm glad she didn't hide it but I do wonder if Xiao Qian had any . . . reaction to that.)

Drama! Danger! Mother-henning and the modern world!

While the episodes have been choppy from the beginning, this one seemed to put it on display moreso. Another sudden attack was not unexpected (ironically) and that it was escalating from last time only fits the drama - but I'm not even sure how Muyun got injured, everything seemed fine and she didn't seem to even have taken a blow before she started coughing up blood. The use of the fan to time travel having a drawback is only to be expected - though I wonder what kind of drawback, in the end! - introduced so abruptly, I imagine, to play into the drama going on with Muyun already.. . .but it does lead us to Muyun in the modern world! This will be fun I'm sure~There was certainly a promising start with it!The cat as a wild beast! 'Do you want to shower together?' (I admit to a little surprise at how very flat she kept her expression to that question.) Muyun's understandable confusion at Xiao Qian's questions . . . followed by 'I just want to flirt- I mean get to know you!'(So where is Hongyan, incidentally?

In case you missed it? Incredible smittenness.

The immediate swooning? Not one-sided. Though of course Muyun is much more dignified about it . . . outwardly, anyway. ('Why are my thoughts so scattered today?' Oh my I wonder, what with those dreamy fantasy moments. . .)The battle sequence was a little cheesy and underwhelming, but I didn't expect hardcore action scenes in this, honestly. There was more focus on Muyun protecting Xiao Qian - both from distress ('Close your eyes. Do it now!') and violence - and the hand-holding, and their respective admiration of each other, and that is about what I expected and am happy with.(. . .I do seriously wonder about Hongyan. 'Why don't you handle shifu and I'll stay here and have fun! Don't worry, I can handle it!' . . . how is she handling the modern world? Is she taking Xiao Qian's place/pretending to be her? How exactly?)

Immediate Smittenness

I expected a quick setup of the feelings between the two women, but this may actually have exceeded my expectations in how quickly they got to it.It's rather delightful actually, seeing familiar tropey moments like the almost grabbing hand going into slow motion, or slipping only to be caught in a romantic dip, between two women.

FANTASTICALLY Handwavey Setup Promises Fun

I went into this drama having watched the trailer and gotten a very brief (two sentence) description/rec from a friend; I was expecting something silly, fun, maybe not great but entertaining. And man did this first episode set up for that! The premise is introduced super quickly (4 minute episodes; they have to!) and everything is so casual and taken in stride. I was laughing in disbelief and the episode has pretty much solidified my expectations for this as an entertaining, probably messy, bit of fun.
