This series is an excellent example of how one person can have an effect on another person (good or bad). The mom and her dreams, the dad and him being the glue, the depression almost being contagious in the family and how a ray of sunshine can penitrate darkness.

"Even though you can't change the future, you can decided how to respond to it."

This is an excellent summary and I would add the same about the past, you can't change it but how you respond to the past can change at any point in time in your life.
