Best Effort

I don’t usually make a review but this requires effort.

Hands-down: Yang Yang is superb. As well as the male cast of the show. Even the spiteful and immature Cao Guang was superb.

The female cast was DISAPPOINTING truly. None had redeeming value whatsoever. Not even in looks, acting or even presence. The female ensemble was poorly chosen; I even feel like the team made budget cuts and decided to hire sub-par actresses.

I get the college-naive-first-time feel that the scriptwriter or the director was aiming for, but it was POORLY conceptualized. Nobody is that DUMB and NAIVE in college; and there are more sharp highschoolers than the female ensemble. And literally - the lead actress wasn’t even pretty. No X-factor and the director had her play a totally blank character. She faded out from the scenes and it was bothersome how annoyingly dense her character was. A conflict to the supposed “capable and smart” woman that the character is.

It was painful watching it. Yang Yang’s character and his friends were the ones that carried the whole drama. It would have been better if the direction of the drama was focused on their friendship and struggle in a start-up company. It would have been more interesting, and would’ve been better without the romance since the lead actress was dead as wood.
