good drama, terrible message
Let's be clear. I watched the drama and liked it, but I'm pretty freaked out by the amount of people giving it 10.As a drama watcher I could give it a high score, but not as a woman.
The moral to take away from this as a woman is that we better meet a brilliant man and be his shadow. No matter how brilliant you are, be content to sacrifice yourself for him and everything will be fine.
There is a particular moment, where they are given an award for a project where the FL has been the leader, but he is the one who gives the speech and gets the credit. Because what's going to make you happier than seeing your man succeed!
The same goes for Xu Li Na. The egg scene is extremely disturbing. Her husband is clearly an abuser, but she still stays with him, because it's our responsibility as women to make men better through our love.
No, thanks. I've had enough of this. The better the drama is, the more it pisses me off that it has such a toxic message.

First half 10, second half 0
I managed to finish this drama, just out of morbid curiosity to see how far they would go.
The first half of the drama is fantastic: the dynamics between the characters, scenography, ost, thematic... A little gem that left a good feeling after each episode. I really enjoyed it.
The second half was horrible: it becomes out of nowhere an extremely misogynistic CEO-poor girl drama (and it also has many script flaws). It gave the feeling of watching a pamphlet about what a young woman should desire and how she should behave. (it really makes me wonder if it was made as a propaganda to promote traditional marriage).
If you want to watch it go ahead, (he looks amazing... why deny it) but chew it a little before swallow because everything in their relationship is wrong. Kisses without consent, infantilization of the woman, wife waiting at home for the husband to return, the general idea that you have to put up with your partner shitty behaving because he loves you... just to name a few...
A pity, really. It promised a lot and ended up this way.

Great drama, but... what happens to female characters?
Hikaru no Go is certainly a great drama. Good story, good pace, great main characters, deep themes and even the special effects are well done. I enjoyed it a lot, but there is one thing they did really really badly: the treatment of female characters.Obviously, if you are looking for feminist content you should´t be in this corner of the virtual world. We all know that 95% of Asian dramas are somewhere between quite sexist and disgustingly misogynistic. By now I should be used to it, but it makes me very angry and sad that such a careful and beautiful pruduction makes such an horrible representation of women (even for a Chinese drama). The world of go is probably particularly retrograde and I guess the original manga won't help in this respect either, but still, at this point in the 21st century this kind of representation of women should not be allowed. Was it so difficult to at least include one decent female character?
Despite the extensive casting, none of the women on screen have any goals or interests of their own (beyond seducing and pleasing the man around them). They exist only to clean the practice room, make the boys' meals or console them in their suffering (and are of course very stupid). Friends, mothers, girlfriends... none of them have their own voice. I feel so sad for the poor Chinese actresses relegated to these shitty characters.
With this I don't want to stop recommending the drama. But I would like people who watch it to be aware of this huge flaw.
We deserve better.
