Curled up on my couch watching dramas

Hi and welcome!  Just a self-proclaimed couch potato here who loves watching (and re-watching) dramas.  I’m strictly a binge-watcher as I don’t have the patience or the emotional stamina to wait one whole week for a new episode to be released, or to find out how a cliffhanger will be resolved.  In my free time, you can usually find me camped out on my couch marathoning a new drama and slowly trying to work my way through my PTW list.

HOW I RATE A DRAMA:

I wish I had a magic formula to determine how to rate dramas but ultimately, my emotional investment in the story and how I feel when it all comes to an end has a lot to do with where a drama will fall on my ratings list.  I’m also a chronic re-watcher (one reason why my PTW list never gets any shorter) so re-watch value is important to me.  I prefer watching dramas that make me smile and swoon over those that make me sad, and tend to rate dramas higher if they can give me that HEA that I crave.

Things I love in dramas:Things I hate in dramas:
Tsundere male leadsHorror/Suspense/Thrillers w/ lots of blood & gore
Fantasy dramasTragedy or Terminal Illness
Romance (especially rom-coms)Dramas that utilize my pet peeve tropes *
Happy EndingsAmbiguous/Open Endings

My Pet Peeve Tropes:  Amnesia, Overbearing/Interfering Parents, Noble Idiocy

Other criteria that can also greatly increase my enjoyment of a drama and influence my final score:

  • Undeniable chemistry between the main leads:  Their interactions and affection for each other feels so real that you forget they just are acting.
  • Limited use of annoying tropes:  Self explanatory.
  • Amazing OST:  Great music is pivotal during any emotional scene, whether it be a romantic confession, a tender kiss, or one of those moments that just tears your heart out and serves it up to you on a platter.  Music matters.

MY RATING SCALE:

Dramas that I really enjoyed watching fall into the 9 to 9.5 range and go on my favorites list.  These dramas may not be perfect and may have their flaws but I love them to bits anyway. Out of these dramas, those select few that I consider to be especially good and a personal all-time favorite are bumped up to a 10.

10:Highly recommended; goes on my immediate/multiple re-watch list
9.0 to 9.5:Really good; would definitely recommend to others; going on my re-watch list
8.0 to 8.5:
Good enough to recommend to others; would probably re-watch in the future
7.0 to 7.5:
Wasn’t bad; might recommend with reservation to others but would not re-watch again
6.0 to 6.5:
Was just OK; would probably not recommend to others
5.0 to 5.5:
Finished but forgettable; do not recommend
4.5 and below:Waste of time…

WHAT’S A “10” FOR ME?

  • An instant re-watch of the show.  As soon as the final episode ends, I can’t help but immediately go right back to the start of episode one and hit play.  And watch it all the way through a second time.  This way, I can hang onto the story and it’s characters for just a little bit longer.
  • Requesting one order of Amnesia please!  Amnesia is one of my least favorite tropes ever but when a drama is so damn good, I wish I could forget I ever saw it so that I can watch drama through fresh eyes and re-live those first time feelings all over again.

MY CURRENT ALL-TIME FAVORITE DRAMAS:

The Untamed

(China)

Crash Landing on You

(South Korea)

You Who Came from the Stars

(South Korea)

Wishing you all happy drama watching!!!
