Cute and Emotional

I don't know why I got so invested in this story exactly, but maybe the actors are just that good.
I actually cried in the last few episodes, and I am not someone who will cry for anything (maybe tear up, but with this I was sobbing).

The plot is somewhat simple when it comes to romance stories, but there is the twist that the ML is actually a robot who starts to develop human emotions. I went into it thinking it would be cute and funny - which it was - but I ended up staying because even the moments with the side characters were endearing and funny.

The shining star is of course Yeo Jin Goo as the robot Zero Nine, who is designed to give love, but starts to want to receive love and feel real feelings of longing and jealousy as well. However, the development of these emotions might actually cause his own destruction as a robot is not equipped to have these. I just couldn't help but want him to be happy and loved the whole way through.

I feel like the FL gets bashed a lot on the comments about this show, because at first she is a little mean to the robot ML, but I understand her point of view - she was hurting from a previous break up of a long term relationship and she felt that love wasn't a real thing that could last. Slowly she starts to grow and warm up to the ML and it's lovely to see it happen.

As I said before, the side characters were also really interesting and I think the actors did such a good job. Even though I loved the ML so much I couldn't help but second lead syndrome for Hong Jong Hyun. Also, Hong Seo Young is really good as the villain, because she is absolutely hateful (the villain Diana is up there with Dolores Umbridge on levels of hatefulness in my opinion).

The only thing I was a little disappointed in was the ending, as I which it had been more clear either way (happy or sad or bittersweet), but it didn't take away from all the enjoyment I got from watching the show.

Charming RomCom

This drama was such a roller-coaster of emotions, in the best way possible. There are sweet endearing moments, funny moments, moments that might have made me tear up, enraging moments and overall a feeling of relating to the characters and what they are going through.

It has plenty of romantic comedy tropes, but handled in a good and realistic way, which made the drama feel fresh (despite it already being so old as of the time I have watched it). Both the ML and FL are relatable and they work together so well you can't help but root for them from the very beginning.

I have to say the format the story is told in is very anxiety inducing (there is always a scene that preludes to something at the beginning of each episode) and both the second FL and second ML are so infuriating it was hard to watch without getting angry at them. However, it doesn't take away from the overall sweetness and charm of the show.

Thought Provoking and Rich Character Development

I want to start by saying I hated the FL in the first few episodes because she was a liar, and was doing bad things for money, but slowly she begins to realize her errors and you can empathize with the things she has been through. I think her character development was done in a good pace, so it takes a few episodes for her to become likeable.

The same goes for a lot of the other main characters - there is a lot of grey lines in their morality values, and at points you are not sure which characters you should actually be rooting for.

The whole point of the show is to question what it really means to be human, and it explores how artificial intelligence could connect with humans and evolve according to the kind of humans that develop it and control it.

The romance between robot/human might seem weird if you've never been exposed to something like this, but I've seen other media that explore this topic, so it wasn't totally new. It was very mild in that sense, but it was both sweet and intense and painful (which I like for some reason). If you like slow burn romance, tragic star crossed lovers type of stories, this might be it.

Side note: No one can convince me that Ji Young Hoon and the human Nam Shim are not actually in love (the hand touching, the painful longing looks and the fact that they are each other's most important person... come on!).

Nonsensical Plot but Great Romance

On an enjoyment level, I would absolutely give this a 10/10. The chemistry between the two main characters absolutely made what otherwise would have been a total mess of a show worth watching and bingeable.

The plot and the sci-fi worldbuilding (if you can call it that) are absolutely all over the place, the main characters powers seem to only work when it is convenient for the plot and there is no real explanation as to why the ML is the only earthling she is able to touch. In a way, the sci-fi elements reminded me of the original Star Trek show: super cheesy plotlines that didn't necessarily had to be set in a sci-fi background, alpha male earthling romancing aliens because he is just that good at everything, and also the quality of the special effects (they just feel way too outdated).

The more earthen aspect of the plot feels instead like a Mexican telenovela with villainous step-mothers and ex-girlfriends trying to keep the main couple apart and also on the case of the step-mother trying to destroy the ML for money. Honestly those parts were super annoying because it was way too obvious and predictable, but luckily they don't take up too much screen time.

But let's talk about the good things. The main characters have a very solid romance with all the main tropes I enjoy: a little bit of hate to love; a little bit of fake dating; a little bit of tragic love story (literal star crossed lovers). Their chemistry is so on point that just them looking at each other is enough to give butterflies (good thing too, since censorship doesn't allow for anything more than close mouthed kisses) and it is super satisfying to watch them overcome all the obstacles to be with each other.

Overall, I would say if you like the romance tropes I mentioned, are willing to suspend disbelief and in the mood to watch something mindless and fun, this is worth your time.
