Penny for your thoughts

You know what I never understood about the drama’s I’ve watched so far especially the ones with rich parents, is that when the main character fights with their parents or run away how come they always end up with no money once their credit card gets cut off, what happened to all the money they was making working in the company . Just wondering, do their salary go to the parents or they don’t get paid at all? I mean if I’m trying to gain my independence I’m going to save as much as I can, they old enough to open a bank account, I just don’t understand
