One of the most illogical romance ever

This drama just proves that the writer has never been in a relationship or in love before.

The first season started off well with the introduction of an interesting-but-yet-realistic creation of a love alarm app along with the infusion of aesthetic visual elements and the intriguing storyline stemming from the mystery of the missing creator of the app, Duk Gu. Hwang Sun Oh and Kim JoJo were made to be the main leads in this season. Despite the interesting storyline, the puppy love was undeniably weak and unconvincing. I simply couldn’t understand why Sun Oh and Jo Jo were attracted to each other. It made Jo Jo looked like an indecisive cheater. She had a boyfriend but she liked Sun Oh. Their chemistry never made sense because she couldn’t reason out why she liked Sun Oh and it completely didn’t even make sense as to why she decided to end the relationship with Sun Oh when she actually liked him. She ended the relationship by using the shield that Duk Gu gave her exclusively to download in order to lie to Sun Oh that she never liked him. It hurt Sun Oh as he did not understand the reason why it happened that way and he never got proper closure. Perhaps that’s the essence of puppy love. Nevertheless, I shipped the two because the director wanted it that way. At the end of the first season, Duk Gu was hinted to be alive, Sun Oh having a new girlfriend he did not love and Hye Hyeong courting Jo Jo. The episode ended with Sun Oh’s new girlfriend ringing her alarm for Sun Oh while Sun Oh and Hye Hyeong ringing their alarms for JoJo; signifying the love triangle. Jo Jo’s alarm didn’t ring because of the shield that conceals her feelings which was why she later desperately wanted it to be removed and was so obsessed with the findings of missing Duk Gu.

Season 2 made the whole storyline went downhill. We expect the drama and jealousy of the second leads arising from Jo Jo being honest with Sun Oh. However, that wasn’t the case. In season 2, Jo Jo decided to give Hye Hyeong a chance by giving the relationship a try even tho she did not like him. She flinched when Hye Hyeong kissed her at the beginning but let Sun Oh kissed her in the later part. This shows how confused, indecisive, and needy Jo Jo was. She looked like a lonely and needy girl that that didn’t mind dating a guy she did not like. In this season, you are going to be confused as to who you are going to ship because Hye Hyeong became the male lead of this season with greater screen time. Sun Oh became the second lead and the screenwriter decided to make Sun Oh a fool who was drunk in his family’s situation. Perhaps the screenwriter wanted to explain that his obsession for closure with Jo Jo was due to the ill relationship between his parents. In this season, Jo Jo is desperately trying to find Duk Gu so she can have her shield removed, be honest with her own feelings, and hope to ring her future boyfriend’s alarm. I thought the reason that Jo Jo wanted to have the alarm removed because she has always wanted to reunite with Sun Oh by being true to him. Because she was always triggered whenever she bumped into Sun Oh. But no, she wanted to get it removed because of Hye Hyeong. She wanted to use it to ring Hye Hyeong’s alarm so that Hye Hyeong will know how she feels about him. The ending was evident that Jo Jo chose Hye Hyeong and Sun Oh going back to his ex-girlfriend. This storyline is basically telling viewers that as long as you make an effort to love someone who loves you and treats you right, you will love them eventually. Sounds illogical right?

I waited almost 2 years for season 2 because I was curious if Duk Gu had actually taken his life because of a rejection. It hinted that he was alive. I thought the revelation of his disappearance was going to be way more interesting in season 2. Turns out that he has been hospitalized for 4 years and his brother was the one running his love alarm app business. Duk Gu later woke up and gave Jo Jo an armour to download so she could ring Hye Hyeong’s alarm. Yea I just wasted my time on season 2.

Reminds me of youth

The title of this drama speaks for the plot. This drama is very relatable, albeit the simple romance and storyline. It reminds me of days when I was still a student as well as the social problems we faced as young adults. For the first time, the plot of a Chinese drama is related to it’s title. Most of the time the title is unrelated to the main bulk of the plot in Chinese dramas.

This 24-episodes- long drama portrays the slow built up in relationships that we all faced when we were young and inexperienced in relationships. Some young audience found it annoying that the main leads took so long to confess to each other. But that’s the reality for most awkward Asians. If we really want that person to be our partner for the rest of our life, we cannot afford rejection. Therefore, with time and confidence, we want to make sure we stand a high chance before we confess. We all are afraid of rejection and we just need time to build that probability of acceptance.

This drama addresses a few social issues we faced such as school/online bullying, self esteem and career pathway. Xiao Xiong’s low-self esteem for her tomboy look in high school reminds me of my high school days, when I had lots of acne. I was really self conscious but there was nothing I could do. I didn’t actually want people to know my acne so I deleted lots of old pictures. Thus, I felt it when xiao Xiong said she was conscious of people knowing her tomboy past. The drama then portrays the feelings that xiao Xiong had when she got bullied. In the dialogue, at the end of that episode, xiao Xiong mentioned that what she felt was what other victims felt as well. Therefore, we should all be cautious of what we say and write online. Both main leads agree that their career path will not feed them, yet they built that courage to achieve their dreams and encourage their parents to let them do what they love. As Asians we all face that problem of doing what our parents want us to do while putting aside our dreams. Tang tang’s stage fright episode teaches us that we should not be conscious of what others see of us. Just believe that you are better than those audience that despises you and bring out that confidence. If you pay attention to those dialogues at the end of each episode, you will see that the producer tries to address these social issues in a subtle manner.

One issue I had was that the female lead was not tomboy enough. She clearly looks like a female and the male lead couldn’t recognise that?!

It's really interesting to write something about lobbyist, corruption and selling of weapons to the government body because this is actually happening in the real world. A lot of car brands and aircraft companies actually manufacture weapons and they often compete to bid for the contract. Besides military supplies, there are a lot of things that the government needs which require the same bidding process. Yet in this process, there is such bribery and corruption taking place. I am surprised that the screenwriter actually know such sensitive information. This drama has portrayed an exaggerated version of reality with all the plot to kill competitors. The action scenes are really good, almost comparable to Hollywood movies. However, there were way too many plot twists (Jessical initially being portrayed as the culprit, then decided to mislead the audience that it was the president, then decided to change the culprit to the prime minister and in the end, they made Edward the mastermind.) that it actually didn't make sense any more. The plot is weak because of the multiple plot twists. If there isn't any season 2, they just spent way too many episodes filming multiple plot twists that they didn't have time for a proper ending. If you rewatch it, there are way too many plot holes.

The idea of the story is great, the action scenes and filming location justify its high budget. But sorry, the plot is very weak with way too many bullshit plot twists that didn't make any sense anymore. Nevertheless, I still highly recommend this drama if you are sick of typical Romcom Kdramas and want something new.

Illogical but hilarious Romcom

Don’t take the plot too seriously when you watch it, because it can get illogical.

1) the female lead has no idea who her sister had a planned marriage to. Even if you replace your sister in the marriage, your curiosity would have searched his picture online.

2) it took the female lead long enough to realise that the guy she was marrying to was the nice guy that has been helping her. There were literally so many clues.

3) the male lead didn’t manage to find out the existence of the other twin sister when he was doing a search on her family background.

It’s either the plot is illogical or everybody is dumb in this drama. I guess it was meant to be the latter because all the hilarious scenes centred around the silliness of all the characters. So watch it with the mindset that they want to make you laugh with the nonsensical thinking of all the characters. Because, the genre of this comedy is surrealism. Oh and I forgot... the male lead is hot!

It was horrible.

Firstly, the rom-com storyline is extremely cliche and predictable. There was no creativity in the storyline with the idea of the marriage contract as well as the rich and overbearing husband. There was barely any effort in creating a new plot.

Secondly, the production made the largest mistake in this drama. There were missing background sound effects. It felt as tho the production had no budget that they have interns in charge of the sound effect. It was a pain watching this drama with missing background sound and awkward insertion of OST into a scene. IT WAS AWKWARD. I was contemplating whether I should turn off the sound completely because the lip-synching was also terrible.

Thirdly, the cast. It is extremely important to pick the right cast for the right role, especially the cast is a rookie. The male lead did not fit the image of an overbearing rich boss. He could not portray that vibe with his walking style, actions and expression.

Unique

Plot is quite logical with few plot holes and unnecessary scenes in the later part of the story. Don’t know what happened to the actress playing the role of Cheng Yin, maybe her failure to commit till the end of the show lead to the death of Cheng Yin and Wu Yan, longing for her friend, became mentally ill with schizophrenia. Also, the other 2 friends moving to the suburb with the female lead is a bit unnecessary. Moreover, it is a bit unrealistic of the male lead to learn the Chinese characters and business related subjects within 3 years. Other than that, the plot is interesting with great chemistry and is quite detailed in depicting the life of a blind. They even made sure the hairstyles and clothes of the casts are different after 3 years, depicting adulthood.

Casts are extremely good looking and I am satisfied with the male lead’s acting, considering it’s his first time acting.

Music is really well composed, especially the 2 background musics. One that depicts cute and funny scene, the other that depicts chemistry and skin ship. However, they have so few songs that they kept repeating the same 5 songs many times within an episode that they wrongly associate the songs to the scenes towards the end.

Really draggy plot

The front episodes started well with interesting plot but the main plot of the story only comes in at a later part. 40 episodes which can be shortened within 20 episodes. Had to skip all the unnecessary scenes and fast forward the show because the plot was really draggy. ML had a prejudice for the FL after an one night stand but he didn’t judge himself for taking advantage of FL when she was drunk. They didn’t even filmed the one night stand. ML then went to jail for something he didn’t commit and he didn’t fight for his rights within the 8 months. He only fought for his rights after 8 months and same goes for the side characters. The side characters are kind of annoying, especially FL best friend being a gold digger. Also the relationship between the other 2 couples didn’t make sense. They can marry with one sided love and the female suddenly wanting to get a divorce. She brought this upon herself when she was given a choice to pick who to marry. FL rejected the male lead many times because they had a different background and the fact that ML went MIA while going on a mission but accepted him in the ending without any trigger. Good looking leads. Good acting in the front but onwards the plot made their acting mediocre. The screenwriter is simply ruining the show. You can watch it but you will find yourself skipping half the show because the 4 side characters are simply annoying.

Innovative plot but the weak and illogical storyline will leave you perplexed.

Girl from nowhere features the manifestation or appearance of a mystical divine or superhuman being, named Nanno, whose aim was to target individuals and expose the evilness and hypocrisy of human beings, given the authority to judge and punish the wrongdoers. Nanno, which means Karma in Thai, is no different from Satan; a fallen angel who has lost hope in humanity. Given that right to judge and punish wrongdoers, the immortal is a self-proclaimed righteous that finds joy in proving and justifying her pessimism for human nature. She schemes, tempts and leads her targets into committing the worst aspect of crimes she believes will eventually happen anyway. This elucidates her often misjudgement as well as the unlawful, unethical, and unjustifiable punishment of the wrongdoers. Nanno isn't the angel portrayed in the first few episodes, albeit her soft spot for the boy who was willing to sacrifice his life for her. The scriptwriter tries to create that audience interest in the introduction by utilising a narrator and dialogue to create an emotional attachment to the protagonist before revealing her unacceptable behaviour in the later episodes. Her behaviour in the later episodes is going to leave you perplexed. Is she here to actually punish the wrongdoers and bring justice? Or is she here to create chaos by adding oil to fire? Audiences that decide to give Nanno's unacceptable behaviour a benefit of the doubt will, mostly, at this point drop the series with confusion. Because you will never be able to understand the purpose of her existence until towards the end of season 2, where they introduce Yuri. Yuri's existence is going to challenge Nanno's beliefs, judgement and her ways of punishing those in the wrong, causing her to doubt herself and losing her resilience. You need to infer and accept that Nanno is not actually a nice person from the beginning before they actually reveal it towards the end. Otherwise, you are going to dislike and reject her to the point of dropping and missing out on the main point of the series.

A Chinese drama about gaming? Sounds familiar right? If you have watched Love O2O and liked it, you will like this drama as well. This drama is similar to Love O2O in terms of the strong bonding between the teammates and the female protagonist being an unbeatable gamer. Other than that, the plot is quite different. This drama is a lot more practical than the idealistic plot of Love O2O. In this drama, you see the teammates fighting and failing. In reality, everybody will face setbacks and in Love O2O, the leads will never fail. I personally like the co-orperation between lao K and smiley. Lao K disliked her in the beginning but respected and accepted her as a strong teammate in ep4. He coordinated well with smiley in most games. I really like the cats in the drama. You see the characters coming close together because of the cat. The last 3 episodes were a bit rushed out. They spent too much time on qualifying rounds that they did not have time for semi-finals. They skipped the details of the semi final competitions. The final contest was a test of nerve-wrecking ordeal. The contest wasn’t as easy.

Sweet but long winded

Sweet romance but the leads took too long to confess their feelings. This whole drama have lots of incessant scenes and I found myself having to skip through everything because the second leads are really boring. Story is mediocre but at least the romance is about authors and editors, rather than the typical overbearing boss with clumsy employee. Female lead is smart and naive at the same time. She is very successful and capable but failed to realise that male lead lied to her when she confronted about his other identity. There were so many clues and the reasoning he gave her to brush her suspicion off were not convincing enough and she believed it. It was nice to see the female lead changing the male lead from a hot tempered, weak-willed, lazy, unromantic with zero social skills to someone romantic, heart warming and supportive boyfriend. Female lead is very capable, successful and smart and is a huge pillar of support for male lead. She’s extremely bubbly, adorable and cute. When both of them were at their lowest, both of them stayed strong together and female lead slowly climbed her way up. There were no break ups at all. The dog was really cute. The second leads were boring. Literally skipped their parts out as they were predictable. This drama could have shortened to 24 episodes but they choose to have 36 episodes of unnecessary scenes.

Simple and sweet romance of 4 best friends albeit a tinge of unrealistic coincidences.

First and foremost, the storyline is already good but could be better. This drama tries to convey the message of "the power of love will make one love a person unconditionally while putting aside societal standards and norms to lowering one's standard" with the depiction of a simple love life, yet unrealistic coincidences and encounterment of the couples. Sounds like a simple heartwarming romance yet not quite realistic in terms of how the couples meet, especially when the genre of this drama is mature. The storyline revolves around the simple love lives of 4 best friends (3 females + 1 male) with contrasting personalities. Zeng li, the protagonist, is a sweet and soft librarian that has been waiting for the right person to come into her life. While facing the societal pressure of ageing and marriage, she is resolved by the belief that one should only commit in a relationship with the right person. She turns down all the blind dates arranged by her mother while in hopes for her first love to return the love but changes her choice upon meeting her orthodontist, Ai Jing Chu. Their encounterment is the most unrealistic. She first met him at the library then coincidentally became her orthodontist before seeing him again in her subordinate's lecture and at the mountain. He's both a lecturer and an orthodontist, which is impossible in reality. Wu Ying, an emergency doctor, is a realistic, tomboyish and practical person yet she can be childish and impulsive. Unlike her feminine friends, she doesn't dress up and take good care of herself while having a fond for hoodies and mobile legend. She believes in the societal standard that a female should not marry someone younger than her, let alone having a baby when her partner is still in school and cannot support the family. But her childishness and impulsiveness is the reason why she put down these standards and ended up having a short gun marriage with Liu Yu Cheng, a Chinese medicine student younger than her by 6 years. Her relationship with Liu Yi Cheng is the cutest and fastest among all. Ma Yi Yi, a social media influencer, is a lovable and lively fashionista. In contrast to Zeng Li and Wu Ying, she faces the pressure of insecurity and time and is desperately finding a partner to tie a knot with. Because of this reason, Deng Hao Ran, broke up with her in the past while maintaining the closeness of their relationship. They still love each other and are always there for each other at their toughest times. Their relationship is the funniest among all but took the longest. It would be better if the writer created more scenes with more chemistry that lead to them going back together. It felt the bridging was not there/strong enough. One thing I like about this drama is that the uniqueness of the other two couples will not make you skip the scenes. The friendship between the three females and Deng Hao Ran is the sweetest. I really enjoyed watching their interactions together. Deng Hao Ran adores Ma Yi Yi but he doesn't compromise on taking good care of his other two female friends.

Secondly, the choice of the cast was great. They are good-looking. All casts played their roles well that they put so much consideration in their acting so as to showcase the contrasting personalities of the three girls. In fact, the side characters outshine the main leads. I was more invested in the other two couples that I didn't skip the drama. Ma Yi Yi's carefree character lightens up the mood of the whole show. I love her character the most. The actress paid so much attention to her action including the way she speaks. Also, Wu Ying resembles Kiko Mizuhara. So when they zoomed into her face, It was not annoying.

Thirdly, I was in awe of the peaceful cinematography. I really like the pastel filters. They match the easy-going vibe of the storyline. I could tell where the story was heading with the filters. Also, I am in love with the cute animation of the 4 best friends in episode 1 (Deng Hao Ran carrying and dragging the three female friends out). If only they had more. I really like how they had the actors actually acted out the interaction to represent the texts messages in their group chat. They were really cute and interesting. It just gives you a reason to not skip the scenes. Also, they inserted actual footage of real couples getting interviewed to prove their point that love will just make you put aside societal norms and lower your standards.

Lastly, the choice of music was really good. The unique genre of the music completely matches the cinematography and vibe of the story.

Great acting and editing of the twin sisters

Firstly, male lead is good looking and fits the role of a mysterious guy that gives you goosebumps. He looks like Aaron Deng. Female lead is not so good looking but I like her acting. I could actually tell which twin the actress was acting as, even at the scene when the elder sister woke up from coma and got rid of the villain in the party. She clearly defined the differences between the twin sisters through her good acting (posture, behaviour and expressions). Secondly, the editing team really made the twin sisters in the same scene with almost flawless editing skills. I didn’t feel uncomfortable watching the scenes with the 2 sisters. They filmed multiple shots with different angles for the same scene and edited it smoothly. You can tell that the team actually had some parts with the sisters edited together and some parts with a replacement acting as one of the sisters. They put the parts together and they didn’t look awkward at all. You can see that the casts actually filmed multiple shots for the same scene (every scenes with 2 sisters interacting).

Thirdly, the sound team did a great job in giving the sisters different sounds but they did a bad job in the music. If I remember correctly, they didn’t even have a proper opening song with just a background music.

Last but not least, the plot is quite fast paced. But it would be better if they cut away more unnecessary scenes (the villain that tried to kill the elder sister and then went MIA and the sudden introduction of the childhood friend towards the ending) and replaced it with more sweet moments. Plot has a few illogical plot holes such as the employees not noticing that the elder sister became very different as well as the interaction between the sisters and the ML (went from no couple feel to PDA back to no couple feel). The employees didn’t feel weird about it. Also, when ML saw the recording in the vase he immediately knew why FM broke up with him.

Not bad

Amazing cast and plot with a lot of funny scenes. The plot had a bit of loophole. Lawyer No Hak Tae and Ryu Seong Dyuk have seen Kim Mina and Cho Yeon Ju before but they have failed to notice that they look extremely alike. Casts seems to have a very good team work and chemistry. Only issue about the acting is that Lee Hwa Kyum didn’t manage to look like Kang Mina acted by Lee Na Hee. It was only at the last episode that she started looking like Kang Mina. They should use voice over for Lee Hwa Kyum as they sounded very different and Lee Hwa Kyum’s built seems to be smaller than Lee Na Hee. Should have picked a pair that is similar in height to play Kang Min Ah.

Good chemistry

Firstly, the leads are good looking, especially the male lead.

Secondly, the characters of the 2 leads are loveable. You will not hate their characters. The only issue I hate is the voice used to dub the female lead’s voice. It made her voice sounded like a little girl.

Besides the cliche story line about arranged marriage, there are a few plot holes such as the male lead being a heart doctor is everywhere even in the ER and cancer department. Like what is his actual specialisation in the hospital. Also, the female lead did not recognise her fiancé despite having met him when they were young. They even went to the same school.
