I heard that this drama was one of the BIG princess dramas that would air in 2019, and read decent reviews of the drama so I decided to give it a go. I’ve only watched up to about episode 22, but I have to say I’m debating on if I should continue or not. I feel like I’m a little too invested into this drama to just drop it but there’s not much going on that’s keeping me interested other than General Fu’s back story and his pursuit of Rong Le despite her constantly shutting him out.
I’m not one to ever, really root for the second male lead or have second male lead syndrome, but I have to say, this drama is causing me MAJOR second male lead syndrome. Going into this drama, I wasn’t blown away by Prince Wu You. I was hoping his acting and the chemistry between him and Princess Rong Le would make up for the lack of spark I was feeling from him. To my disappointment, I didn’t get riled up or get that feeling of a deep love despite the claims of deeply loving each other. It wasn’t until General Fu was introduced into the story did I feel like THIS was a relationship I wanted to see develop into something more. Especially when Wu You was temporarily gone, I was excited and hoping for General Fu & Rong Le to get closer. I also think Forgetting General Fu’s bad deeds, I think he can be sympathized with the most, growing up without a family or friends. He’s right when it comes to comparing him and Wu You, everyone is more forgiving of Wu You but strict with Fu Chou.
The last thing I’ll really say is, I’m glad the female lead is ACTUALLY a badass who can fight against others. There were moments where I didn’t think she really needed to act like a damsel in distress but I give props to her for actually being a heroine. She did get annoying at times, but it was understandable why she acted the way she did after being used by everyone.
Overall, I don’t think I’ll have any lingering feelings from this drama if I continue to watch it or choose to rewatch it. The soundtrack is decent but not exactly heart-moving. General Fu’s character, along with Rong Le’s loyal friends and Prince Chen’s characters made me really enjoy what I’ve watched so far.
