A sweet, healthy and funny high school romance that gives me all the feels
• As one of the fans of the show who started watching it on the day is was released, I have to tell everyone that My School President might just be one of the best high school rom-coms of 2022. It had everything, and I just can't contain my joy and adoration towards this Bl.
•The plot feels simple and not so much unique. A school president, son of the principal and typical A grader harbours a long standing crush on the troublemaker, who leads the unsuccessful music club. He sees the desperation of the club as an opportunity to start a romantic relationship with his crush by offering help. Feels a bit familiar. But the charm of the show lies in it's use of characters and comedic elements. Gun's wild imagination as well as his jealousy (with the iconic "Shia Romeo"), the speaker mispelling Chinzilla as Cinderella, Tin's dramatic expressions, Sound initiating the medal kiss scene with Win and Thiuson being the wingman are one of the many funny elements that elevated this simple story and made it worth the wait. The incorporation of creating a music video based on a cover was cool. Also, the fact that the group did not win the music show is a surprise, consider most of the shows based around competition have their character's get a win. It's surprising but adds an element of sorrow and understanding of failure. The show successfully executed it's plot, delivering a comedic, romantic and bit melancholic vibe.
• TinGun were an adorable pair. Gemini and Fourth were relatively rookies at the time but they nailed it, both in terms of acting and chemistry. They might not have had much physical intimacy given their ages, but the cheesy pick up lines and moments they shared were more than enough to make me root for them. Their relationship was very healthy. Tin's green flag with a bit if mischievous and flirty flair. Like when he tricked Gun into almost adding the formers surname at a monastery. Or when he used the symbols of Sodium, Radium and Potassium to spell out "Cute" in Thai (Narak). Also, when Gun called Tin his friend, his dramatic crying expressions and reaction while telling it to his friend Thiuson is unforgettable. He is also supportive of Gun, which was evident when he decided to rush to Gun's music competition instead of attending some important medical school application (something like that). Gun is also pretty sassy, especially when he is jealous. He does have a bit of trouble admitting his feelings, mainly because of the club's rule of not allowing the members to date till they achieve their first win. But after coming clean, he doesn't back out. This relationship is one that I constantly root for.
•The other relationships in the story are also good. WinSound's enemies to lovers relationship was interest as well as seeing a bit of rivalry between Sound and Tin, though it got quickly dissolved. Yo and his girlfriend were also adorable, and their struggle in getting accepted by the club's mentor added another layer of tension to the story. Thiuson and Por were an unexpected one, but they were genuinely cute and I wish they had more screentime. Pat being left out is kind of sad but comedic at the same time. Gun's mother is such a gem and supportive to her son's relationship with Tin. I really appreciated how she made her son realise just of how deep Tin's love is for him. Tin's parents, especially his father were amusing. I thought his mother would come out as a lot more controlling and oppressive but that luckily didn't happen. Khajorn was for, majority of the time, a jerk but latter he watered down.
•The Ost is also my favourite, especially the cover of "Just being friendly" (originally by Tilly birds). This cover has to be my most favourite one and was on repeat for me for several weeks.
•Overall, My School President hits all the notes for me and it's on my re-watch list. I will never forget this Bl in a longtime and genuinely recommend to people who are new to the Blogging world, want something light or are looking for a musical themed high school series.
