perfect FL casting, horrible actress for a horrible role !

the writing is so good up until episode 8. episode 4 is so amazing it was so unexpected, i felt it defied every saeguk trope and for that I was hooked (killing the queen father). I also feel like the romance/romantic tensions made the stupid writing less obvious in the beginning because her revenge plot was dumb from the begining. But after he finds out her real gender the writing goes to hell so fast it made me laugh. There where so many weird homophobic comment about how the heterosexual romance needed to start but jokes on them once he found her out the romantic/sexual tension completely left the drama as well. after that all he wanted was to protect her and she wanted to hurt him. no chemistry at all between them.

episode 8 is so disappointing why did he have to find out so quick and like this too. I needed a kiss or a true/explicit confession of love before he found out. It always feel a little cowardy from the writer to put all this romantic attraction and tension but only make them act on it when its 100% sure its heterosexual ! oh the King's Affection you will always be superior for that !!! they even put that little scene with his soldier to make sure we know that he is NOT gay he just like the femboy because he is a girl hihi 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I guess I'm going to have to be satisfied with the kings confession under the rain that was really nice.
the acting at the end of ep 8 by JJS is insane tho !!! all his micro expression with his eyes blew me away.

the worst thing about the drama is by far Shin Sae Kyeong/Kang Hee Soo both respectively. All SSK knew how to do was have watery eyes and bite her lip, avoiding eye contact and acting scared. Her acting was so stiff so bad and absolutely not believable as a man. Also why did she have lipgloss on ? Now Hee Soo was horribly written, I don't think she made one good decision the whole drama. Annoying from the start and then annoying things about her just start pilling on. And then at the end she ask to go to pekin was the last straw. after all the king did for her she's like I kinda want to see my father and idc about you. just pissed me off. would've been happy with an ending where she dies 😭😭😭.

I may have watched a different ending because at no point do they explicitly say that mongwoo will stay in Joseon with the king. its a very weird open ending and I don't like that. Horrible ending where nothing happens and the creators dont know what to do. the uncle acting was great tho, made me feel bad for him. JJS the only saving grace of this mess.

So basically there was no romance, no cool fights only intellectual mind game like baduk, the whole drama rest on them but they weren't even that crazy complicated or cool which made the drama boring. To put simply the writers we're not good enough. waste of time and super disappointing.

a corny mess !

It was so bad I had to make a review. the only reason its rated this good is because everyone with taste stopped watching after the second episode and forgot about it for self preservation (also the jcw stan giving it a 10).

So how did I finish it ? ... hate. the first two episodes made me hate that assistant girlie so much I had to see her suffer. but this drama is so disappointing it didn't even gave me that. literally so corny how ONE single article comes out about her and boom she's over and done. we don't even get to see her cry like I'm pissed I really wanted to see her jump off that *redacted. anyway at least the mother (the only real b**** in this show btw) threw vinegar at her or whatever.

Every writing decision was corny. her not defending herself and being so passive was corny. her acting like a baby even though she is close to 40 was corny. yong pil never getting over after 10 years was corny. Yong Pil not respecting personal space or boundaries was corny. the second ML being a 40 yo virgin was corny and not attractive at all. the sisters were corny. the parents were corny. that one ex husband corny. like it was so cringe all the way through because everybody was so damn childish.

Why was Shin Hye Sun acting like that ? at some point I realised that she talks in baby voice 90% of the time when she is Samdalri and I lost it lol. had to skip her to not die from cringe. I hate the weird infantilisation of women in kdrama and its probably my number 1 pet peeve/ thing I hate the most. In this she is a 38 yo super successfull woman but she acts like a shy teen girl like EWWWWWW please give this grown woman a backbone please. all she did was whine and hide for 14 episodes.
She talks in baby voice and pouts and that's basically it, thats her acting in this but everyone in these comment compliments her like this was a masterclass in acting like what ??? Literally cannot stand her and will probably never watch anything with her in it ever again because of this.

random things that pissed me off too :

the oldest sister getting back/ sleeping with her ex husband

Yong Pil not giving a care about his fathers feelings

Samdal working with her ex (that cheated and tried to end her career too) at the end

the Indian actor turning out to be an arab prince that was super rich ??? like they purposely put that in to piss me off. like what was the reason ???


this was a horrible watch ! so slow ! nothing happens ! and the same thing happens over and over until the last episode !

what happened ???

obviously this needed more than 6 episodes. the story was so amazing that even with the many question left unanswered and dropped plots I considered this 10/10 when we found out who her female friend really is. Like, I'm sorry but that was too good. its so upsetting it only got 6 eps it needed 10 or 12 to get everything right. everything felt rushed and not given time to settle properly.
With the rushed and mysterious ending it feels like they were fishing for a season 2. Maybe they didn't have enough money for more than 6 eps so they tried to make the ending mysterious in hopes it would be a hit and the fans would beg for more. unfortunately for us taste havers, the kdrama audience lacks taste so were never getting that second season. I mean the Nam Joo Hyuk stans are in the reviews complaining that this is "weird" ... like duh you dummy.

anyway this was great and now I'm buying the novel to get all the answer I need.

Everyone is dumb and the writers think I'm dumb too

one thing I hate in media is when we get introduced to a character who is incredibly smart and then force him to make an incredibly stupid decision to get rid of him. that just pisses me off so bad and it happens not to one but THREE people in this drama (episode six pissed me off). this is weak writing an there is no excuses ! I could go in details but im not that passionate about this drama honestly.

Started this for dohwan but then the most horrific thing ... he is playing a grown adult acting like a child NOOOOOOOOO omg I almost *redacted* myself. I hate when it happens to female characters and its even more painful on a guy. anyway bunch of stupid guys making stupid decisions over and over again until almost everyone is dead. at some point I expected them to be more ruthless but no. AND THEN HE HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY AT THE END "IVE BECOME LIKE THEM UWU" ARE YOU DUMB ??? (lowering the score as I wrote that bcs what ???) Actually its the opposite you are so unlike them might as well be a p*ssy. the writers are spitting on me and telling me its raining. needed them to be smarter. also they gave the money to a billionaire they barely know like why are they torturing me like this.

Why did I stay ? well, once again hate made me stay. I was introduced to someone on ep 1 that I needed to see suffer. so I watched all of it and once again I was let down bcs I did not get to see him suffer.

It looked good, the acting was good. the action was very good, the punches felt so good and powerful especially after the time-skip. If they fixed the script just a little bit this would be a 10/10 which is all the more upsetting.

very good if you like imperfect realistic portrayal of people

after reading the negative critiques of this movie I understand now that its a case of kdrama delusion. they want everything and everyone to be perfect and soft and cute with nothing bad ever happening ... well this is not that kind of movie.
here the relationship and the people are realistic and flawed. every action has its consequence negative or positive. same with the inaction. nothing felt forced or like a plot device to make things move forward. the writing was excellent, smart and simple.
here the villain of the story is the timing. it seems like they barely miss each other every time but also the ML not taking its chance and regretting it. the acting and the chemistry was really good as well. the direction, cinematography and the colours were perfect. 10/10 for sure !

ps: we're the dog and monkey cgi ???I think so bas of the credits

Mama this is garbage !

the only thing this drama had going for itself was good visuals.
writing is actual garbage. super convoluted and complicated to understand who is who in who's body later in the drama.
why would you spend 11 episodes explaining what is going on and how the time traveling works (poorly i must say) just to completely disregard it at the end of the last episode ??? The writers wanted their cakes and eat it too. They wanted the ending to be super sad and dark and depressing but then last minute boom here everyone your happy ending so that you will love this show.
would've gave this a 7 if they ended the drama after the bad guy broke the cassette player. At least the ending would've been super impactful and would make up for the average writing.
no chemistry between the leads. long boring draggy episodes. plot holes everywhere.no jaw.

they put a gay couple in there for 3 minutes before killing them off. and then using Koo Yeon Jun's body and we dont know if he is still alive in his head.

also just realised the people at the end are not the people that we got to know. they're different people with different memories so why should i care if they get together.

... yeah it was bad.

1 star because the ending just pissed me off and made me waste my time.
That man does not have any kind of jaw definition stop lighting him from the bottom that man need some overhead lighting.
