would’ve been nice to have more consistency..
so I don’t normally review but after finishing this I felt compelled!! I have enjoyed the previous installments over the years but this however fell very flat for me.my biggest issue being the plot. Time Travel has been done numerous times and has never fully be able to be written correctly and this was no exception .
He Bo traveling 22 years into the future to meet Hai Yi would’ve made for a more compelling story had the writer not decided to randomly throw in the body swapping element only for every one and I mean everyone to act like it didn’t exist. in reality wouldn’t He Bo be trying to figure out what happened to his body?? He traveled the same timeline there was no mention of this being a parallel universe yet somehow they just decided to treat it as one? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.
the other downside for me was the lackluster acting for most of the series, if it wasn’t over the top, it was dry and I could chalk that up to poor screenwriting but damn not even the crying scenes were acted well. however the second couple was a pleasant refresher here. their storyline was direct & easy to follow (probably didn’t need to wait 20 episodes for Wynn to find out the truth but oh well) & I for the most part enjoyed every-time they shared the screen.
all in all it was just okay. I’ll probably be haunted for the rest of my life trying to figure out who the hell Johnny Dai is & why He Bo took over his body because SPOILER, they never tell us but that’s just the price you pay when you go into a series with expectations.
p.s if you want a good time travel story, I’d suggest the warp effect, while it’s not completely a BL it does have a BL second couple & shocker the time travel element is actually explained & used correctly. quite the palette cleanser if I’d say so myself.
