r/kdrama 2024 Challenge List
-
1. Military Prosecutor Doberman
Korean Drama - 2022, 16 episodes
#1 Shared Filming Location with The Heirs (State Tower Namsan)
Fun ride with hilarious moments, an especially heartwrenching case of mass schooting, great character development for Nh Tae Nam, but also some very frustrating moments as, though they planned their revenge for years, it all depended more on dumb luck.
-
2. A Killer Paradox
Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes
#2 Tropes (Driver after Drinking) [Ep. 5]
The directing, editing and scene transitions were great. It was not the most unique story, but it was entertaining with interesting characters and good acting. In contrast to others, I think the second half is stronger as the actual villain is the best character and the themes really hit.
-
3. Connection
Korean Drama - 2024, 14 episodes
#3 Common Scenes (Character using the Subway)
Fantastic acting by everyone, complex characters, smart and tightly written, great pacing. The plot was great to follow with the slow unraveling of the mysteries in past and present, as well as the unraveling of the characters and their relationships.
-
4. The Tyrant
Korean Drama - 2024, 4 episodes
#6 People in Drama Poster: 4
Fantastic action and great acting, but the overall plot is kinda bland. Also, the lighting was bad and many scenes almost too dark.
-
5. Ancestral
Korean Drama - 2024, 6 episodes
#5 Korean Culture Highlight (Shaman)
It had great production, good acting, looked great and was very atmospheric. Overall I enjoyed it, though the last episode was surprisingly boring.
-
6. The Killer's Shopping Mall
Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes
#7 Started Airing in Birth Month (January)
Fun thriller with amazing action. Lee Dong Wook is fantastic, but the others are great support. The villains were great and often fun to watch. Jian's development overall was nice to watch.
-
7. The 8 Show
Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes
#10 A Game is Played
Good, but flawed. The themes and meta commentaries (group dynamics, society, entertainment, politics) are great. The behaviour of some of the characters is intentionally anger inducing, and it really succeeds with that. Towards the end it was in parts a bit dragging, and while the violence in the last 2 episodes fit the themes, it was a bit much.
-
8. Miss Night and Day
Korean Drama - 2024, 16 episodes
#15 Childhood Flashback Scenes
Fun but also very frustrating. The FL is so frustrating to watch because she just doesn't talk and behaves in stupid ways only to drag out the plot, and it's ridiculous that the ML and collegue don't even have suspicions. But Mr. Joo is the MVP.
-
9. Love Supremacy Zone
Korean Drama - 2024, 8 episodes
#16 LGBT+ Character
Cute couple with good chemistry with an interesting setting with the game play and a good twist at the end, but the 2nd half was messily written and dragged quite a bit. The side characters were really underutilized.
-
10. Once Upon a Boyhood
Korean Drama - 2023, 10 episodes
#21 Set in Rural Location
Love the 80s setting and the resulting colourful production. The OST is fun, the acting great. The action is good as well. Overall very good and fun, but doesn't always hit my sense of humour.
-
11. The Whirlwind
Korean Drama - 2024, 12 episodes
#23 Government Worker
A great political drama, great complex characters, the twists were never stopping in this Xanatos Speed Chess, the production and cinematography was fantastic and movie-level. The acting by the leads was a masterclass. Also: SOL KYUNG GU!
-
12. The Auditors
Korean Drama - 2024, 12 episodes
#24 Meal with 3+ Banchan (Ep. 5/12)
Good writing, interesting auditing cases although the season-long case was very predictable. But the ML and his frenemy were fun characters and had a great dynamic.
-
13. Mad Dog
Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes
#25 A Characters Wears a Long Wool Coat (the one with the birds [Ep. 15] is especially great, but there are many overall)
Rewatch. Very fun story, with a great cast. The changing relationship between the MLs, as well as their past relationship to their lost ones are both heartwrenching and heartwarming.
-
14. Doctor Prisoner
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
#30 Episode with 10%+ Viewership
Rewatch. One of the best revenge dramas. An incredible Nam Min Koong, charming bad guys, fantastic cat-and-mouse game with multiple uno-reverse cards.
-
15. The Goryeo-Khitan War
Korean Drama - 2023, 32 episodes
#33 Mid-Long Form Drama
-
16. Le Jeu De La Mort
Korean Drama - 2023, 4 episodes
#36 Truck of Doom
I'm a bit torn. On one hand it was a very good show with great acting, good production and an entertaining plot, on the other hand I despise how they depict suicide as a sin deserving torture, selfishfish and shameful. IMO it even lowered the overall themes.
