Korean Dramas That Should Get Another Adaption

Here are some Korean dramas that I personally feel would do well with another adaptation or even different dramas/plotlines but with the same pairings. While most have done well the first time, I just feel that these dramas would bring back some of the old Korean drama tropes that everyone liked when compared to the types of dramas that air today.

  • Goong

    1. Goong

    Korean Drama - 2006, 24 episodes

    8.5

Although the original adaption is a great one I feel that a modern one would be just as successful provided the proper casting. There is a rumoured readaptation in the works ! I have heard that many want Hwang In Yeop (Han Seo Jun in True Beauty) to be cast as Lee Shin. While I feel that he would do great as Lee Shin I personally want Lee Jae Wook and Kim Hye Yoon (Baek Gyung and Eun Dan Oh of Extraordinary You) to be cast as the main leads as they practically played similar (personality-wise) roles in Extraordinary You.

  • The Bride of Habaek

    2. The Bride of Habaek

    Korean Drama - 2017, 16 episodes

I understand that this adaption of the original Manhwa was meant to be focused in the modern era hence the name "Bride of Habaek 2017", however, this was the sole reason that led me to drop this in the first place (having watched episode 1 as well). As a fan of the Manhwa, this was a letdown despite the great casting. When I initially heard of this being adapted into a drama I was so excited to see the costumes and to be divulged into another universe like the Manhwa. As this was adapted based on modern times, I felt that alone, made the story lose its sparkle and originality.

  • Shining Inheritance

    3. Shining Inheritance

    Korean Drama - 2009, 28 episodes

When I first started watching Korean dramas around 2014, this drama in particular, was rated to be one of the highest (MyDramaList) despite being five years old already! While the plot of this drama may be nothing new compared to current dramas, I feel that a readaptation may bring viewers back to a sense of nostalgia with its story.

  • Boys Over Flowers

    4. Boys Over Flowers

    Korean Drama - 2009, 25 episodes

    7.5

(Honorable Mention) The K-drama that everyone knows about. In the original adaption, viewers get to focus on more than just the main couple; which is the coupling of Kim Bum and Kim So Eun (So Yi Jung and Chu Ga Eul in the drama). I found myself more intrigued with this couple than the main one. Although the original adaption was overall fine, I feel that if a readaptation were to be made, the casting would spark a large audience (especially with idols being cast) including myself! While there may not be a Korean readaptation anytime soon, a Thai adaption is currently being made!

  • Playful Kiss

    5. Playful Kiss

    Korean Drama - 2010, 16 episodes

    7.5

(Honorable Mention) Despite this story alone having dozens of adaptions being an original manga (Itazura na Kiss), I find myself intrigued with all adaptations. I had high hopes as this was directed by the same staff as Goong. While all adaptations of Itazura na Kiss are generally good, this one fell short in terms of chemistry and depicting the whole storyline resorting to YouTube shorts to finish the drama off. I have seen most adaptions of this story but this couple's chemistry and Kim Hyun Joong's Baek Seung Jo (Irie Naoki) just doesn't cut it for me when compared to the others.
